They say pets and their owners often look alike.

And while that used to be true for Anne Hathaway and Esmeralda, her new hairdo has changed that all.

The actress was spotted walking her dog in Brooklyn, New York City on Wednesday, gracing a lush green park.

While the sight was a regular one to see, the 30-year-old stood out this time as she displayed the platinum blonde tresses she debuted at the Met Ball on Monday.

While Anne’s pixie crop and her chocolate Labrador’s coat usually almost match in hue, there was now a huge contrast.

The screen star wore a silver headband over her bright strands and donned a grey turtleneck jumper with black horizontal stripes across it.

She teamed the pieces with rolled up blue jeans, a camel colour coat and dark sunglasses for the outing.

Anne – who is married to actor and jewellery designer Adam Schulman - smiled as her canine got some exercise in.

Many speculated that Anne and Adam were planning to start a family, but it's less likely as the former brunette will soon start work on Christoper Nolan's physics-loaded film Interstellar.

The sci-fi epic, due out November of next year, also stars Jessica Chastain and Matthew McConaughey.

Anne will also lend her voice for next April's animated sequel, Rio 2.

But she'll next be seen as 'the movie star' in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, Don Jon.

The comedy, coming out October 18, also features Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, and Tony Danza.
