High and mighty: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin in trouble with neighbours with over their 'too high' gate

Some critics may have accused Gwyneth Paltrow in the past of acting 'high and mighty'.

But this time, it's her neighbours who are using the term to describe the actress's gate to her Los Angeles home.

Locals near the Oscar winner's $10.45million Brentwood home claim the entrance gates are three feet higher than regulations allow.

Gwyneth, 40, and husband Chris Martin, 36, erected the 9 foot black gate outside their home after buying it last year.

However, the legal limit for gates is 6 feet high, with neighbours complaining it is an eyesore.

One anonymous neighbour has filed a complaint with the Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety.

The department confirmed to TMZ.com they were investigating and the couple have 45 days to fix any violations.

If they fail to do so, they could face over $900 in fines - which wouldn't be much to the millionaire pair.

Other celebrity residents, including Harrison Ford and Oliver Stone, have managed to keep gates within the required height restrictions.

The couple, who will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in December, bought the Windsor Smith-designed house last year.

The six bedroom, eight bathroom abode is laid out in a one-storey Veranda style.

The pair also have homes in Belsize Park, North London - where they spent most of the year - and New York City.

MailOnline have contacted Gwyneth's rep for comment.

I doubt whether those gates really have much impact on anyone. There are those that will always complain simply because they can!!

For a country that prides itself on its freedoms, people seem terribly nosy and intrusive about other people's privacy.- Duchess ofMuanenguba, London, United Kingdom, 9/5/2013 10:01 You think Brentwood represents the whole country of America? lol. It is not even a state or a city. It's a snooty, liberal *neighborhood* and, yes, they do love making rules and bossing people around. Hardly representative of the average American neighborhood.

What does she need a gate for? She went from being private to the point of paranoid to not shutting up about her private life. I think she'd be out front with organic cookies for the paps the way she's been acting lately.
