Last month it was reported that Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman had called off their separation to try and salvage their marriage.

But on Monday night the pint-sized actor was spotted leaving a sushi restaurant in Bel Air, LA arm-in-arm with British director Thea Sharrock.

The pair were spied leaving the eatery and the 68-year-old actor was holding onto Thea's arm.

The Cloud Nine director, who was dressed in a green jumper and black jeans, dwarfed the Matilda star, who wore a grape shirt and black trousers.

A spokesperson for the actor told MailOnline: 'They are not romantically involved.'

The meal comes a month after Danny and wife Rhea called off their separation to try and work on their marriage.

The couple, who wed in 1982, announced they had split last October, but in March it was reported the pair were giving their union another go and a source told People magazine: 'They love each other. Always have and always will.'

Danny previously revealed he is still 'really close' to the actress and was hoping to get back together.

Asked about life as a single man, he said: 'It's not something you adjust to. Rhea and I are really close. Actually, still together, just separate, but together.'

I don't see arm in arm; I see someone wanting a story. So what, a coworker a daughter's age goes to dinner during filming. No big deal.

Good grief DM, that's a bit desperate! Can't a man and a woman have dinner together without you implying it's more than it obviously is?
