How do those samey, $60+ per game, unfun shooters keep getting press and people aren’t nearly as snippy about them in the comments?

Sure, a lot of F2P games don’t have the best of reputations, but you have to keep in mind that when you make a comment like this, you’re also making a value judgment on the kind of people who play them. Whether you realise it or not, you’re suggesting that no one smart enough could possibly show any interest in playing these kinds of games. That’s pretty unfair!

Games are for everyone, and there are different kinds of games for different people. My hope is that Polygon will grow to be the kind of site that doesn’t make value judgments on entire genres of games in its reporting. I would hope that our growing readership can get behind that. :-)
