Shakira says she looked like a Shar Pei dog after giving birth... as she opens up about fears of losing sex appeal

She described her post-baby body as looking 'decent' earlier this week.

But in a new interview with TV host Ellen DeGeneres, Shakira was less than flattering when she recalled her appearance after delivering her son Milan.

The 36-year-old Hips Don't Lie songstress drew comparisons between herself and a Shar Pei dog, as she opened up about her anxiety about losing her sex appeal.

The singer compared herself to looking like a Shar Pei dog after giving birth

Shakira welcomed her first child with soccer star Gerard Pique in January, and she admits she had fears she would lose her erotic appeal due to the after-effects of pregnancy.

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she said: 'Looking at your new image in the mirror ... I looked like a Shar Pei (dog) when I first delivered.

'I was like, "Oh my God. Am I ever going to be sexy again? Is my man ever going to feel attracted to me again the way he used to be?"'

She then quipped: 'He's so good looking. He better be attracted to me because he is something.'

As well as her own body, the Colombian beauty - who recently replaced Christina Aguilera as one of the coaches on The Voice USA - was surprised by the initial appearance of her baby son and was shocked by just how traumatic labour is.

Shakira joked: 'Delivering a baby is not as idyllic as people make it seem. Don't expect that he is going to be rosy cheeks, cherub when he is born. Actually, when I saw mine, I was like, "Oh my God. He is purple and wrinkled. What is this?"'

A womans body after birth is something to be proud of, shame that concerns about a flabby belly and sex appeal so soon after birth can be a real issue for some women like Shakira. Just enjoy the little baby, eat healthy and give your body time to heal!

Lovely Shakira. Modest and talented and gives loads of her own money to charity for disadvantaged kids without crowing about it.

I find it funny that she was trying to be so deep and meaningful prior to the birth. Now, post birth, just shallow stupid and vain comments. But being "deep and meaningful" does not exclude having a fun side, or the ability to make jokes about herself, or not taking things too seriously. And what she said was true.

I love Shakira. She does sound like a goat while singing but is an amazing anthropologist. Has done an awful lot for disadvantaged kids in her native Colombia. Watched a documentary about her on a flight to Australia and she's a surprisingly insightful, deep and caring human being. Regardless of her goatiness, I LOVE many of her songs
