Jenna Bush Hager marked her first Mother's Day yesterday by tweeting a tender snap of her mother feeding her newborn daughter Mila.

The former First Lady, 66, looks every inch the doting grandma in the photo, gazing at the drowsy one-month-old as she finishes her bottle.

In her Twitter post, the Today show correspondent, 31 wrote: 'Now I get it! Happy Mother's day to all of those who make us better.'

It certainly seems that Mrs Bush Hager is relishing her new role as a mother.

Since welcoming Margaret Laura 'Mila' Hager in April, she has posted regular photos, and admits on her blog, The Novo Project, she can't stop staring at her daughter's hands.

She wrote: 'I’ve spent the last several days staring at her little, precious hands, resting with her tiny body on top of me and, loving more than I thought was possible.'

Just two weeks ago, Mrs Bush Hager shared a snap of Mila sleeping in her stroller during a walk with mother Laura.

She tweeted: 'Morning walk on a beautiful Spring day with my darling Spring chicken! Life is good.'

And just the night before, she posted a photo of Mila clutching the fingers of new father Henry Hager, with the caption: 'The sweetest hands.'

Not only is Mrs Bush Hager seemingly taking to motherhood like a pro, she also appears to be close to regaining her pre-baby figure already.

Just two weeks ago, she looked sensational as she appeared with her mother, grandmother and sister in Dallas, Texas, at the dedication of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

Wearing a bright red dress, there was not a sign of the 'mummy tummy' that most new mothers might be suffering from so soon after giving birth.

A glossy blow-dry and flawless make-up added polish, and ensured that she more than held her own alongside her camera-ready relatives on the Today show - the first time the three generations have been interviewed together.

Viewers were quick to praise the new mom, taking to Twitter to comment on how well she looks.

One user wrote: 'Love this! Classy group of ladies..& Jenna looks FAB after just having a baby!! Congrats to the Bush fam! [sic]'

The newest member of the Bush family was not present though. Barbara Bush Senior told Matt Lauer: 'We have a fourth generation - [Jenna] just didn't bring her!'

Explaining her decision to leave Mila in New York, Mrs Hager said: 'We left the little babe, just because this happens once, and we would only leave the babe for my Popsicle . . . But of course we love her, she's so darling and I can't wait till she meets her great grandmother.'

Mr Lauer also interviewed Mrs Bush Hager's former President father, George W Bush, asking him how it felt to be a grandfather for the first time.

'It's awesome, I mean, just awesome, and such a joy,' he replied. 'It's really the beginning of a new chapter in our lives to be grandparents.'

Besotted: 'I've learned that you can love somebody in a totally different way,' Jenna said

In her first interview after the birth on the Today show, Mrs Hager revealed that she was at her baby shower when her water broke three weeks early, and twin sister Barbara told how she was present at the time.

'I was with Jenna when Mila decided to arrive early,' she said. 'Which was very fun and funny and sort of traumatizing . . . but she is the sweetest  and I'm very excited.'

Speaking by phone interview on Monday, Mrs Bush Hager told her co-anchors that it came as a complete shock.

'I was having a baby shower that day, and I felt the baby move and everybody was staring at me cause it was one of those baby showers where you open gifts,' she recalled.

'I kind of started sweating, which is a normal thing. but then all of a sudden in front of all of my friends, my water broke.'

It would seem that the 31-year-old had two baby showers, one that took place before she went on maternity leave that featured on the Today Show and in People magazine, and a second private party after she stopped work, during which her water broke.

The daughter of former President George W Bush says that she and her husband Henry are 'as happy as can be' despite the fact that their new daughter's arrival has turned their home upside-down.

'I don't even really like the color pink and there's pink all over my apartment,' she admitted. 'I like things to be really neat and there's bottles and things all over.'

I didn't agree with most of Bush policies. But I do like him as a person and also his family!

Love the Bushes and wish they were more public. I want to see more of George with Mila. You can just tell they love their family so much. She's a lucky baby, despite the fact that Jenna deprived her child of her rightful title of "Texan" by giving birth in NYC!

I met Laura And GWB when he was governor of TX. They are true and class, very kind and real. You can say what you want about his presidency, most of which was full of the left's fabrications and lies. But they are good people. No smoke and mirrors like what is going on now in our Whitehouse.

At the end of the first Bush campaign I had the awesome honor to actually meet and speak with George Bush and at a later date attend a luncheon with Laura Bush. The Bush's are millionaires yet, after his speech, we found him having coffee dressed in everyday jeans, scuffed boots and with his shirt sleeves rolled up - no pretentiousness whatsoever. As for Laura, she came across as the sweetest, most caring, common person with a genuine interest in our concerns as we talked with her. We noticed the little things about her - no big jewelry just a plain gold wedding band, off the rack at Penny's clothing and carrying a purse that had to be an old favorite that showed a lot of wear and tear. Bush bashing may be in vogue now but I think years from now that History will treat this family, including his parents, very kindly and with honor. So glad to see them finally become the grandparents they waited so long to be.....

How the leftists and the sycophant media have tried to take them down as with everything good.

I can't stand the Bush's, but all that and politics aside, this is a lovely story and the pictures are very sweet. Adorable baby and happy grandparents.

What a difference between current and former First Ladies. The White "Hollywood" House has been a joke for almost 8 years. Mrs. Bush dresses and acts with such class and poise. Always got her job done behind the scenes compared to this current attention seeker.

This little one is set for life. Do you see that look of love on Laura's face? Fantastic. Grandma's are awsome. I know that mine was.
