Man about town! Jeremy Piven embraces mystery brunette in Notting Hill as he takes a break from filming Mr Selfridge

Jeremy Piven plays quite the man about town on ITV period drama Mr Selfridge.

And the 47-year-old Illinois boy was looking every bit the dapper gentleman as he escorted a mystery woman through the streets of London on what appeared to be a date, on Sunday.

The actor was in the famed city shooting the second season of his episodic about the unofficial Earl of Oxford Street.

Sporting an impressive waxed moustache - and the beginnings of a bushy set of mutton chops - the Entourage star enjoyed the company of his female companion.

Hooking his right arm around the curvy brunette he gazed meaningfully into her almond-shaped eyes.

The olive-skinned beauty seemed to be playing coy as she quickly broke the actor's penetrating glance before re-embracing him in a passionate hug.

Piven's facial scruff was for his role as title character of the British television drama Mr Selfridge - chronicling the rise and fall of nineteenth century entrepreneur Harry Selfridge.

But the rest of the Malibu-based actor's appearance was entirely of his own choosing.

Donning a Newsboy cap the Emmy winning television star looked smart in a grey scarf and black leather jacket.

Completing his hipster getup were stressed denim trousers with a large buckled leather belt and brown Oxfords as he toted a canvas gym bag.

The mystery woman was equally stylish in tasselled ankle boots, sheer tights, and an asymmetrical blue-grey skirt.

Topping her ensemble was a fur-lined leather vest as she carried a leather purse.

Meanwhile, the first instalment of Mr Selfridge aired in January and was ITV's biggest new drama for almost two years, pulling in up to 9.5 million viewers.

New episodes of Mr Selfridge will transmit on ITV in 2014 to coincide with the centenary of the First World War.

This Piven guy came into Selfridges recently when my lady was working there and said he was entitled to a 30% discount off a single bottle of perfume. When she told him I'm sorry but we can't give you a discount he actually came out with ''Don't you know who I am''. What a clown. True story.

I generally love all Masterpiece Classic has to offer, but this one I've given a miss since the first episode. Piven tries too hard when he's on screen, and it's ruined the show. Lavish period sets, costumes, other fine acting is all subsumed by his mugging and overacting. He ruined what could have been a really interesting series for me.

The current TV Series takes place in 1909, and I remember researching his private life under Harry Gordon Selfridge. Selfridge*s wife Rose died in the influenza pandemic of 1918; his mother died in 1924. Selfridge did not do well after this, and squandered his money, had some affairs, sold his business... During the years of the Great Depression, Selfridge watched his fortune rapidly decline and then disappear¿a situation not helped by his continuous free-spending ways. So then, when I watch the TV program, I keep thinking that Mrs. Selfridge (his wife, Rose) in real life died in 1918, and her days/years are numbered! Worth while researching online!
