PLEASE READ poll: The ever changing base of RotMG and Clans

Ok i know full well that newbies do not really mix all that well together with the maxed veterans in RotMG. For the past 5 weeks, there has been a MASSIVE influx of newbies into the realm, and even with new servers and more realms, not a lot of people are happy on either end.

What i mean is more people means more competition. I've noticed that I have been really frustrated with my profit of (def) pots lately. not only has the % drop of def pots lowered, but also it is harder to find the def pots with 20+ ppl in the godlands, usually half of them under lvl 10.

What used to be a relatively small community of dedicated players began to be a chaotically overpopulated game where even some veterans are considering to quit because of the negative effects of the game's popularity. More and more BEGinners are begging, and even I am a little ticked off when the same guy requests (or demands) i should give a t8 weapon,armor because I am the guy to go to. A lot of people accuse me of being a hoarder of goods but lately, I have given over 10 mule's worth of free stuff and I feel that being charitable (ex giving stat pots for free to select few) without some form of group honor is bad for my in game bank lol.

The previous base that RotMG stood on was these three principles (copied from Wiivan's post earlier): "We will help each, give each other items, and kill things with each other."

Now, it just seems to me that other than the elite maxed players who always band together out of comfort and habit, many players feel like they are off to fend for themselves on possessions (my concern is mostly pots nowadays lol). I think this is why some of the new players are jerk-asses, ninjas, and/or scammers (albeit bad ones).

I feel like Wiivan raised a reoccurring issue that must be answered is this: how do we maintain the integrity of the old base while dealing with such a growing population? His answer to the problem was to make a clan so that loyalty is a critical factor in not just benefiting yourself but for others too. For me, I find it hard to recover after dying on a semi maxed class, and I feel the need to make some type of group so that we can help eachother out.

what is your thoughts on this topic? Responses are appreciated Smiling

Imo, clans will only turn what should be a population-wide sense of togetherness into a sense of togetherness among clans, recreating the growing competition problem in a gang warfare kind of way. Clans are not the answer in the big picture, but then again, I don't know what the answer is.

First off, I'd like to say that all these noobs, scammers, and ninjas, need to earn the respect of us veterans. This means no begging. Second, clans dont really work in games like this, just because ofthe way it flows and the way its structured. Third, yes we may give each other things out of "comfort and habit," and I don't know about everyone else, but I quite often drop a few decent items and stat pots in nexus. Also, im sure a good amount of us(including me), will glady give you something for free if it's not super rare, really expensive, and you're not annoying as fuck. cough cough POKEMON cough cough

Pro tip:
1. Don't use words like:
Pls
Plz
Plox
Pl0x

2.Use correct grammar/spelling so you don't sound 9(even though you probably are)

PS. Everyone who hates noobs,I would suggest downloading BMJ's Quick Speech, now with anti noob detection!

Eh..

Im not sure if the people are new, but i have been hanging out with non-maxed people a lot lately and we seem to share stuff often enough Sticking out tongue its because the new people are small children(under 12) and thus have no concept of how to blend with a community and also how to share(blame the parents!!!) atleast thats what im going to say why the community is closing ranks Sticking out tongue
But today i ran 3-4 snake pits and was getting decent t9 and t10 gear and was hunting people down to give it to XD

So the solution: Shun them all!! Sticking out tongue

ugh

I have been playing the game pretty much since release date, but ive always soloed. I don't have a circle, neither do i think im in anyones circle. i do wish i had an inner circle. (bah)

but these people have to earn trust. unfortunately, the way people play these days, it gets harder and harder. while trading my take out that element, inner circle of friends on here seem generally hard to come by.

honestly, i dont think many people can play honestly enough to be trusted these days. i cant play for more than ten minutes without hearing ballyhoo about someone scamming or ninjaing loot. or not being nice enough to return loot. which does have a lot to do with trust. feezy and i learned the hard way who can and cant be trusted when grave robbing happens

@johnnychange

I don't think there will be class warfare b/c there are no organized clans that i am aware of.
also, the sense of togetherness all but disappeared in my opinion: everyone is grabbing the stat pot the poor priest is trying to get without dying lol

@ Exorcist

i really dont have a circle too. just people that i hang out most of the time to talk to in downtime. But when my semi maxed class character dies, i hope that there is a group net that can support my fall...

About Clans

I was thinking about starting a dedicated group of players that would have organized times/dates where we could go around an teach the new players how to do certain dungeons, where to lvl up, help people lvl up, pretty much anything you will eventually learn on your own. just in a much faster pace so the community as a whole will benefit faster. in my opinion this is what clans should be, not country club kind of areas that shun all but their own. A little friendly competition of "who can gain the most group lvls" between clans would be cool to see.

The problem with something like that is
1. Finding enough time to dedicate to organizing it all the time.
2. Getting the player base that is willing to donate their time
3. Finding new people that dont think its a scam, and are willing to participate.

Also, if anyone wants to help me with this "Aid the Newbies" project, then PM me here. I wouldnt try contacting me in-game though Sticking out tongue

add on

teach them about how to build trust so they can go on to bigger and better things, like organized wc runs

@ Boom

Weren't you suggesting that user-created clans would solve the competition probem? And even if you're only referring to Wiivan's clan idea, the creation of one clan wil inevitably act as an incentive for other players to start their own clans, adding to the competitive nature of the game.

Ultmately, I think the problem lies in the lack of a true PvP system, which we know will remain unsolved. I only see it getting worse as the community grows, unfortunately. A larger user-base comes at a price, that being a larger population of... well, douchebags.

@johnnychange

In fact what exactly are those possible kinds of "clan competition" you've mentioned? And what's the problem if there're really competitions between the clans?

Also... I feel like this game is always designed as a PvE one... Not to mention the technical problem that the current game structure can't support PvP at all...

When the South Dippers are in disorder, the North Dippers appears...

@GATO

Essentially the same as individual competition; ie. Clan-based grinding. Groups from different clans will be holding down areas of godlands farming pots for clan inventory, etc. If there is an opportunity for competition, it will be found.

@Excorsist

Playing since the release date? You only been a member on the forums for 2 weeks.

yup

i decided to get active on the forums after i heard kable talking about the various posts and whatnot

not to mention the fact time on forums does not reflect time on game

Forums

i really wish people would sign up on the forums, when they sign up on the games. It would make deciding who's legit and who isnt much easier(not saying you arent, as you most likely are Sticking out tongue ) And it would also make getting decent amount of reactions from people, instead of the same 15-20 talking for the (thousands?) of people that play.

forcing people to sign up on forums still doesnt meant hey have to post

Guild of Sane Mortals was probably the largest attempt at something like a clan. (It petered out.) I'll support co-operation and generosity. (Some will say you don't need guilds to do that, or even that guilds could diminish co-op and generosity overall.) I was deeply involved in high-end raiding guilds in WoW and know a lot about the pros and cons of such organization.

(also, the history and concept of organized wine cellar runs are something to consider)

@everybody: Hey, so it sounds like a guild/clan would mostly be an insurance company. Has a bonified insurance co. been tried before in RotMG? (All I found was an idea thread, but that was more asking for a dev-side/built-in insurance feature. I'm talking more of a player-operated entity. It'd pretty much be organized generosity, where maybe you'd pay into some shared pool of pots and equipment only accessible upon death of your fully, or partially, maxed character.)

pots

IF an insurance company is feasible, it would be open to so much trickery and everything.

first off, whose to say someone cant put something in, fake death, then get more items in return. proof of death would be needed

second, no pots. the pot thing... i could see that being utterly disastrous.

all in all, too many people are too greedy for this insurance thing to work right.

Different realms?

Different realms for specified lvl caps and/or clans?

Let's say that you have the main realms (Djinn, Medusa, ...) which everyone can access but there's also realms with restrictions.
E.g. a realm only accessible when you have a clangroup of more than 10 people. Or a realm that you can only enter when you are a certain level.
This idea might not be so great for some people, but i think it would be more challenging and makes it even more interesting and thrilling to get to level 20, only to access that restricted realm. Smiling

@Kitsune

Yes, that would definately improve a lot of things. Keeps the integrity of old players and brings new players closer to the veteran players this way.

~

@Belgico: I thought the idea of realm entry restrictions was interesting. One difficulty with a lvl restriction is that then lvl20's would have to waste time finding low lvl quest bosses to get to Oryx.

mcfarvo

thats where my idea of being able to switch quest bosses comes in

@Exorcist:
RE: insurance co. would be very difficult to operate. Proof of death, qualifications/minimum pot/gear investment into any character you make a claim for, proof of those qualifications, etc. Yeah, we could design it with fail-safes to control for abuses (fraud and robbing the pool), but that'd be cumbersome. I think it's better to just have free form charity going on in the realm. I was just curious if it had been tried before. I'm newer to the game than you claim to be, so I just don't know. (And a quick forum search didn't yield anything.)
RE: idea of switching quest bosses. Do you mean giving players the capability of switching which quest is displayed by the quest pane/indicator? If so, I've suggested that before and agree with you. (Still would be a pain for all those 20s to have to waste time with lowby enemies.) If you mean these new realms will have a different composition of enemies (less low lvl ones, more high lvl ones), then I'd also support that. (I mined this up and now I see your thread)
