She might not be the main character in HBO's hit comedy Girls, playing second fiddle to Lena Dunham.

But Allison Williams was certainly the leading lady at the Robin Hood Foundation Gala on Monday, standing out in a bright red dress and matching lipstick.

Joined by the great and the good of New York's society scene, the 25-year-old actress made sure that all eyes were on her in attention-grabbing outfit.

Allison, the daughter of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, proved that she certainly knows how to make an impact, not shying away from the most dramatic of colours.

Showing that she's not a million miles away from her ambitious character Marnie, the actress obviously wanted to make something of an impression at the Jacob K. Javitz Center.

The rising star paired the strapless gown, which had a full skirt to the knee, with a pair of dainty black stilettos and matching clutch.

She wore her brown hair in loose waves and posed for photographs outside the event, which aims to raise money to battle poverty on the streets of the city.

And while Allison has been spending beginning of the month filming for the new series of the cult TV show, she's got a number of other projects in the pipeline.

She's in talks to play the title role in Rosaline, the Shawn Levy-produced feature based on Shakespeare that is mobilizing at 20th Century Fox and is reportedly also on the short list for the Fantastic Four reboot.

Jesus, when did she become so skinny? Look at her arms. Not healthy. She's not happy here either.

She is beautiful! I'm a little upset that Christopher Abbott is leaving Girls- he was really nice to look at in the last few episodes...
