Bicycle made for two! Naomi Watts straps her adorable five-year-old Alex into passenger seat for ride around Manhattan

She once admitted to turning down a limousine ride to the Oscars because it was bad for the environment.

And it appears Naomi Watts is instilling that same green ethos into her children.

The 44-year-old was seen cycling with her son Alexander, five, strapped in a seat on the back as she dropped him off at school on Friday in New York.

Safely wearing a helmet, the elder brother of Sam, four, solemnly looked around as his mom pedaled down the busy streets.

Sasha, as he is known, looked the spitting image of his famous mother with his white blonde hair and big eyes.

He appeared totally at ease as he looked around and took in the city scenes while his mother pedaled along.

Naomi, meanwhile, showed off her slender legs in skintight black exercise pants with a gold geometric pattern, paired with a denim jacket and black Adidas trainers.

She put safety first, donning a shiny black helmet and shielded her eyes with aviator shades.

Naomi, known for her chameleon acting skills, looked the part of regular mom on the school run - albeit with a Gucci bag slung across her chest.

She will soon be seen on the big screen playing Princess Diana in the biopic Diana.

Watts has been with Liev Schreiber since early 2005. They welcomed Sasha a little over two years later, followed by Sam in late 2008.

The family have been spending time in California lately as he films his new Showtime series Ray Donovan, which premieres at the end of June.

But Naomi has returned to her New York home in the trendy NoHo neighborhood in recent weeks with the children.

My daughter is about 6 months younger than Alex and she is far too big for the bike seat. Perhaps they make them bigger in USA!

society will - I hope - stop applauding irresponsible fools who cycle in built-up areas, especially in rush hour- Ana , Hobart, Australia.....................Perhaps "society" should get a clue & start building better infrastructure for those who wish to cycle to work, school etc rather then FORCE them into traffic.

Her son is too big for his chair, his knees on his nose level. In Holland he would bike on is own, but then again you can't compare busy Manhattan with sleepy Holland. Advice to Naomi-get a tandem bike, you don't have carry the whole weight then.

When I lived in the City I rode my bike daily; it is DANGEROUS for a young child to be riding on the streets there during any but the quietest of times [areas of Manhattan DO have nice quiet times]

She's had a lot of work done recently.

Well woopy doo. I hope she and her child stay safe. But personally, I'm waiting for the time when good sense will prevail and meaningful, enforceable regulations will apply to all cyclists. Then, society will - I hope - stop applauding irresponsible fools who cycle in built-up areas, especially in rush hour, on congested roads, & especially with kids on the back. Enviro warriors, my foot. As a motorist, and a careful one at that, I am totally sick of being held to account for MY driving, paying $$$ for MY car insurance and for 3rd party insurance in case of an accident to someone else. If I ever did cause injury to another I know I would be devastated for the rest of my life. Yet every day I see massively irresponsible & wildly unintelligent actions perpetrated by cyclists, breaking road rules, relying completely on the drivers to avoid colliding with THEM. Why should the poor unfortunate car driver have the whole burden of responsibility for keeping arrogant cyclists safe?

A very nice set of photo's, however cycling in Manhattan is a high risk undertaking.

They need bicycles like this for grown adults because I'd love to be sitting behind her as she pedals. It would be a good view. Bow chicka wow wow.
