Old Mill Redevelopment

The City of South Perth’s Old Mill Precinct Redevelopment Plan is a long-term vision that will maximise the area’s unique foreshore position, recognise its rich history and complement Perth City’s riverside development.

Dormant for many years, the eastern and western sides of the Narrows Bridge would be transformed into a lively heritage, cultural, recreational and adventure destination for locals and visitors.

Through a mix of local, state and federal government, and private funding, this ambitious redevelopment will bring together an exciting mix of heritage, cultural, recreational and adventure facilities to the iconic Old Mill site. This will include renovations to the historic Old Mill; construction of a museum, restaurant, cafe and supporting retail outlet; restoration of Millers Pool; and the addition of a flying fox and pedestrian bridge to Kings Park.

The City has undertaken extensive community consultation in the current proposal and also engaged with numerous State Government agencies and other related stakeholders in relation to the Old Mill Concept Plan.

In February 2012, the Council endorsed a number of studies being undertaken to advance the Old Mill Precinct redevelopment. These studies, including a Heritage Council Conservation Plan and Impact Study, Environmental Study (incorporating an acid sulfate soil study, dewatering study), public environmental review and Section 18 Study under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 will be submitted to Council when finalised in late 2012 for consideration.
