Revealed: The real sex and special effects behind Shia LaBeouf and Uma Thurman's graphic new film Nymphomaniac

Lars Von Trier's hotly anticipated new two-part film Nymphomaniac will include 'graphic sex scenes' between it's A-list cast with the help of special effects, it has been confirmed.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at Cannes, producer Louise Vesth revealed that there will be scenes of a very adult nature between members of the cast including Shia LaBeouf, 26, Uma Thurman, 43, and Charlotte Gainsborough, 41, but with the use of body doubles and digital effects.

It had previously been suggested that Transformers actor Shia would be engaging in real sex in the movie, but now producer Vesth has revealed details of how such scenes will be cheated.

'We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two,' she said.

'So above the waist it will be the star and below the wait it will be the doubles,' she added.

However, the extensive special effects required to make the look the scenes convincing are apparently the reason why the film wasn't ready for this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Instead the film is headed for a gala premiere in Copenhagen ahead of its release on December 25.

In a recent interview, Shia had implied he would be taking part in the graphic sex scenes - and would have been willing to go as far as the Melancholia director asked him to.

He said: '[Von Trier] is very dangerous. He's the most dangerous dude that I've ever showed up for.'

Admitting his fears, added: 'I'm terrified. I'm so terrified, which is why I have to go. We'll see what happens.'

'There's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says, we're doing [the sex] for real... and anything that is illegal will be shot in blurred images, but other than that, everything is happening.'

LaBeouf suggested von Trier will be pushing the boundaries further, saying the rest of the cast is ready to do whatever is asked.

He added: 'I've seen Intimacy. [Von Trier is] talking about something different... It's going to be a wild movie.'

But now it looks as though Shia and his other A-list co-stars have been let off the hook thanks to the special effects that were on offer.

An official cast shot from the movie was released on the film's website last week, and shows the cast members in several states of undress and racy situations.

Shia is pictured laying on the floor wearing just a pair of trousers.

Holding onto a stool behind him, he closes his eyes as the attractive brunette straddles him topless.
