Scathing: Brian May has launched an attack on BBC talent show The Voice

Brian May has launched an attack on 'vile' talent show The Voice.

The Queen guitarist has slammed the BBC singing contest - which is co-hosted by Reggie Yates and Holly Willoughby, and features pop stars Sir Tom Jones, Danny O'Donoghue, will.i.am and Jessie J on the coaching panel - as 'dull, dumb and depressing' and claims the programme makes him feel sick.

In a rant on his website, he wrote: 'Sorry, hate to be negative but The Voice is the dullest, dumbest, most depressing show on TV. It's the ultimate insult to music and to performers.

'Every time I catch a glimpse of young singers busting their guts trying to win somebody's attention, who is rudely sitting with their back to them... I feel sick.'

The 65-year-old rocker has called for an end to the show, and admits seeing Delilah legend Tom having such a prominent role on the programme makes him feel uncomfortable for the Welsh star.

He added: 'I hate seeing the great Tom Jones shoehorned into this scenario.

'I hope this vile show dies a natural death very soon.'

The Voice started life in the Netherlands, before the concept was picked up in America, with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green on the panel.

And speaking about the show previously, Christina, who is returning to the U.S. version of he show for the sixth season, said it was precisely the concept Brian slammed which appealed to her.

She said: 'The Voice is really judging people based only on their voice and it was a concept I hadn’t seen before. It also presents the chance for us to lift up new talents rather than tear them down.

'I knew I wanted to be part of something so positive. Our concepts and format are different so I see room for us all. We are a very different show.'

And this would have nothing to do with the fact that Brian May's protégé, Kerry Ellis, failed to get through the audition round last year, would it? Seems strange to single out The Voice when there are so many other "talent" shows that are equally, if not more degrading and vile.

It's not because Kerry Ellis, his little project, didn't get through the voice. Don't get me wrong I've seen her in shows myself and she's amazing but he's just annoyed she didn't get through and he got no praise for it.

Absolutely true Brian I am sick of seeing the *judges* gurning and bolstering their own egos for acts that in the main you never see or hear from again , as for Zebedee 17.01 Brian May hanging off the coat tails of of Queen ? ? I think you will find queen wouldnt have been Queen without his guitar playing

That ghastly hairstyle of Brians was bad enough in his younger days but now it is an absolute mess. He would look so much better if it was cut properly. He looks ridiculous !

Perhaps if they got rid of that clown William, the show's credibility might improve. He is so impressed with himself, it's nauseating, and he won't leave lovely Jessie J alone. This idiot had the inexplicable honour of carrying the Olympic torch in London (why? Couldn't they find any British people?) and he spent the whole time yapping on his mobile phone! His constant posturings are a major irritant.
