Nanchang City and Sister Cities Intercommunion

   Since the establishment of the first sister city relationship with Skopje City of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in March 1984, Nanchang City has successively become sister city of Toluca in Mexico, Takamastsu in Japan, Valkeakoski and Toijala in Finland,Dijon in France,Sorocaba in Brazil, Naju in ROK, Quilmes in Argentina, Peine in Germany, Newcastle in South Africa and Olympia in the US. Fruitful exchanges and cooperation are carried out on both sides within many fields such as economy, trade, education, culture and agriculture, which has vigorously promoted the development of Nanchang’s foreign exchanges and cooperation, elevated its international reputation, built a good open-up image for the city. It makes contributions to building Nanchang to a modern open inland city.

City of Skopje, Macedonia

 
   City of Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, is located in the north region of the country. It is the center of the national politics, administration, economy, science and technology, culture and commercial, also one of the oldest cities in Balkan Peninsula. The city covers a land area of 1,818 square kilometers, 225 square kilometers of which are urban zone. Its population reaches 600,000, making up 28 percent of the country’s total population. Being an important economical center of Macedonia, Skopje’s industry and mining account much of the Gross National Product (GNP). Especially, its metallurgy, Metalworking, machinery, car manufacturing, electronic machinery and products, chemical and tobacco processing industries are comparatively developed. 


City of Toluca, Mexico


   Toluca is an industrial and commercial city in South-central Mexico, the capital of the State of Mexico, situated in Toluca Valley. It is 64 kilometers west of Mexico City with an altitude of 2,639 meters, being the highest city in North America. The City of Toluca was firstly established in 1530. Its population is approximately 1.25 million (by 2000). Textile, tanning, vintage and food processing are the main industrial occupations of the city, and handicraft industry is also well-developed.


City of Takamatsu, Japan


   Takamatsu is located in northeastern Shikoku area, Japan, being the county seat of Kagawa County. It is the political, economical center and traffic hub of Shikoku. The city is adjacent to the world famous Seto Inland Sea in the north and rolling hills of Sanuki Mountains in the south. With bright sunshine and graceful nature, Takamatsu is one of most beautiful cities having few equals at home. It owns a total population of 420,000 with an area of 375 square kilometers. The city is booming in economy, with optimum-scales of industry, agriculture, commerce, architecture, fishing, and food industry. Takamatsu is equipped with complete municipal facilities and convenient transportation, reputed as ‘the capital of Seto’.


City of Valkeakoski, Finland


   Valkeakoski covers a total land area of 376 square kilometers. It became an industrial city in the 19th Century as the development of paper industry, formally established as a city in 1923 enjoying the right of municipal autonomy, and annexed S??ksm?ki in 1973. The economy of the city focuses on industry, in possession of some large enterprises, such as the subsidiary companies of UPM Group, Sands Co. and Tervasaari Pulp Mill. The scales of service industry, commerce and architecture are also fairly large.


City of Toijala, Finland


   The city of Toijala was set up in 1977, being a hub of railway communication. In 1903, it established wall paper production industry. Toijala accounts for 40 percent of Finland’s wall paper production. Other principle industries focus on apparatuses, building machinery, cutters, metal and wood processing.


City of Dijion, France


   The City of Dijion is located in southeastern France with a population of 250,000. It is the capital city of Bourgogne (with a population of 4 million), one of the 22 administrative regions of France, excelling in wine production, tourism higher education, agriculture, food processing, chemistry and pharmacy. Dijion is also a tranquil city of strange study atmosphere, combined with ancient culture and modern civilization.
   Dijion is the traffic hub between North and South Europe, and important transshipment station from France to Switzerland, Italia and Spanish. There are many old Roman roads connected with modern expressways. It is 320 kilometers away from Paris, having its own international airport and inland river harbors.


City of Naju, Republic of Korea


   Naju is located in west-central region of Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla) Province, Republic of Korea, next to Gwangju Metropolitan City in the north, Hwasun County in the east, Youngam County in the south, Hampyeong County and Muan County in the west. Yeongsan River divides the city area into northern and southern parts. Being the ancient cultural heartland of Yeongsan River drainage area, Naju is an old capital of a thousand years. It covers an area of 604 square kilometers and has 98,000 dwellers. Annual average temperature here is 13.2 °C. Pear and muskmelon grow in profusion there. 
   Naju has National Highways No. 1, No. 13 and No. 23 within its territory, as well as convenient railway and airway transportation. It is an important traffic hub connecting over ten cities and counties of the country. Food, chemical, metal and wood processing industries are principal sectors of the city’s industry.


City of Sorocaba, Brazil


   Covering a land area of 456 square kilometers, Sorocaba is 90 kilometers from City of Sao Paulo, with urban population of approximately 600,000. It is a technical industrial city of great importance in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Its economy focuses on industries, mainly including medical industry, automobiles components production, electronics, aluminium product and printing.
   The city has fairly convenient transportation connections. Its railway network is linked to Sao Paulo and Santos (the biggest sea harbor in South America), while the road network is all comprised of modern expressways. Airport of Sorocaba is the key airport approved by the state government.

City of Quilmes, Argentina


   Quilmes is a city in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.It covers an area of 125  k㎡and has a population of about 700,000. It is located south of the capital of Argentina, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
   Since Aug 2, 1916, Quilmes has been built into a modern metropolis. Its pillars industries are food processing, auto parts, clothing and especially beer-brewing.

Peine District, Germany


   Peine is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany. It connects Hanover and Brunswick, two of the most important cities in Germany. Under the district are 8 cities, which together cover an area of 535 k㎡.
It is industrially developed, focusing on auto parts, steel and machinery. Main cash crops include sweet beet and corn. Horse keeping plays a significant role in livestock breeding. In addition, logistics here benefits greatly from two main roads of Europe, E30 and E45, which run through the district. Peine is as well a well-known center of scientific research and education in Europe, with the presence of many universities, vocational institutions and R&D centers.

New Castle, South Africa


   Newcastle is the third largest urban center in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Populated at about 500,000, it covers an area of 1956k㎡, consisted of three towns, Madadeni ,Osizweni and Newcastle. It enjoys an advantageous geographical location of linking Johannesburg and Durban. As early as 1905, Newcastle had been an industrial center. Now, there are such famous enterprises as Iscor Limited establishing their businesses branch there. Newcastle is also famous for its textile and clothing, accounting for nearly 70% of the country’s garment and towel production that are marketed home and abroad. Meanwhile, here are other businesses involving diamond-cutting, marble, cement, brick, shoe, toy, clock and quilt.

City of Olympia, US


   Olympia is the capital city of the U.S. state of Washington and the county seat of Thurston County. It was incorporated in 1859. About one hour driving from Seattle, Olympia is at the south of the Puget Sound region. Its economy previously relied on port transportation, timber processing, and later on agriculture, husbandry, food processing, machinery and hi-tech industries.
   As the capital of Washington State, Olympia is the political and cultural center of the state. 80 km away is Seattle that is famous for its aviation and IT industry, of which the two biggest businesses are Bill Gates’ MS and the Boeing Company.
