Arsenal have been told primary transfer target Stevan Jovetic will cost £25million.

As Sportsmail revealed last month, the Gunners have had talks with Fiorentina and the Montenegro star’s representatives.

The Italian club want to spark a bidding war for Jovetic, with Serie A rivals Juventus also interested.

Arsenal are not willing to pay more than £20m for the 23-year-old who has been on the club’s radar since 2011.

Though both clubs are keen to make a deal, Arsenal have also talked to Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain after the Spanish club stated they wanted to sell the 25-year-old Argentine.

Arsenal will intensify their interest in Higuain if a deal for Jovetic cannot be struck, but Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle has admitted: ‘It is very unlikely he will stay.

'Stevan has to figure out what he wants for the future. If he is to choose something else, then it’s important we are compensated.’

Meanwhile, representatives of Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes have sounded out Arsenal to see if Arsene Wenger is keen on the Spain star.

The manager wants a new keeper and Valdes, 31, is said to be one of several being considered.
Queens Park Rangers’ Julio Cesar, 33, has also been offered to the Gunners.

I like how opposition fans knock Arsenal when Ushmanov and Kronke are worth a fortune.Personally i call it financial prudence. Yes they aren't winning anything yet BUT get your finances on a strong footing before you start spending wildly. It's all about something a lot of owners and fans don't understand. It's about patience.

I thought they were going to spend big this summer ? - West London Blue 2 , West Lindon, United Kingdom, 22/5/201********** No, they SAID they would spend big, there is a difference. Once the season tickets have been sold and the long suffering supporters have parted with their money Wenger will balk at big prices or wage demands and is probably, even now, perusing a few CV's from young French second division players who will be perfectly priced.

Of course they chicken out, that's why they will never be able to win the Champions League. the current scenario is perfect for the owner to keep sucking out the fans money and getting richer tho. - steve , Maidstone uk, 22/5/2013 15:55 Here we go, the end of season gum flapping, sreery and unfounded as usual. You should maybe take a step back for a bit, you haven't even got your beloved Josie in place yet. What if it doesn't happen? I think old Pulis would be perfect for Chelski....
