ASSISTANT COACH/DIRECTOR OF ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

JoHan Wang is in his first season as an assistant coach/director of athletic performance for the Golden State Warriors. In this role, he is responsible for designing & implementing the team’s strength and conditioning programs, nutrition, recovery, as well as assisting in the rehabilitation therapy of injuries.

Wang, 36, joins the Warriors after spending the last eight seasons as the associate athletic trainer for the Los Angeles Clippers. For the last seven seasons, he also held the additional title of associate strength and conditioning coach.

Prior to joining the Clippers, Wang spent two years at Stanford University, where he served as the associate director of athletic training from 2001-03 and was named director of athletic training services in the summer of 2003. While at Stanford, he was responsible for supervising the health care of 800 varsity athletes in 34 NCAA Division I sports and was the head athletic trainer for Men’s Basketball. Wang also served as the head athletic trainer for the NBA Development League Ambassador Team that competed for the Stankovic Cup in China and for the Pete Newell Big Man’s Camp during the 2007 offseason and as a volunteer athletic trainer at the United States Olympic Training Center in 2005.

A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Wang is also a member of the Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association and California Athletic Trainers’ Association. Additionally, he is certified as a performance enhancement specialist and corrective exercise specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

A Bay Area native from Sunnyvale, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from UC Davis and his Master of Science Degree from Boise State University. Wang served as an assistant athletic trainer at Boise State from 1999-2001, and was an intern athletic trainer for the Warriors in 2001.

Wang and his wife, Shari, and daughter, Keira, reside in Oakland.
