In the world of acting they always say never work with children or animals.

And actress Milla Jovovich may be wishing she paid more attention to this mantra as she got into a slight flap while handing a hawk in Cannes.

The 37-year-old Resident Evil star was spotted grappling with the large winged animal at the Martinez Hotel on Friday.

The Ukranian beauty was spotted on the roof of the luxurious hotel looking reasonably calm as she waited, dressed in black.

Wearing a thick protective glove, the actress was seen stretching out her hand as she welcomed a large bird of prey to perch on her.

The initial calm look quickly changed as the bird began to flap it's wings around the model-turned-actress' face.

She was soon leaning backwards in the commotion, clearly a little unnerved by the activity, as she tried to bring the animal under control.

As she continued to struggle with her new feathered friend, the accompanying team of wildlife experts who were on hand for the impromptu spot of training were quick to offer advice and instruction.

Between them they managed to get the beast under control and before long the actress was relieved of the critter.

She had better luck with a second bird of prey which seemed much happier to land on Milla's outstretched arm.

The brown feathered animal gracefully sat on her hand, giving a gentle flap of it's wings.

The actress is currently in Cannes as a guest of L'Oreal for the 2013 Film Festival.

The previous night she had attended the AmfAR's 20th Annual Cinema Against AIDS Gala in the company of other glamourous models and actresses.

Much more the kind of birds-of-a-feather that you may assume a Hollywood actress to associate with, Milla enjoyed the evening with fellow models Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, and Toni Garrn.

Sharon Stone was also in attendance, leading the glamour pack in a backless white Cavalli gown with a gold snake detail running down her back.

Pop star Kylie also shone in white, attending the money-raising benefit in a cleavage sporting Roberto Cavalli number.

Meanwhile, model Liberty Ross - who is currently divorcing Rupert Sanders after he cheated on her with Snow White & The Huntsman star, Kirsten Stewart - looked the business in a beautiful blue Balmain quilted top.

And style and modelling queen Heidi Klum stepped out in a gold tinted outfit.

Can't be timid when attempting to handle any animal. If you're going to be afraid, leave it to those who aren't. No harm, no fowl. (LOL)
