She is well known for her distinctive style and eclectic choice of film roles that never fail to stir emotion.

But one thing you can't say about Tilda Swinton is that she is a fan of the typical red carpet gown.

The 52-year-old looked stylish in her loose trouser suit in Cannes at the premiere of new film Only Lovers Left Alive.

Arriving on the red carpet with her blonde hair styled into a voluminous quiff the Michael Clayton star looked decidedly glamorous in the glittery olive green trouser suit.

With a slick of red lipstick the actress made sure she posed up perfectly in what looked like an extremely comfortable outfit.

Adding to the shimmery outfit the actress had pulled on chunky jewellery but didn't opt for earrings.

Her blonde bob was practically on end as it was playfully lifted up in the air by the elements.

The Michael Clayton star laughed as her follicles waved in the breeze as she posed alongside her latest director and co-stars.

Only Lovers Left Alive is just the latest vampire epic to be produced by Hollywood.

Tilda plays a centuries old blood sucker named Eve who is reunited with her lover Adam, played by fellow Brit Tom Hiddleston, who has become depressed and disillusioned by the direction of humanity.

Their relationship is thrown into turmoil when Eve's sister Ava, played by Mia Wasikowska, arrives in town.

The independent film is sure to be much more high-brow than the usual vampire films produced by Hollywood.

And indeed director Jim Jarmusch, who also attended the press call, has stressed the film is much more of a romance than a vampire flick.

'These two lovers are archetypal outsiders, classic bohemians, extremely intelligent and sophisticated — yet still in full possession of their animal instincts,' he is quoted as saying in official Cannes documents related to the film.

'They have traveled the world and experienced many remarkable things, always inhabiting the shadowed margins of society,# he continues.

'And, like their own love story, their particular perspective on human history spans centuries — because they happen to be vampires.'

Tom Hiddleston was also on the red carpet to address the Cannes crowds on Saturday looking sharp in a smart blue suit - which practically mirrored the outfit worn by Swinton.

Hiddleston perhaps applied a bit of gel to his own hair as his stood firm as he posed alongside Tilda while her hair caught the breeze.

Meanwhile director Jarmusch and co-star John Hurt looked a little more relaxed in dark shirts and jackets.

While Tilda's hair-raising moment amused onlookers, it actually mimics the sprawling mohawk that she sports in a new campaign for Chanel.

The blonde actress - whose ethereal beauty has captivated cinema goers and fashion experts alike - was chosen by Karl Lagerfeld to front the latest campaign for the iconic French luxury fashion house.

It is no surprise that Tilda would be top of his list as the latest collection romanticizes Scottish heritage, with Swinton herself being of Scottish descent and residing in the Highlands.

The star appears in a glamorous photograph with her hair spilling forward and dressed in tartan tinted pieces.

Prior to the Chanel shoot, Tilda served as a brand ambassador for Scottish fashion house, Pringle, appearing in a number of their campaigns between 2010 and 2012.

so the only way to be beautiful in modern times according to you people who's opinion is so much more intelligent than regular folks is to not be beautiful, ahhhhhh..... be unique, don't be a clone, be completely malnourished, not even a half a pound overweight, dear God the horror, no long hair, that's too clone like, be completely unlike anyone else so that everyone else will like you..... everyone who matters I guess... or everyone who thinks they matter....or everyone who can't fit in with just regular folks so they have to exclude people and create their own people to make fun of to feel better and call clones.... you see where I'm going. We can't all just appreciate each other? You have curls and they look beautiful on you? You have spiky hair and it compliment's your features? You're think and that's great for you? You're curvy and it works for you? How about I love how you treat children so kindly? I love how you help seniors? I love how you give of your time? ? ? ?
