Stoke target Hughes and Mackay as Pulis' replacement at the Britannia

Stoke are expected this week to move closer towards appointing their new manager following the departure of Tony Pulis last week.

Former Manchester City, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes is the leading contender and is rated highly by Stoke chairman Peter Coates.

But negotiations with Hughes, 49, are currently at an early stage and Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay may be seen as a cheaper option to the Welshman.

Contenders: Mark Hughes, left, and Malky Mackay have both been linked with the Stoke manager's job

Mackay has impressed with the way he led Cardiff to promotion, despite the club’s Malaysian owners risking unrest among supporters by changing the club colours from blue to red.

League One Sheffield United are also due to complete interviews this week for their vacant manager’s job.

Former Millwall manager Kenny Jackett and Motherwell boss Stuart McCall are on their shortlist.

What has Hughes ever done apart from fail.

Hughes has absolutely no form as a manager, simply an abject performance everywhere he goes. If he couldn't do it with Man City's millions!!!!!! Surely this story is a joke, or the gentleman who owns Stoke has problems with his memory and should seek help - urgently.

In my eyes Tony Pulis was better than both of them, but that's my opinion.

Will Mr Coates refund us mugs who have already forked out our money for a season ticket if he appoints Hughes? Do we have any rights

Why get rid of a good Manager like Pullis & appoint a bad Manager like Hughes? I don't get the logic.
