After that Mohican... Nicole Kidman's bird's nest hairdo

By Laura Cox

Her hairstyle for the opening of the Cannes film festival divided opinion, with some describing it as a futuristic Mohican.

And Nicole Kidman was turning heads again at the closing ceremony with a new look that some felt had more than a hint of bird’s nest about it.

She took to the red carpet with her hair – now a yellow blonde as against the darker tones of the Mohican – pinned up in what was described as a basket of braids.

Now that's red carpet behaviour! Nicole Kidman looked sleek in a white gown with silver detailing

The 45-year-old actress, who has been in the south of France to be a judge on the film festival’s grand jury, wore a Giorgio Armani white silk gown to Sunday’s event, accessorised with Harry Winston jewels.

With her hair swept off her shoulders the actress firmly cemented her place as the best dressed A-lister at the festival.

Her gown, which showed off her figure perfectly, had a plunging v-neckline with gold Swarovski crystal bow detail sweeping across the bodice.

Nicole's looks have been decidedly demure for this year's festival but The Paperboy actress always managed to keep her look fresh.

She was in close competition on the red carpet as Hollywood goddess Uma Thurman almost stole the show.

Looking glorious in her perfect flowing floor-length satin dress with corset detail the Kill Bill star simply shone as she glided into the last screening of the festival - thriller Zulu and closing ceremony.

With her hair slicked back in a divine bun the 43-year-old, who isn't even starring in the gruesome crime flick, made sure all eyes were on her as she ascended the stairs for the last screening of the two week festival in a custom made Atelier Versace gown.

Final film of the festival Zulu, stars academy award-winner Forest Whitaker turns in a solid performance as a cop searching for the murderer of a white teenager in the movie 'Zulu,' a violent and often shocking portrayal of South African gang culture where traces of apartheid still linger.

The film premiered at the close of the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday and is directed by 'Largo Winch''s Jerome Salle, co-starring Orlando Bloom as a free-wheeling white officer, as well as South African actor Conrad Kemp.

As a child, Whitaker's character Ali narrowly escaped being murdered by Inkhata, a militant political party at war with Nelson Mandela's anti-apartheid ANC. Now, as chief of Cape Town's homicide branch, his quest to bring the perpetrator to justice leads him on a path that uncovers the unhealed wounds of post-apartheid South Africa.

I've always loved Nicole Kidman's naturally curly hair. I can't stand straightened hair, it makes you look like a little girl.

Her lips have looked strange since she got them done.

That's no movie star, that is a LADY!

I find nothing wrong with Kidman's hair or dress. She looks smashing, and her style is miles above the average "celebrity." Only haters will unjustly criticize her look.

Nicole, same dress , same look ... Boring ...

She actually looks better with age. That's not saying much, since she has always been very unappealing to look at, but she seems to have learned to at least look like, and occasionally act like a lady.

We don't have too many old school actresses anymore--those that know how to be a star. Classy, elegant, styled to perfection--and able to carry it off!!!

Much prefer Nicole with some curls on show - it softens her look.
