Liverpool are set to miss out on star midfielder Christian Eriksen this summer after Champions League final losers Borussia Dortmund made their move.

According to reports in Denmark, the German club have put in a £10million offer for one of the hottest young properties in Europe, with a fee of around £13m to be agreed between the club.

The 21-year-old has a year left on his contract but is widely expected to lave this summer.

Ajax have tried to persuade Eriksen, who joined the club’s youth set-up as a 16-year-old, to extend his stay but they seem to have failed.

Daniel Agger has recently appealed for Eriksen to come to Anfield.

Agger said: ‘We want to play attacking football with the ball on the ground and that is exactly what Christian Eriksen is all about

‘That is the kind of player we need. It all depends on which team he plays for.

‘If he plays for a team who want to keep the ball on the ground, then the answer is yes - due to his passing, his runs and his hard work.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants his quartet of young stars representing England at the summer’s Under 21 European Championship to learn from Juan Mata’s example.

Jordan Henderson, Jonjo Shelvey, Andre Wisdom and Jack Robinson have all been included in Stuart Pearce’s 23-man squad for the tournament, which takes place in Israel next month.

Rodgers told Liverpool’s official website: ‘It’s great for Jordan, Jonjo, Andre and Jack to be part of it. I always think going to big championships like that is great for their learning.

‘Look at someone like Juan Mata. Two years ago he dropped down from the senior Spain squad to the U21s and helped them win the tournament.

‘A year later he was part of the team who won Euro 2012 and then last summer he went off to the Olympics. This season he’s gone on and played more than 60 games.

‘Major tournaments can be really beneficial in terms of helping players in their development. I am sure if our four players get that experience this summer then they will come back to us as better players.’

No top player will ever join Liverpoo, which is a dead club at the moment, and Christian Eriksen is no exception.

LFC are finding it hard to compete with salaries at the moment.

Good luck in Germany, BVB will be lucky to get such a highly rated young player for only 10 mil, I would of thought he would go for 15 or 20 mil

He dominates the ball in key areas of the field and some of his interplay is phenomenal in terms of distribution and ball usage with the central strikers. He'd be a key part of any team we build. There's a real hunger and desire in the group and he'd be a great asset to Liverpool football club i'm sure - Brendan, Melwood, 28/05/2013 16:37 Quality!

Looks like they have replaced Mario Gotze well.

I reckon he'd cost £25 million if he was English.

You could have said Champions League runners up Dortmund but instead branded them as losers. Disgusting.

Big names just won't go to Liverpool. They are too small a club now
