Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is prepared to make Cristiano Ronaldo the best-paid player in the world to keep him at the Bernabeu after the departure of manager Jose Mourinho.
Perez said: ‘I would like Cristiano Ronaldo to be the best-paid player in the world. We’re going to do everything at our hand to make him happy.’
The former Manchester United superstar has been linked with a return to Old Trafford this summer - and with a move to mega-rich French champions Paris Saint-Germain - but Perez is determined to keep him at Madrid for some time yet.

Ronaldo has been a prolific scorer since his £80million move to Spain in 2009, netting an extraordinary 146 goals in 135 games.
The Madrid president also insisted that despite numerous instances of player revolt and mutiny against the ‘Special One’ this season, the players had nothing but good things to say about Mourinho.
He added: ‘The players only had good words about Mourinho. They told me that he was the best.
‘We don’t know who will be the new coach. We will talk about that during the next week. But we want Zinedine Zidane to be the leader of the project.’
Zidane’s first job is to bring Tottenham’s superstar Gareth Bale to the Spanish capital - even if it costs £65million.

The club have long been admirers of the Welsh winger and a link-up with Ronaldo would make Madrid a formidable force next season.
Zidane has been a key player in Madrid’s transfer business since he retired in 2006. He played a key part in convincing Raphael Varane to move to the Bernabeu and will hope to groom Bale in a similar way.
Tottenham’s plans are for Bale to continue for one more year, despite the disappointment of the club not reaching fourth place in the league and therefore not qualifying for the Champions League. To counteract this, the club are putting together a new contract whereby Bale’s earnings would go up from £4.7m gross a year to £6.4m.
Bale won the grand slam of player-of-the-year awards last season, scooping the Football Writers’ Association accolade, both PFA prizes and the Barclays Premier League honour.
