Our regular update of which party voters trust on 15 key issues highlights modest political gains for the GOP.  Republicans hold a three-point advantage on the economy, the most important issue to voters. The parties are virtually even on the number two issue—health care. Forty-two percent (42%) trust the GOP more on this issue, while 41% trust the president’s party. In March, the Democrats had a seven-point advantage on the health care issue.

The trend is also visible on some of the hot topics in the news. Republicans now have a three-point advantage on the immigration issue. Previously, Democrats held the edge. The tides also have shifted in the GOP favor on gun control and ethics.  Republicans have their biggest advantage on government spending and issues affecting small business.  Democrats have their biggest lead on the environment.

Only 28% of voters approve of the Justice Department’s secret subpoena to obtain the telephone records of Associated Press reporters.  Fifty-eight percent (58%) disapprove. The numbers are similar for the Justice Department’s actions against Fox News Reporter James Rosen.

Scott Rasmussen’s weekly newspaper column shows consumers are set to repeal a large part of the president’s health care law. “Advocates of the plan dramatically misread the public mood. Only 28 percent of voters believe the top priority should be guaranteeing comprehensive insurance coverage for all workers. Sixty-six percent think it's more important to let workers pick their own mix of insurance coverage and take-home pay.” If they had the choice, 59% would opt for less expensive insurance and more take home pay.

Coming up this weekend on What America Thinks , Scott Rasmussen looks at public reaction to Attorney General Eric Holder's current troubles and other topics. Then, Washington Examiner Executive Editor Mark Tapscott discusses the various investigations in Washington and how the press is responding. Finally, former Democratic Congressman Patrick Kennedy talks about the challenges of legalizing marijuana.  The weekly television show airs on 64 stations nationwide. Find a station near you.

Thirty-three percent (33%) of Americans feel now is a good time to sell a home in their area. That's the highest level of confidence in over four years.
