As a small child who was barely able to dress himself, Sean Combs probably had no idea he would become one of the most powerful men in music.

However, the little boy with the huge afro and cute smile was destined to be the rap impresario known globally as Diddy.

The 43-year-old mogul shared a picture of himself as a tot looking calm, cool and collected in his retro attire.

Even at such a young age Diddy, who has six children, showed off his ease in front of the camera and his penchant for polo neck jumpers.

Although he has ditched the afro in favour of S-Curl hair, he is still as cool ever and even at such a young age he still displayed some serious style credentials in his cardigan.

Diddy has a net worth of $550 million, but he started from humble beginnings having been raised in a public housing project in Harlem, New York City.

His mother Janice was familiar with showbusiness as she was a model who also worked part time as a teacher's assistant.

His father Melvin Combs was a close friend of convicted New York drug dealer Frank Lucas, and he was shot dead at the age of 33 while sitting in his car.

Lucas, now 82, was immortalised in the film American Gangster, which starred Denzel Washington. Ironically, Diddy also produced an album called An American Gangster, which was inspired by the same movie.

Diddy was still just a child when he lost his father, and he gained the nickname Puff because he would huff and puff when he was angry.

As an adult he gained legendary status in the music world after signing Notorious B.I.G to his Bad Boy Entertainment records label.

Having worked as a producer and artist with several musicians including Mary J Blige, Jay-Z, and JLo, he became one of the most powerful names in music.

He also branched out into fashion and beauty products releasing clothing line Sean John and fragrances under the same name.

@lily darcey, corvallis: You think he's uglier than a mud fence post but your preoccupation with superficial things has probably prevented you from accomplishing one-tenth of what he has been able to do with his life.

It looks like even as a child he was unable to keep his mouth closed. In just about every photo I've seen of him, he always has his mouth open.

@- macko , new york, United States, 31/5/2013 18:53 - then you must be as wealthy as Branson and Gates - How possible you compare Gates with Branson? It's like comparing a Rolls with a Fiat.

I like him! I think we're programmed to dislike people like him with their money, fame and lifestyle. But, you always see him with his kids looking happy and he takes care of his family, including his ex's. That to me is decency.
