Today we have two Image Comics reviews for you! Spoilers ho, so tread carefully.
Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #1
A sequel to one of the craziest, most meta series I’ve ever read, Bulletproof Coffin continues at Image with this new series, Disinterred. And I’m happy to say, its as over the top insane and deconstructive as it’s ever been. Where the last series introduced a comic book fan turned superhero – The Coffin Fly – to his creators with hilarious and poignant results, here writer David Hine and artist Shaky Kane are taking on crime/noir comics. Sort of.
Like the first series, it’s a little tough to say what BC:D #1 is about until the series is all over. It wasn’t until the last issue of the first series that we found out David Hine and Shaky Kane were insane shut-ins willing to sell their own characters out at the drop of a hat. And it wasn’t until that moment it became clear why they were creating these new characters, and what The Coffin Fly’s journey had been all about.
Here, we have a new set of characters, and there’s still a “mystery men” element, as an insane police officer prone to see connections where perhaps there are none dons a disguise, and goes to fight crime… Even though he, himself, might be the criminal. And yes, there’s an appearance by The Coffin Fly in this issue that sets everything into motion (someone will have to remind me, but I think this issue shows an alternate take of the last scene of the first series?); but for now, what connections there are beyond that remain to be seen. You probably know JAKKS from their line of plug and play video games, like the old-school joystick you can plug in to have Ms. Pac-Man magically appear on your screen for some retro-arcade, zombie-blasting action. "AMC is excited to work with JAKKS Pacific to provide an innovative way for our fans to enjoy more of 'The Walking Dead,'" said Marci Wiseman, AMC's Senior Vice President of Business Affairs.
The Walking Dead Deluxe TV Game from JAKKS brings to life the show's action with a realistic 'pump and shoot' shotgun controller, multiple levels of Zombie adventures, and a variety of game modes. As with all of JAKKS' TV Games titles, the controller simply plugs into the A/V jacks of any standard TV and contains multiple games in each controller, and no additional consoles or software are needed. While not yet rated, the game is submitted for an ESRB T for Teen video game rating.
The game will feature multiple modes and will retail for $39.99, and features animated models of characters from the TV show. No word if they'll include Merle Dixon for some redneck zombie action, although they could include him in the JAKKS Big Buck Hunter Pro game for authenticity.

For those geeks who consider board gaming their number one hobby, holiday gifts can be a minefield. Once someone is labeled as a hobby gamer, they become numb to the endless march of strange licensed Monopoly games thrown their way. But how can you blame the gift givers when the desirable games are so removed from mainstream consciousness? Strategy board games are a booming industry, but not one exactly at the peak of pop culture — they're not even stocked on the shelves at most stores.
If you're in the position of buying for a gamer friend (and you yourself are geeky enough to be reading MTV Geek) then you are that individuals's last hope to deliver the goods this holiday season. Read on, and I'll tell you exactly what is hot with the hardcore hobby gaming crowd this year.
Thematic Strategy Games:Game of Thrones andThe Walking Dead
Nothing is hotter than these two properties right now, making them both great themes for board games. It should be fairly easy to find out if your gamer friend is a fan, and If so, then these games will form the perfect intersection of geekdoms.
The Game of Thones board game is a timely choice, as the second edition just hit store shelves this week. In this new version, Fantasy Flight Games has completely re-done the graphic design as well as incorporating two existing expansions and some brand new content all in one box.
If your gift target is a big Walking Dead fan, then that poses a tough decision, albeit one that should not deter you. There are competing games published by Z-Man Games (based on the comic book, pictured above) and Cryptozoic Entertainment (based on the television show). Let your friend's preferred media format guide your choice.
Runners up: Discworld games (Ankh Morpork or Guards! Guards!), Penny Arcade the Card Game: Gamers vs. Evil

So you've got someone one your holiday list who you want to keep entertained for a few hours--maybe even in hi-def? Well, look no further than this lineup of 2011 TV on DVD and Blu-ray releases for a couple of ideas of what to get that special someone who's into the living dead, disavowed secret agents, drunk secret agents, and grimy, sci-fi adventure.
