Because no one will love you as much as a sassy brain in a jar.

Sure, we could talk about the iconic villainess from "Metroid," but in honor of the holiday, we thought it would be better to focus on her animated counterpart from "Captain N." Voiced by former Four Tops singer and "Little Shop of Horrors" actor Levi Stubbs, the animated Mother Brain was just the right mix of cleverness, pettiness, and eternal exasperation necessary to make a good foil for the Saturday morning heroes of "Captain N."

If you're thinking about showing your Mother (Brain) some love this year, why not send her a bouquet of flowers, or Captain N's light gun, or some fish flakes for her tank?

Developer The Game Bakers ("Squids," "The Squids Wild West") are swearing that they've licked the problem of the virtual d-pad with their latest, "Combo Crew." The brawler (which is weirdly 4:3) uses a series of swipes for its combat, theoretically avoiding the will-crushing, finger-cramping frustration of the tiny-screen virtual d-pads of games like Capcom's "SFxT" port.

After the jump, check out the "Combo Crew" trailer. The game will be out on iOS and Android this spring.

The hack and slash from "Muramasa: The Demon Blade" developer Vanillaware is headed to the PS3 and Vita, and if you preorder the game, you get a nice, hefty 64-page artbook (pictured above).

Oh, and we've got the game's cover art after the jump.

Zeno_Clash_-_Father-Mother

This weekend, as we prepare to honor our wonderful mothers and mother figures, let's not forget the unsung Father-Mothers out there doing the good work of raising odd babies in a hellish wasteland. The hermaphroditic bird creature from "Zeno Clash" may not have necessarily given birth to Ghat and the rest of its misshapen brood, but it did "love" them after a fashion.

So if you have a Father-Mother in your life, be sure to send he/she a box of chocolates or an odd bundle of sticks covered in pig hearts (they're impossible to buy for).

This morning, Rockstar announced that the gory most dangerous game would be coming to PSN. It'll be hanging out in the PS2 Classics section starting May 14th for $9.99, about ten years after its initial release on Sony's last console.

In the game, you "step back into the shoes of James Earl Cash, a Death Row inmate playing that most dangerous game of kill-or-be-killed at the mercy of the maniacal Lionel Starkweather."

WatchDogs_Takedown Cop DroppingDoor

I'm looking at these admittedly impressive screens for Ubiosft's upcoming "Watch_Dogs" and all I can think is "Citizens, pay no attention to the man in the trenchcoat and the mask!" Cyber vigilante Aiden Pearce cuts a very conspicuous figure on the mean streets of Chicago with his mask tucked up on his face and baseball cap pulled over his eyes. It's a frankly bad-circa-2005 character design in what looks like an otherwise impressive game.

You can check out more screens featuring some of the game's AR effects after the jump.

hellraid

The dark fantasy title from the "Dead Island" developers gets its first gameplay trailer, complete with infernal monsters attempting to do dirt to your hero character. Techland describes it as a four player first-person slasher. I say throw in some magic and we might have a current-generation "Hexen" followup.

"Hellraid" is coming to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 later this year.

In this pre-alpha walkthrough, you can see a pair of new weapons (including the much-discussed dubstep gun), as Volition introduces a new cosmetic weapon customization system. Also: mech combat... and super powers as Volition throws everything (including the kitchen sink and the whole kitchen) into "Saints Row 4."

SCB_Screenshot_MPEVENT_SVM_1

And suddenly, there was a class-based shooter in my "Splinter Cell" game.

The fundamental ideas behind the Spies vs. Mercs in "Splinter Cell: Blacklist" are strong: asymmetrical tactical missions where the stealth side is outgunned but compensates with gadgets and the ability to sneak while the combat-focused side is less agile but makes up for it with devastating attacks. In each of the scenarios presented to us by Ubisoft, the run and gun (well, walk slowly and gun) Mercs must prevent the sneaky Spies from arming and detonating a series of bombs on each map, but that asymmetry is kind of disruptive and at times, frustrating, hampered by stiff controls and with the first-person perspective of the mercs, an added challenge to gaining situational awareness.
