It was supposed to be a motion-controlled game that would bring emotion to motionless players, but now Gore Verbinksi's Blind Wink Productions' "Matter" moves no more. Joystiq reports that the Kinect title, originally planned for a summer 2013 launch, has been given the axe by Microsoft, the latest in the well-known cycle of major filmmakers dabbling games (see also: Spielberg, del Toro).

Even as we wait for the next iteration of Microsoft's motion-tracking hardware, Japanese clothing chain United Arrows is yet another source of an... unorthodox use of Kinect.

Did I say unorthodox? I meant to say "Ohgodthemannequinsarealive!"

The scariest part of “Dead Space 3,” Visceral’s dark, sci-fi third-person-dismemberer, will be when the pricing for the game’s microtransactions are revealed.

Eurogamer spotted an in-game prompt in the game’s weapons-crafting system when the player doesn’t have enough resources to build the Necromorph-blasting machine they want. Scrap parts to build weapons can be picked up from the player or by scavenger bots, but they can also be purchased from an in-game store.

Free stuff keeps popping up today.

After the successful launch of "Double Fine Happy Action Theater" a mere 10 months ago, you can look forward to a bunch more party games from the people behind "Psychonauts" and "Brutal Legend." "Kinect Party" is on the way to your Xbox machines as a free download starting December 18th via Xbox Live--at least through the New Year, according to a post from Double Fine.

If you're not up to date on your extreme sports you might be wondering what exactly is Ice Cross Downhill? It's kind of a cross between a luge and roller derby, whereby a total sane and reasonable person straps on a pair of iceskates, plops on a helmet, and hurls down a man-made slide of solid ice. Apparently, it's been around for 10 years and last weekend Red Bull host their World Championship at Niagara Falls.

It actually looks quite thrilling and I'm sure in my more youthful days I would have been exstatic for an attempt. Fortunately, Bongfish, the development team behind "Stoked: Big Air Edition" and "Harm's Way" will save you and me a few broken bones with an arcadey version of the over-the-top sport with "Red Bull Crashed Ice Kinect".

Everything you need to know about the weird disconnect at the heart of Ubisoft's "Marvel Avengers Battle For Earth" can be found in the review package the publisher sent along for the Kinect release. The T-rated motion-controlled fighting game included a pair of those rubber Hulk hands you may or may not see kids smacking each other around with.

What do I, allegedly a grown man, need with a pair of Hulk hands? I mean, sure they're fun to slip on, and alright, I posed for them in a couple of pictures, but who wouldn't? Alright, so maybe I'm loving the fact that I have a pair of the Hulk hands, but so it goes with the game: with its shallow fighting mechanics and barely-there storytelling, it doesn't make sense that this is a T-rated game, and might not offer much for that audience beyond a few furious opening minutes. But this is a game aimed squarely at younger players, and I'm not really sure how "Marvel Avengers Battle For Earth" squeaked out of Ubisoft HQ with a T instead of an E.

I won't wax on about how the promises of one Peter Molyneux never quite live up to reality, nor will I harangue skeptics about the potential of Kinect. Like many other Kinect titles, Fable: The Journey relies a bit too much on a few gimmicky motions to feign a sense of gameplay while the machine furrows its brow in a vein attempt to figure out what this hu-man is trying to do. Truthfully, Journey isn't a terrible game per se; it's just kinda... there... as a show piece of several game-like mechanics cobbled together to form an interactive product. That said, I enjoyed what worked (when it worked) and when it wouldn't... well I didn't have a controller to throw in anger.

This is one of those weeks where one can celebrate the diverse output of the game industry, with several high-profile titles making their debut across some pretty diverse genres. You've got a first-person, stealth-focused action game in Dishonored, alien hunting strategy in XCOM: Enemy Unknown; a trio of new Kinect titles. Plus a slew of titles we couldn't get to this week like Blood Bowl, Port Royale, or the new Atlus-published RPG Code of Princess on the 3DS.

The one disappointment: no exclusive titles for the Vita this week, which is threatening to atrophy and die from lack of support.
