The Resource Request is where you can request information on a subject or request a specific article, if you lack a source for a Wikipedia article.

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Making a request:

  • A request may be an open question for more information on a specific subject, or you may ask for a specific article or work where you have a reference but lack the full text. Someone may be able to help you.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: any newspaper or magazine article, searches in a commercial full-text newspaper or journal databases, searches in academic journal databases, encyclopedia articles, court decisions, laws, academic publications or research results, biographies, etc.
  • Be aware that you are perfectly entitled to send a message to the [lead] author(s) of scientific research papers to ask for a copy of their paper directly.
  • If you are looking for a book, have you tried to access it from Google Books? (Be aware, however, that many books in Google Books cannot be entirely consulted online, and in many cases just a few pages can be accessed.)
  • To make a request, you may either contact directly one of the people who have listed themselves below under Direct contact or follow the procedure here for making a general request on this page.
  • To get email replies without disclosing your email address publicly, configure "My preferences, User profile, Email options".
  • Start a new section at the end of the 'New requests' section at the foot of this page and sign with your username (four tildes). Request specific titles, dates, or a combination of search keywords. You also may specify which database or work to search in. Add as much detail as possible as this speeds up the whole process. Try to provide a DOI for an electronic document or an ISBN for a book.
  • If you are requesting multiple sources, numbering them (1, 2, 3..) can help to keep the subsequent discussion clear.
  • Keep an eye on your request on this page to acknowledge questions and remarks promptly.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled, add a note to that effect to your request so that the work won't be duplicated by others. The {{Resolved}} template is appropriate. The request then will later be moved to the 'Filled requests' section.

Responding to a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests. People whose library provides access to a relevant database or to an extensive (academic) archive, or anyone who has a personal collection of resources is particularly well placed.
  • Edit any questions and replies into the relevant section of this page. Indicate which part or parts of the request you consider you have answered so others do not duplicate your work.
  • If you decide to transfer an electronic document to the requester this will normally be done either (a) by giving a URL ( http://... ) pointing to a web resource or (b) by email to the requester.
  • (a) Web document. Edit the URL into the relevant section. If the document is not already on a web server you may be able to upload it to one, provided it is legal for you to do so. Be sure to respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases (e.g. JSTOR) may not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites.
  • (b) Email, particularly for sending a document as an attachment:
  • If you have configured a Wikipedia email address ("My preferences, User profile, Email options"), edit the relevant section on this page asking the requester to email you using "Email this user" so you may reply to them.
  • Alternatively, and provided the requester has configured a Wikipedia email address, by going to their user page and clicking "Email this user" you can send a text message (but not an attachment) which will give the requester your own email address. In your message ask the requester to reply so you will learn their email address. Edit the relevant section of this page to tell other people what you are doing. Reply to the requester's reply with a second message which includes the relevant attachment.

Hey - I need an interview from the magazine Jackie. It is number 1535 - Thursday 3 June 1993. The interview is with Felice Arena. I know they are collectable so I was thinking that maybe someone has the issue - or it could be available for research purposes. [edit] Verification of reliability

The article on Jayne Mansfield has the following content.

First marriage

In May 10, 1950, a pregnant 17-year old Jayne married 22-year old Paul Mansfield at Fort Worth, Texas.[1][2][3][4][5] One biographer, Raymond Strait, wrote that she married Paul publicly in May 6, had an earlier "secret" marriage in January 28, and her first child was conceived after the secret marriage.[6] Some sources cite Paul as the father of the child, [1][2] while others cite it to be a result of date rape.[4][7] The marriage certificate of Jayne and Paul lists their date of marriage as May 6, 1950.[8]

Can someone verify the following part of it?

The marriage certificate of Jayne and Paul lists their date of marriage as May 6, 1950.[8]

If the marriage certificate is true, then almost all the biographers are wrong. That's serious.

I don't have access to the certificate and have no clue of its credibility.

  • I don't have access to archives.com. I do have access to ancestry.com, but I could not find a marriage record. Reading through ancestry's guide to Texas marriage records, it seems that statewide Texas records begin in 1966, which casts some doubt on the cited source, but it is possible that ancestry just doesn't have as much in its database as archives.com. It would be helpful if the user who found this record could produce a PDF that I could look at. Generally, wikipedia would not use a primary source document like this, even if it contradicts other sources. If this is just a textual record, rather than a scan of a document (as is very likely) than it is very possible that there was a typographical error in typing up the document. GabrielF (talk) 04:17, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. But, seriously, it needs to be checked. If no one has any access to the source, it needs to be removed. Aditya(talkcontribs) 11:47, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
Just because editors who patrol this board doesn't have access to the source doesn't mean it needs to be removed. That's a really poor argument. OhanaUnitedTalk page 22:58, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Hitoshi Doi

Hi! For Hitoshi Doi I would like to find:

  • YesY Done Wilner, Norman. "Anime fest invades Toronto." Toronto Star. June 18, 1999. Entertainment Start Page 1
  • Also I would like to find the following television episode: Undercurrents Season 2, Show 8 Original Telecast: Nov. 22/1996
    • Specifically this segment: "Otaku Producer: Adrian Callender Reporter: Todd Southgate One extreme form of obsession with technology is the information junkie. They are people actually in love with information, and they first came to light in Japan, according to Todd Southgate."
  • — Preceding unsigned comment added by WhisperToMe (talkcontribs)
    • I've sent the Toronto Star article to you via email. GabrielF (talk) 18:30, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Undercurrents may be hard to get; I don't see it on YouTube, Amazon, or a number of torrent sites I checked. Maybe you'd be better off finding a relevant episode in Japanorama, which is easy to get via torrent? (And probably more in depth, too.) --Gwern (contribs) 14:23 7 April 2012 (GMT)

[edit] Wagner Braille

Am interested in viewing a copy of Electrical Design News, Vol. 11, from 1966 by Rogers Pub. Co. (web page HERE) for information about who or what "Wagner Braille" is and what he/ it has to do with front curtains (the article on which I am working on a complete overhaul of and want to be as thorough as possible). Any assistance? Thank you! KDS4444Talk 05:17, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Well, this and this suggests that a "braille curtain" is also called an "Austrian drape" or a "Vienna curtain", after the design in the Imperial Opera House there, so used in Wagner, Mahler and many other composers' operas. LeadSongDog come howl! 19:45, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Original Source for Greenspan remark

I'm looking for the original sources of these two quotes by Alan Greenspan:

Smallman12q (talk) 23:13, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

    • Seen quoted here and here dated 22 Feb 2005, citing "from the archives" without saying which archives. LeadSongDog come howl! 22:38, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
I found an article from 1995, which states "Its chairman, Alan Greenspan, is notorious for his ability to speak at length without saying anything intelligible. He even jokes at congressional hearings about his opacity, saying, in effect, 'If you understood me, I must have misspoken .' " I've also found it quoted by yahoo, washington post, financial express. I'd still like to get the original sources...they're excellent quotes=P.Smallman12q (talk) 01:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
The fact that the St. Petersburg Times article says that Greenspan said "in effect, 'If you understand me, I must have misspoken.'" leads me to believe that Greenspan never actually said those words and that someone later misinterpreted the article and thought it was a direct quote. FWIW I searched LexisNexis and the Congressional Record for anything containing Greenspan and "misspoke" or "misspoken" and that was the first reference that St. Petersburg Times article was the earliest reference that came up. GabrielF (talk) 02:04, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I've done a bit more digging. Numerous sources indicate that Greenspan made the following statement: "I guess I should warn you if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I said." in 1988 during a speech to the Economic Club of New York. The NPR show Marketplace played an audio clip of Greenspan saying those words on January 30 2006 You can listen by following this link and clicking on "Saying goodbye to Greenspan" [2] There is a document of a June 14 1988 speech to the Economic Club on the St. Louis Fed's website [3]. It doesn't contain the quote - I'm guessing that it wasn't part of his prepared remarks, just something that he said to warm up the audience. GabrielF (talk) 03:16, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Thanks. I've also looked at wikiquote:Alan_Greenspan#Misattributed so it may be that the others are misattributed. This document references the quote to "Eggins, Suzanne, and Diana Slade. Analyzing Casual Conversation. London: Cassell, 1997."

A 2005 NYT article mentions "I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I said." It's nice that you found the sound clip, as it means he actually said it. An original source would still be best.

Wikiquote also mentions "Since becoming a central banker, I have learned to mumble with great incoherence. If I seem unduly clear to you, you must have misunderstood what I said." If the original source for that could be found for that, that'd be great. Smallman12q (talk) 13:11, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I should be able to get these in print, in about a month, and obviously it will take time to scan this much; you may need to remind me. The full report reference is "Texeira, Carlos, and Rumi Masih, 2003, "South Africa Growth and Unemployment: A Ten-Year Outlook," Goldman Sachs, Global Economics Paper No. 93, May 13". Does anyone know where I can find a FREE copy of this report. So far, I can't find anything. If anyone finds a copy, I would please like for it to be free since I DO NOT want to pay for anything. Well, there's listings for that serial under OCLC 649101471, OCLC 42858675, and OCLC 723630865 with slight variations in the cataloguing data. One of those might be near you. The specific article is under OCLC 249539554, which is only shown as held in Kiel, Germany, but the whole series is available at one of the other libraries, e.g. NY Public Library. Don't expect to be able to take it out though, it'll be just for use in the library. LeadSongDog come howl! 20:55, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Samoan Parliament

Template:Samoan elections has a gap of 75 years, and I want to complete it. It seems to be that there is one book conataining the neceassary data

  • Leota L. I. Ale: Samoan Fono a Faipule (Legislature), 1873-1993: Composition and Changes in a Hundred-and-Twenty Years. Apia 1995

This book is a PhD thesis, thus making it hardly avaiable, WorldCat does not show us any library having that book, but it can be found at the University of Auckland, were the thesis was written[9], maybe also in other libaries in Australasia. It is enough if I have only the years the elections took place. Lists of MPs or statistical data is optional.--Antemister (talk) 08:25, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Did you try to use The Statesman's Yearbook?--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 09:28, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, of course, but there is little information about that native parliament in those old issues.--Antemister (talk) 11:34, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
I've uploaded an article: "Political Development in Western Samoa" from 1948 that you might find useful. It doesn't seem to me that the Samoan Fono a Faipule was much of a legislature so much as an advisory body. Elections in this era also seemed to be very limited in terms of who can vote. I don't know what your standards are for deciding what constitutes an election.GabrielF (talk) 22:48, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

I already knew about that article, I know as well that the Fono was only an advisory body. A request to a German national living in Samoa answered most of the question: There were no western-style election there, but rather discussions among the matai to choose representative. Do not really need that book for the elections project.--Antemister (talk) 19:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Nadar Hermaphrodite book

[Moving this over from the talk page to make it easier for me to keep track of. GabrielF (talk) 18:31, 14 August 2012 (UTC)] Is there something, like the RX, for requesting book sources, perhaps scans or another editor to use the work to expand an article? I'm considering bringing Hermaphrodite (Nadar) (caution, NSFW) to FA class, and there is a book from Creaphis which looks to be useful. However, ordering it where I live would set me back close to 60 dollars (which is, quite frankly, not something I'll spend) and libraries here would most certainly not hold it. It's held in several libraries, like Stanford, but that's way out of my reach. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:26, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

I can scan it in early September. It looks like its only 64 pages. Are you interested in the images or the images and the text or what? GabrielF (talk) 05:33, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Images and text, if possible. More text than images, if size is a problem, but we're missing three of the series in our article. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:44, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

This is really a shot in the dark, but I'd like to get ahold of digital copies of this or this, if possible.

  • Clifton Bledsoe Cates, War history of the U.S.S. Pennsylvania BB (38), Ship's Welfare Fund, 1946.

To be clear, I don't expect to get anything, but I'd rather not spend ~$80 on Parrant's book, and Cates is impossible to find... hoping for a miracle. :-) Thanks! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 09:07, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

My library has the Cates book. I can probably get you scans in September. Are there particular sections that you're interested in or the whole book? Its only 65 pages so scanning the whole book is possible. GabrielF (talk) 02:46, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I missed your reply, which is terrible of me considering what you're offering. Scanning the whole book would be preferable – I'm working on User:The ed17/Sandbox/Pennsylvania class battleship and am covering the entire history, not a specific year range. If you're short on time, you can skip anything during WWII because I can get other sources for that (surprise, scholars cover the wars well but peacetime not so much!). Thanks very much! Hi again, I'm looking for two article in medical journals on methamphetamine usage: Meth mouth: a review of methamphetamine abuse and its oral manifestations in GENERAL DENTISTRY and then Etiology of xerostomia and dental caries among methamphetamine abusers in Oral Health & Preventative Dentistry. Let me know what you find, thanks. Mark Arsten (talk) 21:19, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Need some help from someone in Russia / Belarus

I need some data that I think is available freely in the net. Recently, the Russian Religious Atlas (Атлас религий России) was published by Среда. The maps are available here, at the bottom of the page. However, it will be great if I can get hold of the tabular data (i.e the data used for creating these maps). I am not fluent in Russian, so it is very difficult for me to search in the net. Can anyone help me, and tell me whether the data is available on the net? Thanks in advance. [edit] Whole medical systems

I'm trying to find the context of the use of "whole medical systems" in this article: [14]. Can someone provide a few sentences around it so I can see the usage (fair use amount)? IRWolfie- (talk) 20:05, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

The medical system forms an indissoluble and hierarchical whole in which healing acts are closely linked with ideas about disease causation and models for classifying disease. The whole is oriented toward the problem of effectively dealing with illness. From this viewpoint, healing is not the outcome of diagnostic acts, but the healing function is active from the outset in the way illness is perceived and the experience of illness organized.

--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 08:29, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

is there any part where they use the specific phrase "whole medical system". IRWolfie- (talk) 10:07, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes in footnote."Alland (1970) attempts to compare whole medical systems in his evolutionary framework. General comparisons of Asian, African and Western medical systems are found in: Robin Horton, 'African Traditional Thought and Western Science. I', Africa, Vol. 37.(1967), No. 1, p. 50; Pierre Huard, 'Western Medicine and Afro-Asian Ethnic Medicine', in F. N. L. [edit] NFL League secondary markets

Hi all, I am searching extensively for a comprehensive compact official list naming all of the NFL League directed "secondary markets" for television broadcast. If anyone has access to the official league secondary television markets please provide, thanks a ton! Marketdiamond (talk) 16:23, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

I think you should ask this question in WP:RD/E --Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 16:43, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Appreciate the quick reply, there is a dilemma though the few sources for such a "list" online are in discussion forums and they contradict each other or are incomplete (a certain team has none on one list and 2 or 3 on another!?!) so although group knowledge or anecdotal experiences may help, the big question remains does WB/Scranton only get blacked out for Eagles or also for Steelers and that editor says Jets too . . . its not really a consensus thing since tens of millions of dollars are riding on it and the League office (NFL) does enforce them completely along with the networks. An official list is really the only thing that matters with a question like this since the 100 or so satellite cities/micrometros on RD/E could be or couldn't be and there are league subparts to the rule (i.e. flex scheduling) that can make it appear that Scranton is Steelers when it is simply the Eagles play later in the day and it's only "territory" claim is solely Eagles. Or is it Jets and Eagles? Personal experience and anecdotal is what is available on Google and is leading to increased confusion. To be open on this I did post the question there but again without it in black and white officially and completely can be tons of confusion. Marketdiamond (talk) 17:02, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Magazine/paper sources on video games

Hello folks, I would appreciate any sources for the following articles:

  • Blue's Birthday Adventure - specifically:
    • Reviews in reliable publications
    • Interviews with the developer which involve this game
    • Sales figures
    • Please note that reviews from the NYT and the Seattle Times are already present.
  • List of dragon video games
    • Any articles which discuss the history of dragons shown in video games, in particular any theory on why it is they're so commonly used (links to Dungeons & Dragons etc.) Basically I want to write a good solid introduction for the top of the list as to why there are so many games with dragons in them in the first place.

Any help would be most appreciated, these aren't 'serious' subjects but I would like to work on them nonetheless. Someoneanother 22:19, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Maryana Marrash - Bint fikr (1893)

Hello everyone! I'm looking for this book: link 1, link 2. This book by Maryana Marrash was published during her lifetime, and the reference page from Googlebooks says her name is "Maryana bin Fath Allah bin Nasrallah bin Butrus Marrash", but I would like to see the real title page to make sure, or someone to confirm that, if possible, for I don't have access to either link, perhaps because I don't live in the US. Only seven or eight sources from Googlebooks from the 1990s and 2000s mention that name "Butrus" (which would be that of her great-grandfather, according to the rules of the traditional Arabic name). The problem is that she had a relative called Butrus, "son of Nasrallah", mentioned in the article, who might have been an uncle (since his father was Nasrallah), or—and only this source could make that hypothesis more plausible—her great-grandfather. Thank you for your help! Bryan P. C. C. (talk) 08:07, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Article by Eysenck in Deutsche National Zeitung

On the Hans Eysenck article, someone has found in an academic source: "In der April-Ausgabe der rechtsextremen Nationalzeitung von 1990 schreibt Eysenck einen Artikel, in dem er Sigmund Freud der Verschlagenheit und mangelnder Aufrichtigkeit zeiht, wobei zugleich auf Freuds jüdische Herkunft verwiesen wird". To further check it out, can we get access to that article: April 1990 edition of Deutsche National Zeitung. I think I have found it in the catalogues of the German National Library and British Library. Itsmejudith (talk) 21:32, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Googletrans gives "In the April issue of the extreme right National Zeitung from 1990, Eysenck writes an article in which he accuses Sigmund Freud of deviousness and lack of sincerity, which are simultaneously referred to Freud's Jewish heritage". Hi. Does anyone have access to this book. I beleive it may have information that would allow me to remove a citation needed tag from Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The ISBN of the book is:

[edit] A book about Genealogy by Bruce Cartwright

I need a book about Hawaiian Genealogy authored by Bruce Cartwright and Geo. Awai. I have no idea what the title is but I know it contains information about the genealogy of the family of Isaac Davis (Hawaii) and it is located in the Hawaii State Archives in Honolulu, Hawaii. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:12, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

A search of their archives finds nothing about Issac Davis, though there are other works by Cartwright. A search of the genealogy indexes [sic] reveals nothing useful, nor does their genealogy book index (takes a while to load). Additionally, WorldCat provides several Hawaii-related works by Cartwright, but nothing about Davis. I'm providing these links in case you'd like to double check, since you know what you're looking for, but I haven't been able to find anything so far. Robert Skyhawk (T C) 07:41, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
I've seen a tantalising glimpse - "a Bruce Cartwright, and Geo. Awai's Genealogy of Hueu Davis both in AH" - using GSearch but the underlying post here has been deleted. A search of "Genealogy of Hueu Davis" returns this but I am unsure of the relevance. - Sitush (talk) 08:38, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Btw, the pdf in the link above is definitely about an Isaac Davis. It has a printed reference at top right - LCA 8521B - but the meaning of this is unclear. - Sitush (talk) 08:44, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
I don't think the book would be specifically about the Davis family. It would be a book about the genealogy of chiefs/notable people of Hawaii.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 08:54, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Can anyone see page 239 of this item from the parliamentary debates of the Rajya Sabha, 1997? I've only got snippet view. Some debates are online at the official website of the RS but seemingly not this one. - Sitush (talk) 20:57, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Cultural impact of extraterrestrial contact multiple journals

I am looking for materials that can be added to the Wikipedia article on the cultural impact of extraterrestrial contact. These derive from multiple sources, some which currently are in publication, others which are no longer published but present on searchable academic databases, and others which may no longer exist. Any help in finding even a few of these sources is welcome. For a more full listing of all the sources that I want, go to this source directory from NASA NTRS and browse under Section 5.2 - Contact with Extraterrestrial Intelligence: Impact on Earth Civilization. These sources appear to be the most likely to exist, as they mostly come from currently published works or are books.

215; Two Steps From the Blues

Bobby Bland

BEAT GOES ON 1961

THIS COLLECTION OF THE blues singer's 1958-1961 singles was recorded after Bland had his tonsils removed and lost some of his upper register. The result — an even more stirring, guttural howl — is epitomized by "Little Boy Blue" and "Cry, Cry, Cry," which erase any distinction between blues and soul.

Two questions: 1) How do I get to the German wikipedia and ask them and 2) Is their any way to get a German-language journal translated into English? I saw the abstract in English and I've seen papers do it in two languages before but in case it isn't I'd like to know if their is some way of doing that. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 16:32, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
On most Wikipedia pages, the bar to the left shows a list under "Languages" of links to similar articles in other languages. This page (Wikipedia:WikiProject_Resource_Exchange/Resource_Request) lists only one such link, to the German Wikipedia page (de:Wikipedia:Bibliotheksrecherche/Anfragen), labled simply as "Deutsch". While it is generally best to avoid posting on a wiki in languages other than they normally use, there is some flexibility for requests such as this, and English is widely understood. [edit] Library Support

Greetings,

I'm searching for the following book on the Maoroccan Crisis of 1911: "Deutschland und England in Marokko und Tripolis unsere Politik in Gegenwart und Zukunft". Unfortunately it is not available in any library here in the UK. According to the Worldcat ([39]) the only copies that are still in existence are located in the US. To be specific the New York Public Library, the Harvard College Library and the Harvard Law School Library are still in possession of that book. I presume that this book in an old doctoral thesis. Since I'd like to know more about the author I was wondering whether there is someone around, who has access to the aforementioned libraries can spare 5 to 10 minutes to pick up a copy of that book and check whether there it contains a curriculum vitae of the author, as was customary back in that time. If that should be the case I'd be grateful if the person checking out the book could transcribe the curriculum vitae and post it here. Since the curricula vitae in doctoral theses were very brief (8 to 12 lines in a rather big typ-size on average) it really is just a matter of 2-3 minues to carry out the task - even if you do not understand the language. If it really is adoctoral thesis I'd furtheremore be interested into the text of the front-page ("Inaugural dissertation written by...") and into the brief info on the second an third page (normally 2 lines giving the names of the professors who were assigned to review the paper and a two-line dedication of the work such as "to my parents"). If anyone can help me - Thank you very much indeed in advance!R.J.K.O.83 (talk) 02:53, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Since this is your first Wikipedia edit, could you please clarify whether you you are looking for this source in order to write or edit a wikipedia article? GabrielF (talk) 03:12, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
I have written Wikipedia articles before. However, since I am a semi-regular user and not too much of a technical aficinoado, I never bothered to register for a regular user-account. My interest regarding the aforementioned book is two-fold: For one thing I am interested in the matter for the sake of it. But I have also started an article on the author of the book, a man by the name of Axel Ripke who is probably most-notable for his role as a propagandist during World War I and as an early mentor of Joseph Goebbels. I hope that the article is adequate proof of the honourableness of my request and my readiness to incorporate any useable findings into the Wikipedia.R.J.K.O.83 (talk) 04:53, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Newspaper stories from 1911 Oklahoma

I'm wondering whether anyone has access to a good news database that might include the following. It's for Lynching of Laura and Lawrence Nelson.

  1. Front page of the Okemah Ledger, 25 May 1911; I believe the headline was "Lynchers Avenge the Murder of Geo. Loney, The Nelson Woman and Her Boy are Taken from the County Jail by Unknown Parties and Swung from Bridge Across North Canadian".
  2. The Omekah Independent, Vol. 7, No. 36, 25 May 1911: "Woman and Boy Lynched, A Mob Enters the County Jail Last Night and Take two Negro Prisoners Whom They Hang from a Bridge".
  3. The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Friday, 26 May 1911: "Woman Lynched by Side of Son, Okfuskee County Mob Takes Double Revenge for Officer's Death, Bridge is Gallows." That one appears to be available here, though I don't know whether this is the whole story.
  4. Tulsa World, 26 May 1911: "Mother and Son are Lynched at Okeemah, jailor is surprised and bodies later found dangling from a bridge". Note: "Okeemah" could be a typo made by the secondary source, or it could be in the original headline.

[edit] Annual reports of Scantlin Electronics Inc. / Quotron Systems Inc.

I am writing an article on Quotron, see the draft. Scantlin Electronics Inc. (SEI) was taken public as a non-listed stock in October 1960 with Loeb, Rhoades & Co. as the underwriter. In 1973 the company was renamed to Quotron Systems Inc. In 1985, Citibank acquired the majority of the shares. I am looking for IPO filings, annual reports and similar filings from the time of 1960 until 1985. I looked into the EDGAR database without success, but I am assuming that there be some other SEC filings, listed or not. Thank you. --Minderbinder-de (talk) 21:08, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Kinda what I expected, thanks. Zad68 18:05, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
"Neither the press release nor the paper mention colloidal silver or any variation on that term." - I have already said, that saying silver and colloidal silver is almost the same, and in this article it is the same. With what stories the internet awash? Nobody tried to consume chunks of silver, right? The only form people have been consuming is cs. The word "colloidal" is generally a confusing one for the majority of the people. But it takes just one minute to read the wiki article on "colloidal" to understand that it doesn't make much difference. It is still makes a general definition. By saying "colloidal" you don't define what kind of silver, what molecule or atoms or any configuration of silver. So you may as well not to say it at all, as they have choosen to do in the article. In this case instead of saying "colloidal silver" they say "silver" and mean the same thing. Additional link: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/02/120202094700.htm. (I would like to point to "Story Source: The above story is reprinted from materials provided by University of Leeds.)
I have removed "resolved" tag, sorry if I'm not allowed to do that.
My questions are: Is that article mentions "silver"? And a second question, can it be considered as a colloidal silver? For the "colloidal silver" has two definitions:
a)Layperson definition: Any silver-based substance intended for ingestion or external application.
b)Scientific definition which means that silver should be microscopically evenly dispersed into another medium. (This definition stems from wiki article "colloidal".

I would like to point, that both definitions are general ones. They do not include the characterization of the type of silver being used, it's atomic or molecular structure. (All the silver intended for ingestion is essentially is a colloidal one, otherwise it would be just a piece of a silver.) So "silver", "colloidal silver" and "nano silver" mean absolutely the same thing. Its clear that in the press release when they use "silver" they don't mean "pieces of ordinary silver". [edit] Radioactivity of the heavy elements

In Chinese article of francium hydroxide it is claimed that francium hydroxide is soluble in water(In English article of francium there is a similar claim using the same source says"Nearly all francium salts are water-soluble.") along with this source:Maddock, A. G. (1951). "Radioactivity of the heavy elements". Q. Rev., Chem. Soc. 3 (3): 270–314. doi:10.1039/QR9510500270. , but I can't know from the abstract that if this article says anything about solubility of francium salts.--Inspector (talk) 07:52, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

It says:
The element is the heaviest alkali metal and, as might be predicted, possesses very few characteristic co-deposition reactions; but it can be separated from other elements, cesium or rubidium being used as carrier, on the perchlorate, picrate, or phosphotungstate after removal of most other metals by the addition of sodium hydroxide and carbonate. Since nearly all francium salts are soluble and because its radiation characteristics are distinctive, the separation and estimation of the actinium-K has been proposed as a method of assaying actinium. (p. 280)
Is that solubility in water? Chemistry is definitely not my strong suit. --Atethnekos (DiscussionContributions) 09:54, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks after all. Are there any descriptions on how they arrived to this conclusion? Is it original research to apply it to a specific case, e.g to say that FrOH is soluble in water(it might be deduced otherwise by the solubility of other alkali metal hydroxides)?--Inspector (talk) 10:02, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
He writes nothing more on the matter and cites nothing. So you have to trust the author's word. Author: Dr. Alfred Maddock, DIC, MRSC, Sc.D., CTH, D.C., Louvain, [Cambridge University:] Assistant Director of Research in Radiochemistry, 1947–52, Lecturer in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, 1953–62, Reader in Radiochemistry, 1962–84, Fellow and Emeritus Fellow of St Catharine’s College, 1959–2009. Paper from 1951.--Atethnekos (DiscussionContributions) 10:30, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
So, is it sufficiently a reliable source and significant enough for inclusion in article?--Inspector (talk) 11:55, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
I would guess so. The only issue may be that research on the topic was poor before more recent times, such that those views are outdated. I would guess that research on solubility of salts would be well-established in the mid-20th century. However, as I said, I don't know chemistry, so that is just a guess. The author's credentials are impeccable, and the paper is written in a respectable journal. --Atethnekos (DiscussionContributions) 20:19, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
And supporting the notability of a number of salts?--Inspector (talk) 00:39, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
I guess just say "claimed to be soluble..."Is a moderate way to say this.--Inspector (talk) 02:57, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
You can't use a source saying "nearly all francium salts are soluble" to write in Wikipedia that francium hydroxide is soluble. It is obviously an example of original research. Somewhere out there is a suitable reference... Zerotalk 01:40, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

There is no entry, "BDSM". "BDSM" occurs in the entry "pleasing":
2004 Lisa Chapters 1 thru 6 (BDSM Subliminal) in alt.sex.stories.bondage (Usenet newsgroup) 26 May, Caressing her head, I compliment on how much she has improved in her pleasing of me.)
And in the Draft Addition (June 2012) for "dominant":
2007 Guardian 20 Sept. (G2 section) 17/3 You are both turned on by the type of erotic play broadly known as BDSM.., but whereas he enjoys being both a ‘bottom’ and a ‘top’ (playing either a submissive or dominant role), you are only comfortable being a ‘bottom’.
--Atethnekos (DiscussionContributions) 09:24, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for info (and the Usenet cite for "pleasing" is certainly interesting!), but these are much later than the earliest date that Google Groups gives (June 1991), so it doesn't resolve any of the open questions about the origin of the term... AnonMoos (talk) 09:31, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Peter Viemeister's The Beale Treasure: History of a Mystery

Recently I have improved the Beale cipher article in Chinese wikipedia, and I am confused about some events mentioned in Simon Singh's The Code Book as I cannot find additional resources on internet to verify them and establish their importance. I guess Singh might have taken reference from Viemeister's book, so I would like to know if anyone have this book.

Some events mentioned in Simon Singh's The Code Book:

  1. "Among the most ardent treasure hunters attracted to the Beale ciphers were the Hart brothers, George and Clayton....One of the Harts’ tentative decipherments encouraged them to use dynamite to excavate a particular site; unfortunately, the resulting crater yielded no gold. Although Clayton Hart gave up in 1912, George continued working on the Beale ciphers until 1952"(p.90)
  2. "For example, there is a Cheyenne legend datingfrom around 1820 that tells of gold and silver being taken from the West and buried in eastern mountains."(p.93)
  3. Joseph Jancik, Marilyn Parsons and theri dog Muffin were found digging in Mountain View Church. They were fined $500 and taken custody.
  4. "[Carl] Hammer has been a prominent member of the Beale Cypher and Treasure Association, founded in the 1960s to encourage interest in the Beale mystery. Initially, the Association required that any member who discovered the treasure should shareit with the other members, but this obligation seemed to deter many Beale prospectors from joining, and so the Association soon dropped the condition." Well for this I found there do exist some infos that a "Beale Cypher Association" was established in 1968, and "Beale Cypher Association" is more commonly used name yields more google results. However, the association does not seem to have a website.

Seemed still some other are missing from that online pdf, so I will add more once I find my book.--Inspector (talk) 06:37, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Popular Contemporary Writers series chapter author needed

Today I came across an edited book series on contemporary writers. Here is the link. I would like to use the entry on Marion Zimmer Bradley (pp. 237-250), but cannot seem to find out who the author of her chapter is (the final page of her chapter is not available in Google Books, and the table of contents does not divulge this information). Michael D. Sharp is the editor of the entire work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ruby 2010/2013 16:47, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Since all you need is the name of the article author and perhaps the last page, you might consider emailing the publisher[55] and explaining that you would like to cite the text in a Wikipedia article. I am interested in which sources this author used to get his info about Robert Alexander Early (October 1849?-October 1960). This is a previously existing ref in an article that I'm trying to work up to FA, but the abstract is useless, and it looks too important to ignore. I'd be grateful for full text if possible Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:04, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi great assistants to us all, back, again after a while away from this Resource exchange. Please help—if you have any bright ideas, more than i’ve already tried, on getting this? Preferably of course in PDF form, but it may not be available electronically from the publisher, as their web page says. It’s one of the rare ones not available in my scholarly resources at home or the Uni, here in Cairns, Australia:

Also this one if i may, please:

Only today i’ve turned up an editing need for it. It is easier to access. For me, i have (only) to go to the library building to get this one, but that will now be next week.

Thank you all in general for your and this great service. ——--macropneuma 10:53, 17 April 2013 (UTC) —added one more—--macropneuma 15:11, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Received! Fantastic catch, of hard to find literature for me. Thank you very much GabrielF. It seems so hard to obtain electronically. How did you find it? I'm fascinated and wondering for any future use of old issues of the journal? Any time there's a need for hard to get Australian biological literature, someone might like to drop me a line and let me know. Cheers. —--macropneuma 22:26, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

[edit] The Singing Street by James TR Ritchie

For the article My Old Man's a Dustman, I'm trying to establish whether the popular playground version about a football match is older or more recent than Lonnie Donegan's hit version. In Google books, I am able to see a snippet from this book by Ritchie where a version of the football song (though titled "My Old Man's a Scaffie") is recorded. The book was published in 1964 (i.e. after Donegan's version) but I know that the author had been collecting playground songs since at least 1951. What I'd like to know, if anyone can access the text, is whether a date for the "Scaffie" version is given.

The book was published by Oliver and Boyd, Edinburgh in 1964 (see page 127) and republished by Mercat Press, Edingurgh in 2000.

Appreciate this might not be an easy one. Formerip (talk) 22:29, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
