The return of the man with the iron mask! Leonardo DiCaprio goes unnoticed in Venice as he slips on disguise to eat pizza

He famously portrayed King Louis XIV and his secret twin in The Man With The Iron Mask.

And Leonardo DiCaprio appeared to be feeling some nostalgia for the 1998 film in Venice on Friday.

The actor made the most of the Venetian masks the city is famed for as he did some sightseeing.

Leonardo decided a disguise was the perfect way for him to walk around the romantic Italian town without being recognised by tourists.

But rather than choose a beautifully decorated mask, or even an ornate one of any kind, the star stuck to a masculine look with a simple black design.

Careful not to be spotted, Leo even wore his sunglasses on top of the mask so as to hide his dreamy blue-green eyes.

The 38-year-old clearly picked up some tricks while playing a masked man and still remembers them 15 years on.

He was seen expertly eating a large slice of pizza while only having to move his façade slightly on the streets of the floating city.

Flocks of tourists passed Leo by without a second glance and there’s no doubt Leonardo was pleased with the success of his disguise.

He didn’t wear much camouflage when it came to his outfit however, as he dressed in a typically casual ensemble.

The Great Gatsby star wore a cream newsboy cap along with a black zip-up bomber jacket over a white T-shirt, jeans and blue canvas shoes.

Leonardo was promoting his latest movie at the Cannes Film Festival and then enjoyed a stint in Monaco and Ibiza before travelling to Venice.

He is rumoured to be dating Victoria’s Secret Angel Toni Garrn, who at 20 is 18 years his junior.

Leo was seen making the fresh-faced German model giggle as they spent some time together in Nice, France last weekend.

Wearing a flat cap and designer glasses, the Basketball Diaries star was easily recognisable as he relished his love of sports.

Leo stylishly blended into France's fashion capital with a blue buttoned-shirt, navy blazer and jeans.

The Great Gatsby star sat quietly among the captivated crowd who had gathered to see tennis stars including Roger Federer and Serena Williams compete in the fourth round at the Roland Garros stadium.

Most famous for his love of basketball, Leo tried off his own skills with a racket in November when filming a prison scene for his upcoming film, The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Spot the star: Leo went unnoticed among the fans who were more interested in the action on the court than the Hollywood actor among them

He is wearing a mask in Venice. You know, where you've never seen so many masks in your life?! If it was any other city he would have attracted more attention with it on. Not in Venice, it worked.

love it... he's obviously doing it on purpose, he's put his sunglasses over the top for christs sake.. he's probably doing it for a laugh, you know, the thing that some people like to do now and again.. doesn't mean he's loosing the plot or needs sectioning.

I realize it must be annoying to be attract attention all the time, and even more annoying to have papz following him, taking photos of his every move... but still, a mask? Shades of Michael Jackson's poor kids. Maybe Leo needs to find a new career that allows him privacy, or stop doing things that are so conspicuous.
