Little Abington Campsite Review

Abington Camp Site Statement – June 2013

Update on the sale of Little Abington Scout Campsite.

As part of the County Executive Committee’s (CEC) commitment to all members of Cambridgeshire Scouting to keep you informed of progress in relation to the sale of Little Abington Campsite, we are able to provide another update.

The CEC’s advisers are currently dealing with the offers to purchase the site which have so far been received. In addition, interest has been expressed by several individuals and other organisations in purchasing the site, and possibly using it for community and recreational use.  Foremost among these organisations has been Little Abington Parish Council (LAPC), who made an approach to the County Commissioner.  The upshot was that on 30th May 2013 Matt Mills, the Regional Commissioner, chaired a meeting between the County Commissioner, the County Chairman, and the Director of Support and Development (representing the CEC) and Councillors Peter Brunning and Paul Pritchard (representing LAPC), Councillor Tony Orgee of South Cambridgeshire District Council (Abington Ward), Reg Cullum (Chairman of the Friends of Abington Campsite [FAC]), and Paul Morris, representing an ad hoc parents’ group.

Abington Camp Site statement - February 2013

The County Executive Committee (CEC) met on 20th February 2013 to take a decision on the future of the County Camp Site at Little Abington, near Cambridge.

As members will know, the future of the camp site has been under discussion for a number of years, and various proposals have, over time, been put forward. None came to fruition. In January 2012 proposals and ideas for the future of the site had been requested of any District, Group or individual member in the County. Four proposals had been received, and in July 2012 the CEC decided that a decision on the camp site’s future must be taken as expeditiously as possible.
