I want to be in charge of Nintendo! I would fix so many of there looming problems they have. I could make a list of the problems but you guys know them all. I guess some of us still by there stuff cause we all know the quality of there games are always there but is that a enough any more? I have all the Nintendo's home consoles. I would not recommend the wii u right know! It makes me MAD! That us Nintendo fans sit hear and play with are self's! It is NOT the FIRST time or the LAST! I know I am not the only FAN saying that either! Nintendo needs HELP! So how do we get them to change?

Loved the documentary, so interesting seeing GD offices in another country, especially one so different from the US. I want to visit every place they showed, Japan just looks amaziballz!

Great documentary; kept my interest the whole time and very informative. I've always wanted to go to Japan one day but now I know there's more to explore than just Tokyo. ;)

Nintendo should just pull the Wii U out and update the hardware. Car brands collect vehicles too and they are way more expensive and heavier..

@Itsthetruth They can't, the consumer backlash of early adopters would spell their downfall. I really hope Nintendo pulls through, Ihaven't owned a Nintendo console since I bought a game cube for 40 bucks after the Wii launch, but they're part of my childhood, and I'll always support them. They just need to get their shitake together.

Great matter but several world famous games franchises were created by japanese developers like Mario Brothers, Street Fighter and Metal Slug at the past but now we are receiving a flood of poor quality games of independent developers. I think this is terrible! it seems everyone thinks knows how to do a game!

I would like to know the name of the Megaman like game, is it called Megagirl or something?

japanese games rule, most of the games i own are japanese infact the vast majority are

@ilovethewitcher Japanese games in the past have been the pinnacle of creativity, and in many ways continue to be. Indie developers in the US are the driving force of creativity here, and I hope the creativity and Japanese influence only gets bigger. There are too many American casual gamers who just don't seem to get the Japanese "out there" designs. Shame too, so many great Japanese games that don't make it to the US, but hey as long as there is another F'ing Battlefield or Call of Duty, those games NEVER get old...sarcasm intended in that last comment, in case it wasn't obvious enough.

great video. kudos to whomever did the footage of cityscapes and japanese culture. I was really impressed.

And I agree with the guy below, a  music reference would be awesome :)

Does Shaun McInnis speak Japanese?  Because he was doing that interviewer 'I understand and I see your point' head bob while Tutsuya Minami was speaking Japanese.  Unless of course the magic of editing got me and the just kept his translator off mic, but I couldn't help but notice this every time.

monicker

@DaN_WiL LOL - I was wondering the same thing. Actually I think it's edited, they most likely have an interpreter sitting there with them off camera, so it won't be distracting, or he understands Japanese.

What to say, to someone intrigued by japan and especially to me living in a shitty little country Tokyo is one place that has about as many people in it as this here whole little shitty country combined together. It probably also has more innovation in the last two months than this whole place has had since it was written up by the powers that be. If i had ten days to spend in japan then tokyo would be a great start, i feel i'd barely scratch the surface even if i stayed just in that one city. Gotta start somewhere

Who cares about Tokyo? Maybe the people in Tokyo should care about people living in other cities. The earthquake and Tsunami victims are still in much trouble, they could use some monetary help, more than people that play video games to embrace their delusions.

God the best part of Japan is those excellent games like Bayonetta [2009].

monicker

@Wensea10 Bayonetta, such a fantastic game. So fun and well paced, and the graphics, the Fing graphics and variety of enemies, that game is a true work of art.

Wensea10
Wensea10

@monicker @Wensea10 As intyeresting as it is though...it reminds me of the Devil May Cry series though.

Wensea10
Wensea10

@monicker No worries buddy...it is really the most recent one DMC [2013] that is really generic but still interesting.

monicker
monicker

@Wensea10 @monicker I played DMC 1 on the PS2 when it came out and wasn't all that impressed. The graphics were stunning for the time, andI liked it OK, but something was lacking, the action seemed very shallow, as did much of the game play. If you think it reminds you of the DMC series, well that means I needs to do a little checking out of the aforementioned DMC series. Maybe even revisit the first one.

Wow another awesome video guys. I definitely wouldn't want to be the guy to put the subtitles in this one! What I really loved most about this video was the way you guys got beautiful shots of Japan. There were a lot of images in this video that triggered this desire to want to visit the country, I suppose in a sense, in created a fantasy. The music selection was perfect and the interviews were great.  Really well done guys, I'd nominate this video for an award if I could.

Awesome work as usual Shaun and Tyler! Strong identity in that region and it could be felt in the developers' interview (except maybe Inafune who didn't seem to care much :p)

Do you plan to do a Tokyo episode also when you cover TGS?

TylerW
TylerW moderatorstaff like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

@g7o7 The funny thing about Inafune - we actually had to interview him at our offices during GDC because he was ill when we were in Japan. We figured the ComCept offices looked so similar to our conference room that we could pass it off without having to explain ourselves, but maybe being away from home explains why he was less passionate about the Kansai region of Japan.

Of course we would love to do a Tokyo episode, and we have some decent opportunity to pull it off. Keep those fingers crossed. :)

Lol at Capcom. They show there is more to Japan by outsourcing most of their games to overseas. Yeah, you show them.

This was great, more devs need to make the games they want to make.  Not copy off another studio's success with a subpar product.

I am sure that any one who even has a passing interest in Japan knows at least Kyoto, Osaka, Okinawa, and maybe even Sapporo, Nagano, and a few other notable locations. The rest could care less about Tokyo or Japan, as long as they get their games.

@kiramasaki Doesn't matter if a games come from Asia, Europe, Africa, S, N America, Australia, or even Antartica. Sorry there Antartica, I know you always get the short end of the stick.
