Last year, Native American organisations like Native Appropriations and For Accurate Indigenous Representation Media (F.A.I.R.) successfully took action against Victoria's Secret and the band No Doubt.

The lingerie brand apologised and removed an offending ensemble donned by Midwestern model Karlie Kloss from its 17th annual fashion show broadcast.

Their fashion fetishizing of the Native community's clothing and customs came just six days after the ska-pop band pulled their 'Cowboys and Indians'-themed music video for Looking Hot within a day of broadcast.

The racially-insensitive video featured Gwen Stefani dressed in a traditional headdress, tied up by two men and writhing against a wall, communing with a wolf, and taking part in native rituals like smoke signalling amidst tomahawks and teepees.

Sexual assault rates against Native American women are reportedly higher than most other ethnic groups, and No Doubt immediately apologised for romanticising the much-beleaguered community.

Jeez i feel slightly sorry for anyone in the public eye! Do that have to think about everything they wear in fear of offending. She probably didnt even know what it was she was wearing! just 2 girls messing around taking photos.

Being African I can completely understand & sympathise with Native Americans. I'm not AT ALL trying to be racist BUT white people can't understand how even the most subtle things can be VERY RACIST. Europeans & Americans are always "borrowing" aspects of people's cultures & adopting "trends". This can be very demeaning.THAT IS SOMEONE'S CULTURE!! And they value it. For example; the Native American war bonnet; do people even realise that, the war bonnet is something you EARN in Native American culture. To someone who's foreign it just seems like a bunch of feathers BUT it holds a lot of prestige for them. Also it's technically ONLY SUPPOSED BE WORN BY MEN. I bet no one knew that because EVERYONE IS IGNORANT AND RACIST!!!!

The issue with women wearing a war bonnet is that it is the religious equivalent of a woman parading around in the Pope's hat. Only men wear the war bonnet. Yes, most people will roll their eyes but it is disrespectful to people practicing that religion and way of life. People would be horrified if a woman paraded around in a bikina while wearing a shtreimel and prayer shawl.

I think it is harmless and cute. How on earth can this be offensive. I used to dress up like this all the time in the 70's when I was a kid..

Dear Lord can we not look at something and smile or admire something with the POLITICALLY CORRECT correct police getting their panties in a knot! For the love of peter, remove that stick up your butt and move on!

What is the problem? She got Native-American blood, for she is the granddaughter of the great Latin-American musician Pete Escovedo. Her aunt is the famous singer Sheila E, Pete's daughter. She was adopted by Lionel Richie.
