When a woman looks 'thoughtfully sad or angry for no reason,' she could be suffering from Bitchy Resting Face.

In a new skit produced by the YouTube channel, Broken People, Bitchy Resting Face is laid out as an incurable syndrome in a hilarious PSA parody that has touched a familiar female chord.

'Trust me, its worse to have a friendly-face,' wrote one commenter. 'People just think they can approach you whenever.'

Sufferer: A new spoof PSA addresses the problems experienced by women afflicted by 'Bitchy Resting Face'

BITCHY RESTING FACE

'Incurable': This woman may be happy to smell the flowers on a spring day, but her face doesn't show it

Created by Taylor Orci, a writer and comedian, and her boyfriend, Jared Nigro, a writer and performer, the YouTube channel is usually home to their web series about a dysfunctional couple and how they deal with conflict.

But Bitchy Resting Face, uploaded three weeks ago, has already received nearly 800,000 views, and has been compared to older Saturday Night Live skits. Previous uploads by Broken People have garnered between 3,000 and 8,000 views.

'It was an inside joke between me and my boyfriend Jared,' Miss Orci, 29, told MailOnline. 'Because when we met he thought I looked bitchy and I was like, "ugh this asshole" and we didn't talk for a year.

'That's why on the video he's the one that goes "I genuinely want to buy you a drink."'

Not fair: One shop assistant is unaware that her customer is a BRF sufferer and takes offense

Women who suffer from Bitchy Resting Face seem to encounter animosity whenever they go - from their own boyfriends who are resentful of the dagger-piercing look, to retail saleswomen, who are unimpressed by the seemingly rude customer they are serving.

'These women might be suffering without you even knowing it,' the video explains. 'They might just have faces that to you, look bitchy. They might not be bitches at all.'

When asked whether she has been accused of Bitchy Resting Face herself, Miss Orci, who lives in Los Angeles, exclaimed: 'Yes! One of my biggest pet peeves is people telling me I should cheer up or smile. That conjures in me like Kill Bill rage.

'I act so I can never play girl next door types cause I look too sad. Maye the girl next door is sad!'

The video, which features some of Miss Orci's friends, implores: 'If you see someone with a bad look on their face, you don't have to bother them. You can just leave them alone, it might just be their face.

'And if it is just their face, they probably already know, so theirs no need to point it out to them. They have feelings too.'

The sarcasm may be palpable, but many women have expressed how much they are able to relate to the idea behind Bitchy Resting Face.

''If there's one touching thing the commenters have helped me understand, [it's that] we're not alone!' said Miss Orci.

BITCHY RESTING FACE

Misunderstood: One BRF sufferer's boyfriend thinks her morose expression is his fault

One woman explained on the Broken People YouTube channel: 'The amount of people who come up to me and tell me to "Smile, it's not all bad," or "Hey, are you ok," and "Don't look so down," when I'm merely relaxed, annoys the s*** out of me.

'Am I angry? Well yes, I am now that you've assumed my emotions from my resting face and felt the need to body police a stranger!'

Another wrote: 'If a frown, or what appears to be a frown, feels normal, then the person has to fake smile in order to push their face muscles in a different position.

Warning: A disclaimer at the end warns that some people with Bitchy Resting Face may be actual bitches

'They have to put effort into changing their muscles by trying to smile a little. Fake smiling isn't cool or fun. People need to just stop worrying about other people's facial expressions, especially if they don't have to interact with them.'

But others were less impressed by the video, simply calling it 'an excuse for bad behavior.'

We have different expressions. Some pleasant, some not. At the end of the day, this is our face! I used to get told that I have a negative face, unfriendly face, sullen face...Do you know what it does to someone to hear this all the time? What is the obsession with walking around like a cheshire cat? Leave people alone. Even if someone's face looks scrunched up, try talking to them. Start with "Hello". And you may find that their personality does not match their face. Time to grow up people.

I see photos of myself (ones I am unaware are being taken) and I look slightly cross or worse. I'm usually not- I'm just thinking, or busy or bored stupid. Also I don't do the big American-style fake smile thing.

i have tried to explain this to people for years, i could be walking around happy as larry and some one will ask whats wrong or to actually put a smile on my face. i thought it was my fat cheeks pulling my face down then i lost the weight and my resting face is still a miserable face.
