He's met numerous pop stars over the years, with The Spice Girls, Take That and the Pussycat Dolls on his list of meetings.

But on Friday it was The Saturdays' turn to be greeted by Prince Charles.

The girl group giggled as they each took a turn to shake his hand during a visit to a Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice in Solihull.

The fivesome of course dressed to impress as they usually do, but even more so to become acquainted with royalty.

Rochelle, who recently returned to the group after coming off her maternity leave, wore a black frock with a yellow blazer over the top.

And she was clearly delighted to meet him as she wrote on her Twitter page following the event: 'Today I met Prince Charles....just another day at the office...'

Did one tell a joke? Prince Charles looked equally as happy to meet the pop stars as they crowded round him for a chat and a giggle

All dressed up: The girls are known for their scantily clad stage outfits but all dressed appropriately in pretty frocks for the occasion

Before then adding: '@TheSaturdays: What a brilliant and inspiring morning. So much respect to @mariecurieuk and their nurses" Such amazing work xxx.'

Frankie who is currently pregnant meanwhile upped her own maternity wear as she opted for a splash of colour in a turquoise patterned dress.

Vanessa White looked more girlie than usual in a floral frock and seemed in a particularly good mood as she cracked up laughing while sharing a joke with his majesty.

Una Healy went for a blue printed dress and wore her hair back, while she brought her husband Ben Foden along for the festivities.

At one point the rugby player stood in the middle of all the girls and made them laugh with his chatter.

Mollie King completed the line-up and of course looked immaculate as she turned up in a white and gold printed shift dress.

Doing the rounds: Charles didn't only speak to The Saturdays on the day as he also greeted Staff Nurse Louise Hathaway (C) and day patient Jane Browne

Una wrote on her own Twitter page: 'Amazing morning at the official opening of the @mariecurieuk hospice centre in Solihull with HRH Prince Charles.'

The girls all seemed to get on with the Prince, who himself seemed in a jovial mood as he met the pop stars as well as the staff at the hospice.

The comments below have been moderated in advance.

With the exception of Molly, they all look kind of old and mumsy to be a girl band. In the first photo, Una looks like she 40 year old mum.

Frankie is just all sorts of huge! I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I just mean that she has sprouted out so quickly, and gained weight (which isn't doing her any harm) all over too.... either she's further along than we realise or she's carrying a lot of water!

Charles was on tour in Toronto in May 2012, I was in the medium sized crowd waiting to see him when he left the Ontario Legislature Office. He was running late for his next engagement and a car pulled up to prepare for his departure. The crowd groaned a bit and the lady next to me shouted out, "Charles, we've been waiting for you." Charles smiled and waved as his minders tried to force him into the awaiting car. Charles looked at us, the lady cheered again while Charles' aide looked at his watch and said something to him. Charles ignored the aide, gave a big smile, walked directly over to us. With great sincerity, he thanked us for waiting and shook people's hands. Everyone was thrilled, and I saw the man Charles truly is: sensitive, kind, thoughtful and compassionate. From that point on, I knew Charles will make a fine King. It's time people give him the benefit of the doubt and the chance to prove it.
