Bar, Cafe, Salon Manager Position for The Long Now Foundation

(Please read this in its entirety, there are specific instructions for submission that must be followed carefully if you are to be considered for this position.)

The Long Now Foundation is undertaking a renovation of our headquarters in San Francisco’s historic Fort Mason that will transform our public space into a bar and event space by night as well as a library, museum and cafe by day. Long Now (http://longnow.org/) was established in 01996 to creatively foster long term thinking through a series of ambitious iconic projects in the framework of the next 10,000 years. This new space is designed to be a place for gathering and conversation around this core mission.

We are currently looking for a hands-on, experienced manager for this new space who will be able to join the project as we complete construction and help us design an incredible experience. This position will work with Long Now management to create a venue that will serve our mission of fostering thoughtful discussion around long-term thinking. This is a full time position with competitive pay, and will offer a benefit package after a trial period (medical, dental and retirement).

We are looking for a creative and hardworking impresario that inspires others around them and can run a viable business. You will be responsible for gathering a fantastic team and creating a remarkable experience that fits the Long Now ideas and aesthetic. You will need to have an eye for detail and a commitment to impeccable service. You should be willing and able to work most evenings past midnight and feel comfortable both behind a bar and in the front of house.

During the day the space will be primarily a museum and library that serves artisanal coffee and tea. In the evenings we will serve a limited but carefully designed cocktail menu and host a series of internally and externally programmed intellectual salon events. Some of these events will be partnerships with other organizations and some will act as a more impromptu and intimate version of our Seminars About Long-term Thinking (http://longnow.org/seminars/).

The candidate for this position should feel ownership and pride over the whole experience and as such your responsibilities will be comprehensive. Examples of some of these responsibilities include sourcing of unique menu items, managing the physical space, social media, employees, supplies, schedules, organizing security, and more.

Please email a short write up about your interest in this position and include your resume and related experience in the body of the email. ATTACHMENTS WILL NOT BE OPENED. Send your email to jobs@longnow.org

We look forward to hearing from you.
