The Blackhawks' Patrick Kane brought the Stanley Cup and his Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup playoffs, to New York on Wednesday for a taping of "The Late Show with David Letterman."

On Thursday, Kane and his teammates met the media at the United Center, reflected on their achievements and looked at what lies ahead.

Winger Marian Hossa said he might need back surgery, and winger Viktor Stalberg sounded like he'd rather play elsewhere next season. Some highlights of what they said, via the Tribune's Chris Kuc:

*General manager Stan Bowman said no trades are imminent. "I never rule anything out."

*Steve Montador and Rostislav Olesz will be placed on waivers and if not claimed will be bought out

* Bowman on a contract extension for Joel Quennevile: "We want to keep Joel. He's done a tremendous job leading the team."

*Quenneville on two goals in 17 seconds in Game 6: "Didn't see that one coming. Who knows what would have happened last night (in a Game 7)?"

*Winger Marian Hossa on his injured back: "I may need surgery or another shot."

*Quenneville said Andrew Shaw was playing with a broken rib. Johnny Oduya was also hurt.

*Unrestricted free agent goaltender Ray Emery said he would like to return, while winger Jamal Mayers said he would decide in a couple of weeks.

*Unrestricted free-agent winger Bryan Bickell said he would take a hometown discount to stay and didn't rule out surgery on his right knee.

*Center Dave Bolland was playing through wrist and groin injuries during postseason.

*Listening to Viktor Stalberg, it doesn't sound like he'll be re-signing. Believes he deserves more consistent minutes.

*Center Michal Handzus, an unrestricted free agent: "I love it here and want to stay."

*Goaltender Corey Crawford still seems stunned at winning the Cup: "It's a dream."

As for the Letterman show: Here's a clip of a clean-shaven Kane talking about taking the Cup around Chicago, making another appearance at a Jimmy Buffett concert and then getting a tad soaked.

Letterman: “Now explain to me – and it’s impossible but try -- the symbolism of the Stanley Cup and the tangible, the actual Stanley Cup. Tell us about the lore and the myth and the legend of those two things. As a symbol, what does that mean?”

Kane: “It’s unbelievable ... You know, we’ve been, you know, parading around Chicago the past couple nights, and wherever that thing is, people tend to want be there and to be around it. It’s what we believe to be the coolest trophy in sports. It’s, you know, unbelievable to look at. I mean, it feels like, you know, you’re lifting 35 pounds, but it feels like nothing when you’re lifting it, especially on the ice after winning.”

Letterman: “And every man on the team gets it for a while, and you get to do whatever you want with it. Is that true? What are you going to do with it?”

Kane: “Yeah, I’m not sure yet. Last time [in 2010], I did some pretty cool things, you know, charity things, you know, kind of paraded around the city of Buffalo. I had it for a day in Chicago, took it to the Jimmy Buffett concert…” (audience laughs)

Letterman: “Nice you could get a date.” (audience, Kane laugh)

Kane: “It’s actually coming up Saturday in Chicago, the Buffett concert, so might have to make a return.”

Letterman: “But there are other things people do with the Cup.” (audience laughs)

Kane: “Like?”

Letterman: “You know, just stuff. You know what I mean? There’s another category of activity.”

Kane: “There’s a lot of stuff that probably doesn’t need to be said on the show…” (audience laughs)
