Shameless Plug: "Well Regulated"

So to recap the Brady Campaign, VPC and ACLU positions, the Framers included the words "“well regulated"” in an amendment stating the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed so that government could impose "common sense regulations."” These would include laws to deny the keeping and bearing of arms, especially since only government agents were intended to be empowered by the Bill of Rights in the first place.
"Well Regulated" is my Rights Watch column for the September 2006 issue of GUNS Magazine, on sale now at trained and disciplined newsstands throughout the Republic.

In Defense of Lon Horiuchi

For any of you who read this garbage and who don't know what to think let me just tell you that Lon and the people he has served with and the members of HRT are among the hardest working and most patriotic people you will ever have the priviledge to know. Anyone who says differently is an anti-government right (or left) wing nut job.
This comment was just added to an old blog entry. Naturally, the poster is "anonymous." There's really no way to tell if he's Lon's friend or relative, a former colleague with "inside information," or merely a troll out to start something.

We're the Only Ones Throttling Toddlers Enough

A Philadelphia School District police officer...grabbed a 3-year-old boy by the throat after the child accidentally squirted his car with a water gun on 17th and Tasker.

Police said Bradley threw the boy to the ground and smashed his water gun before re-entering his home and allegedly retrieving an unregistered firearm.

Neighbors said he threatened them with the .38 caliber handgun...

But after hearing, a judge threw out the most serious charges, leaving only misdemeanors.
In a rational world, a free citizenry would soon drive such abusive monsters away. And they wouldn't treat the psycho cop too kindly, either.

Return to Paradise

Mountain lions are on the prowl. Children are not safe. And the Board has decreed all humans must be disarmed.

Goodness. Trouble in Paradise. Who could have ever foreseen this?

They've also totally screwed up the gun range rules with their knee-jerk ignorance. More on that later.

We're Enslaving Ourselves More Effectively,Too, You Idiot

The weapon came into my possession right after Dariek had a bad night. Voices from his stereo speakers had kept him awake, talking to him, telling him to blow his girlfriend's brains out. He had fought valiantly to ignore the voices but feared the next time he heard them he might not be as strong.
Right, Monroe. Blame guns. And repeat bogus lies about the origins of the Second Amendment. Meanwhile, don't take steps to force your headcase brother into involuntary treatment, and leave him free to wreak whatrever havoc he wishes with boxcutters, or ammonium nitrate or gasoline.

HZ, who sent me the link to this story raises an interesting point, what with Monroe writing for an Illinois paper. Did he keep the gun and does he have an FOID? I also wonder if he lived in Illinois at the time of the transfer from an Indiana resident, and abided with the requirements of GCA '68.

We're the Only Ones With Prosecutors Tripping All Over Themselves to Give Us a Pass Enough

A federal judge in Rome on Thursday accepted the guilty plea of a former GBI agent who illegally sold 81 guns that prosecutors said had been confiscated by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office...

Officials said he did not violate his oath of office because he was not acting as an agent at the time...

Prosecutors did not indict Garmon because he agreed to expedite the process...

Prosecutors told Judge Harold L. Murphy they would seek the lightest sentence for the lawman...
Hey, why the hell not? After all, he is an "Only One."

We're the Only Ones Reflecting Professionalism Enough

Officer suspended after Cheektowaga gun-firing spree...

District Attorney Frank J. Clark believes alcohol was a factor because the women admitted they had been drinking at several bars just before they fired the weapon. Clark also was disturbed that state police did not conduct sobriety tests on the driver...

"This is an isolated incident and it should not reflect on the professionals of the Buffalo Police Department."
Oops. Let me try that again:
...the professionals of the Buffalo Police Department...

Wait, that can't be right. Here, try this:
...the professionals of the Buffalo Police Department...

Uh...hold on. OK, how about now?
...the professionals of the Buffalo Police Department...

Never mind.

What It Won't Detect are Trace Amounts of Liberty

A new "meth gun," in development by Maryland-based CDEX, enables police to use ultraviolet light to detect trace amounts of chemicals left by methamphetamines and other illegal drugs.
"They hate us because we're free."

Judging Self Defense a Crime

A judge criticized a new Kentucky law that allows people to shoot home intruders without being charged with a crime.
So I guess if you wear a black robe, the law is what you say it is, right judge?

We're the Only Ones With Reduced Charges Enough

A former Seaside Police officer pleaded guilty Thursday to receiving a stolen gun that his stepson later took to school.

Larry Raussa, 62, entered the felony plea with the understanding that the charge would be reduced to a misdemeanor when he is sentenced on Sept. 27 and that he will serve community service rather than a jail term.
Yeah, I'm sure one of us non-"Only Ones" would probably catch the same break if we did the same thing.

We're the Only Ones Frisky Enough

A Jersey City man being busted for drug distribution was shot in the foot by his own gun, which a cop dropped while frisking him, according to police reports.
Let's see, we now know the names Dayton Jackson and Michael Bell, and we know that charges include "weapons offenses."

Two questions: Who actually is guilty of a weapon offense here, and why don't we know the name of "The Only One" who committed it?

Lying Commies for Citizen Disarmament

[Last letter on page]
Last year, I was in Thailand and Vietnam. Both countries ban handguns for everyone, law enforcement included. Crime in both countries is negligible. --Mary Ellen Hallard
U.S. Department of State Consular Information Sheet--Thailand:
The far south of Thailand has been experiencing almost daily incidents of criminally and politically motivated violence, including incidents attributed to armed local separatist/extremist groups. Although these groups focus primarily on Thai government interests, some of the recent violence in the area has targeted public places, including areas where tourists may congregate. The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to defer non-emergency travel to the far south of Thailand: Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla provinces, including the town of Hat Yai. If U.S. citizens must travel to these areas, they should exercise special caution and remain vigilant with regard to their personal security. Since January 2004, a series of incidents in the far southern provinces has included arson attacks directed at schools and other buildings associated with the government; the placement of bombs in public areas, including the Hat Yai International airport, and near local government offices; killings of police and other officials; and the theft of weapons and explosives. On April 3 and 4, 2005, a series of bombs were detonated in Hat Yai and nearby Songkhla city in Songkhla Province and in Yala Province. Two American citizens were injured in these attacks. Travelers should be aware that Thai authorities have on occasion instituted special security measures in affected areas, such as curfews, military patrols, or random searches of train passengers.
U.S. Department of State Consular Information Sheet--Vietnam:
In recent years, Vietnam’s Central Highland provinces have been the scene of ethnic minority protests and clashes with security forces...Large gatherings, such as those forming at the scene of traffic accidents, can become violent, and should be avoided...

CRIME: Cities in Vietnam have the typical crime problems of many other large cities throughout the world. Pick-pocketing and other petty crimes occur regularly. Although violent crimes such as armed robbery are still relatively rare in Vietnam, perpetrators have grown increasingly bold and the U.S. Consulate General has received recent reports of knives and razors being used in attempted robberies in Ho Chi Minh City. Thieves congregate around hotels frequented by foreign tourists and business people, and assaults have been reported in outlying areas. The evolving nature of incidents warrants caution on the part of the U.S. traveler...

Serious injuries have resulted when thieves snatched purses or bags, which were strapped across their victims' bodies, leading to the victim being dragged along the ground by the thief's motorcycle...

There have been occasional reports of incidents in which an unknown substance was used to taint drinks, leaving the victim susceptible to further criminal acts...

Some U.S. citizens have reported threats of death or physical injury related to personal business disputes. The U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Consulate General do not provide personal protection services. U.S. citizens who do not have confidence in the ability of the local police to protect them may wish to depart the country expeditiously.
I guess it all depends on the meaning of the word "negligible," right you lying commie?

Domestic Enemies

These days, it’s getting harder and harder to make an honest buck selling killing machines.
We showed you what Russian and Venezuelan communists are doing about small arms, so we thought it only fair to show what their domestic counterparts at The New York Press are up to.

Marxists with machine guns are good.

Armed citizens are bad.

Depending on which side you're on, that actually makes a lot of sense.

Tovarisch!

After the firing range, Chavez headed for Izhmash weapons maker, Kalashnikov museum of small-arms weapons and had a personal meeting with Mikhail Kalashnikov, the legendary armourer of Russia. The Kalashnikov sub-machine gun is the banner of Venezuelan armed power, Chavez said after receiving an autobiographical book by Kalashnikov.
Mikhail--did you tell him how you now favor global small arms control?

Oh, it's OK, Hugo gets a pass. He's a commie, too.

We're the Only Ones Scared Straight Enough

Collective gasps were heard Wednesday as gruesome photographs of gunshot victims flashed onto a screen before dozens of teenagers and their parents.

“Y’all look. Don’t look away,” the speaker said. “This is where the fascination of guns gets you”...

Firing a gun creates a vicious cycle of revenge, Davis said, illustrating his point by saying a sibling of a gunshot victim will usually seek to even the score, which can often lead to deaths of those not involved in the initial conflict...

Guns are made to kill, Davis said, so carrying one – even if it’s to have a sense of protection – doesn’t change its purpose.
Yeah, right, Davis. We get it. You're "The Only Ones" and we're not.

Inspector Clouseau vs Indiana Sniper

Indiana State Police say virtually anybody who owns a gun would be a suspect at this point.
Compare to:
I suspect everyone and I suspect no one.
Glad to see it looks like they caught him using good old fashioned police work, that is, a tip from an informant. All you Indiana gun owners who own handguns, shotguns and any rifle that doesn't take .270 ammo can breathe a sigh of relief that you're no longer suspects.

We're the Only Ones Undisciplined Enough

Acting Austin Police Chief Cathy Ellison will not be disciplined for leaving a gun in the trunk of a city-owned car she took in for maintenance late last year...
No. No, of course not. She's an "Only One."

We're the Only Ones Automatically Supported Enough

llinois State Police trooper Gregory Mugge pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing an unregistered machine gun...

Mugge, 52, of Jerseyville, was indicted in January, along with Illinois State Police Sgt. James Vest, 39, of O'Fallon, and John Yard, 36, an Illinois State Police special agent...

In February, a group of 12 local police chiefs and sheriffs, and two state senators...endorsed a letter of support for the three state troopers.
Yeah, I'm sure had it been some of us mere citizens instead of "The Only Ones," the Illinois law enforcement/political establishment would have been tripping all over themselves to recommend leniency.

We're the Only Ones Taking a Shot at Marriage Enough

The wife of a Morgan County sheriff's deputy was wounded in what appeared to be an accidental shooting with the deputy's gun...Neither her name nor the deputy's name was released.

We're the Only Ones Seasoned Enough

Three Hixton families have filed a complaint with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department against a deputy, claiming that he pepper sprayed four kids and two adults riding on a float during an Independence Day parade.
Leave it to "The Only Ones" to spice up an event intended to celebrate sovereign individual liberty.

Someone's Been Googling Their Name

However, I will remind you that the founding fathers possessed weapons that could, but the best infantry in the world at the time (the British) only be fired between 3 and 5 times a minute. Do you know what the modern automatic machine gun can do. Times change Mr. Quammen, and with them the rules and yes rights too must also change. The founding fathers ment to protect the people from their creation (the federal government) not set them as prey to their fellow citizens.
Just a guess, but I'd say Jori S. Byrne-Diakun (who's "not a she") picked the wrong guy to give a lesson in founding intent to...

And yeah, Jori, I'd say we have a fair understanding of "modern automatic machine guns," at least to know we haven't been able to (legally) get 'em since '86, that they were never part of the '94 federal ban, and that the only people who suggest they are used for hunting are those who don't know any better and those who wish to exploit that ignorance.

We're the Only Ones "Armed" and Dangerous Enough

A Missouri State Highway Patrol commander is recovering after shooting himself in the arm with a pistol...

"Every once in a while, something like this happens...It's unfortunate, but it's one of those things. That's why guns are dangerous."
With a bit more training, you might realize that incompetent gun handling is what's dangerous.

But what do I know? I'm not an "Only One."

[Thanks to Fourteen Alpha]

And If He Says "No?"

At the end of June, Pearce dropped by the house, asking my husband if he knew of my plans and if he approved.

Initially, I'm horrified. What if we had a bad marriage, and I wanted the gun for self-protection? Why should he get to overrule my decision?

Kim Gandy, the president of the National Organization for Women, sees it differently. It's never wise to bring firepower into an abusive household, she says. And if New Jersey's law requires spousal notification, victims get time to prepare - or leave.
So that's the official word from the nation's leading "feminist" organization? If a woman wants a gun she needs to get her husband's permission?

You've come a long way, baby!

Now get me another beer.

Stick to Football, Coach

"I think we need to leave those issues to this - dial 911 and get the people that are trained to handle those things," Coker said Monday during the 2006 ACC Football Kickoff event. "I really don't want our players to have firearms."

Ted's Bridge to the Police State

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) charges a Republican-backed amendment that prohibits the confiscation of guns during an emergency puts police officers and first responders in danger.
Of course, no one will confiscate the guns of this loathsome parasite's taxpayer-funded bodyguards.

Kids and Guns: Now and Then

Now:
"Children will pick up a gun if they find it. They can't help themselves, it's what they do. They're curious, and it's your job to make sure their curiosity doesn't hurt them," project representative Linda Corrow said.

And Then:
Know your gun. Know your ammo. Be sure of your backstop. Be sure of your target.

"No one ever got hurt because of the strict discipline," Catalano said. "At the very beginning, Ed Schrop wouldn't even let you touch a gun. It was this way -- or out."

Before long, the boys knew how to clean rifles, take them apart and put them back together.
Linda or Ed...avoidance or education...

Gee, picking a properly qualified firearms authority for young people to listen to sure is difficult...

Mike Freeman Murky on Logic

All that is to say that I'm no stranger to firearms and their use for recreation and hunting. I believe that experience qualifies me to comment on the Second Amendment as it's observed and misused today.
Yeah, I'd say experience with recreational activities makes you a Constitutional scholar, Mike.

Kind of an ironic last name...

Feeling Sheepish

The former mayor of West Lake Hills, caught at Austin Bergstrom International Airport packing a gun, is feeling mighty sheepish tonight.
Judging from his reaction, I'd say you couldn't pick a more appropriate adjective.

It's In the Cards

The boycott card idea for anti-gun businesses has generated a lot more interest and support than I expected. Here are the places now hosting the Word file:

I originally posted it on Rapid Share, as described here.

Commentator Gattsuru posted it here.

Void Where Prohibited posted it here.

Jay.Mac posted it here, and also gave it a nice write-up.

Ditto for Jed, who posted it and added his own observations.

As I said from the start, this concept is not mine--I merely modified an idea being promoted for some time by groups like Ohioans for Concealed Carry. But it's a good idea, and ought to be used, so feel free to modify the cards and make them appropriate for your area (for instance, I can see a real use for one warning gun owners that "Only Schmucks Shop at Schnucks," etc.

If I left anyone out, drop me a note--and if you create your own version of the card, let me know that as well.

We're the Only Ones Dogged Enough

Canadian Collectors Don't Want THEIR Ox Gored

“Canadians packed guns until the 1950s, when I was a kid,” he said. “People viewed it as a bit of self-reliance, whereas now there’s a feeling that the state will take care of us.”

Getting guns off the streets and out of the hands of criminals is one thing. Taking firearms out of circulation that have significant historical value is quite another, say Kangas and other gun enthusiasts.
Well, you started out just fine and then you blew it.

This business of pitting one set of gun owners against another plays right into the hands of those who will ban them all--as if your current predicament shouldn't prove that beyond all question.

I guess getting criminals off the streets is too difficult a concept to grasp, eh?

Jamaican Ingenuity Threatens US Gun Exports

Overkill

These increasingly frequent raids, 40,000 per year by one estimate, are needlessly subjecting nonviolent drug offenders, bystanders, and wrongly targeted civilians to the terror of having their homes invaded while they’re sleeping, usually by teams of heavily armed paramilitary units dressed not as police officers but as soldiers.

Baseline Killer to Surrender?

It's just too dangerous to serial kill in Phoenix these days. After all:

As Jason M, who sent me this link, notes:
It amazes me that no one says "I keep my S&W; .357 Magnum close." Or they may have...the reporter didn't include any statements on using guns for self-defense.
Please, Jason, not "reporter."

Survival Tip: Carry a Gun

The answer is that my love of fly-fishing and exploring solo hasn't changed, but the way I protect myself has. I just took shooting lessons and recently purchased a .38 caliber Ruger revolver that I plan to carry with me.
Some might quibble over caliber, but the important thing here is she gets it.

And the Eloi Award Goes to...

The woman found a .38-caliber revolver on the ground behind a garbage can, in a spot where anyone could have grabbed it, reports said.

"I was in shock," she said. "I don't like guns, I'm scared of guns."
Who better to vote for politicians intent on disarming those of us who aren't?

We're the Only Ones. Not You. Us.

A knife-wielding grocery store employee attacked eight co-workers Friday, seriously injuring five before a witness pulled a gun and stopped him, police said.
Let's see...knife-wielding maniac, everybody being victimized, no cops around, what will stop this guy...?

Not resisting? Nope.

Giving him what he wants? Uh, I think he's showing us what he wants.

A hoplophobe? Sorry.

An armed citizen? Bingo!

Lesson here for all to see? A moral person with a gun can not only defend themselves, but also those around them.

"Sour grapes" reaction from "The Only Ones"?
Higgins said police were pulling into the parking lot as Cope was confronting the attacker.

"We commend him," Higgins said. "But we don't encourage people to take that kind of risk. He could have been hurt."
What kind of risk does Higgins recommend people take? Waiting around for them to respond doesn't have risks?

And note the armed citizen resolved this without firing a shot--that is, rather than a gun in private hands being used to kill, here's a real world example of a citizen using a handgun to restore the peace and save lives--both of the victim and the attacker.

We're the Only Ones Able to Defend Ourselves

A city cop coming off his shift in the Bronx early yesterday shot and wounded a man who tried to carjack him at gunpoint, police said.

"Cop Killer"

Three men have been charged with illegally possessing two handguns, one of which is called a cop killer because it can break through most bulletproof vests and plates worn by police officers...
Oh, OK, that's why they call it that.

It's not like it's actually gone out and killed cops or anything.

I didn't realize I owned cop killer rifles, because they'll all do that, too. Go through vests and plates, that is.

Later on today, I think I'll take my cop crushing van down to the store. I need to buy some cop poisoning household cleaning products.

Sterile Queen Bee Follow-Up

Again, for the record, I own lots of guns; I've hunted all my life (which is a long time); and I believe the Second Amendment is one of our basic freedoms we enjoy here in America, but I don't fret about the federal government breaking down my door to confiscate my battle worn 870 or my late grandfather's octagon-barrel 30-30, nor do I think all gun control laws, such as the ban on automatic assault rifles, are bad. Given that, here are a few thoughts on the NRA.
We've talked about this creature and his idiotic opinions before.

He either doesn't want to get it, or else he knows perfectly well what he's doing. I opt for the latter.

The point, Bill, is not to defend NRA. The point is, AHSA is an organization headed up by known gungrabbers. And for you to cite "automatic assault weapons" and "Gun Guys" to make your points puts you solidly in that camp as well.

US Guns Killing Jamaicans Follow-Up

No Guns, No Money Follow-Up

IMPORTANT: READ INSTRUCTIONS BELOW BEFORE CLICKING ON TITLE LINK

I posted yesterday about Kansas businesses being advised to post "No Guns" signs, and presented a "business card" to notify such establishments that gun owners would take their dollars elsewhere.

Jay.Mac informs me of Rapid Share, a hosting service website, and following the title link should get you to the Word file card template I created, albeit for non-paying users, they make you go through a few advertising steps before letting you see the file.

Steps after clicking on title link:
1. Scroll down to bottom of page and click "Free" button.
2. Wait for "download ticket" countdown, which on completion, will present a "Captcha" form.
3. Enter the characters in the little box and click on "Download from Mirror Alpha." (The characters are sometimes tough to distinguish, so if you get it wrong, back out and try again.)
4. A dialog box should pop up. Choose "Open With" (Microsoft Word or whatever you choose) or "Save to Disk."

Others have kindly offered to host the file on their sites. Thank you for that, especially since Rapid Share deletes non-paying files after 30 days. Please feel free to do so--and to modify the cards as you see fit. As I noted, the original idea is not mine, but the goal should be to promote the concept.

If you have a website, let me know if you post your own card and I'll pass your link on to WoG visitors.

For the "Children"

A newly issued report on the impact of gun violence on children shows that 131 children were killed by firearms in New York state in 2003, bringing the state up to the fourth ranking in gun-related deaths behind California, Texas and Illinois.

In New York City, 62 children under age 20 died by gunfire...
Hey, the Childrens Defense Fund said it, I believe it, that settles it. Why, the very thought that someone would deliberately confuse adolescent male thugs with Sally, Dick and Jane is...is...hey, that's not a bad idea...

Hell of a job "reporting," John Toscano. I've always admired the way you "authorized journalists" manage to keep bias and editorial content out of straight news.
