• Developed one of the first commercial USB 2.0 protocol stacks and associated device drivers for SCO OpenServer and UnixWare product lines. Supported USB 2.0 EHCI host controllers with fall back support to USB 1.1 for non-high speed USB devices.
• Created a break through disk and tape encryption product to permit real-time encryption of data going to and from disks and tapes.  By using externally associated encryption information, tapes or disks could be remotely "disabled" by destroying the security information required to decrypt the data in the event of theft or loss.  STG developed in-kernel disk and tape encryption filters supporting both software and hardware encryption capabilities, interfaces to external security key management appliances, and system management, control, and recovery processes.  Developed specifically to support Sun's Solaris operating system, the code was developed in a modular manner to support easy future porting to other systems.
• Ported 32-bit compatible Windows kernel-mode device drivers to 64-bit Windows. In one instance, this included adapting existing device drivers providing remote control capabilities for a product running on the 32-bit IA32 versions of Windows. These device drivers were ported to both IA64 and AMD64 platforms, and the code tree was modified to build the binaries for the different platforms from a single set of source code. The device drivers were then tested under Windows XP 2003 64-bit.
• Developed USB 2.0 compliant embedded firmware and associated device drivers for Windows XP and 2000 supporting a range of proprietary measurement instruments. The device drivers used high-speed isochronous transfers for data communication with the devices as well as bulk transfers. Support for the full set devices in the product range was accommodated via driver-uploaded firmware and hardware control settings. The main goals for this device and driver family was towards high throughput, low latency, and low host CPU utilization.
• Updated a legacy-style keyboard and mouse filter driver to comply with the latest WDM driver standards. The original device driver intercepted only a single instance of a keyboard and a mouse. The ported driver intercepts any number of input devices. The updated driver also provides an interface to both insert keyboard and mouse data into the input data stream, and to suppress data coming from keyboards and mice attached to the system allowing an external application to control the keyboard and mice data passed on by the driver.
• Developed a touchscreen mouse device driver for a custom handheld computing device for use under Windows 2000/XP. An existing Windows 98 D device driver was reverse engineered and an equivalent Windows 2000/XP driver, a touchscreen calibration utility, and a installation procedure to allow unattended installation at initial system load time were developed.
• Developed a set of Windows 2000/XP device drivers for family of DeviceNet/CAN bus networking cards in both PCI and PCMCIA form factors. A CAN bus sniffer was developed which allowed a user to monitor activity on the CAN bus in real time. All traffic was timestamped as it was captured and could be saved to disk for later analysis. In addition to displaying all the traffic on the bus, traffic could be filtered based only on specific CAN IDs to limit the number of packets displayed.
• Developed WinCE device drivers and application layer software for monitoring and controlling inventory devices in a retail warehouse application. The software included a proprietary protocol stack which communicated with a family of merchandise handling devices in order to monitor their operation and configure their actions and responses. The implementation was done on a WinCE handheld using a proprietary interface card.
• Developed a Windows XP-based video mirroring device driver to enhance and extend a proprietary customer service application to permit monitoring and recording of screen activity.  By providing an API to the underlying mirroring functionality, the application could control the collection and management of video information for storage and future playback as needed.
• Developed device drivers to read and extract SPD data from SDRAM modules resident in both PC and Macintosh systems. Support included identifying SDRAM module characteristics plus determining whether or not the SPD data EEPROM was write protected by the memory module vendor. Platforms supported included Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, and XP in addition to MacOS 8, 9, and X on the full range of Apple SDRAM supporting hardware. On x86 PCs, the SPD data was extracted via direct SMBus access with support included for over two dozen of the most popular Southbridge chipsets and their variants. On Apple PowerMacintosh hardware, over 32 machine models are supported.
• Updated existing Linux device drivers for Comtrol RocketPort boards to include support for updated controller chips and support for the Universal PCI standard. The device driver was modified in such a way that it could auto-detect updated and legacy boards and handle both correctly from within a single driver.
• Developed a STREAMS-based driver and user-level API for Solaris to allow external control over inbound and outbound IP traffic, to be used in implementing several wired and wireless network security applications. This software provides a framework for other in-kernel modules or user applications to inspect and possibly modify IP packets traveling to or from the Solaris host.
• Implemented a mirror video driver for Windows 2000 and XP to permit remote display and access to a complete Windows desktop over a network connection. This device driver worked together with the resident local video driver to capture and duplicate video operations on a remote display system.
• Developed a FreeBSD 5.0 port driver for a laptop style device. The driver is notified of ACPI events and in turn notifies a user process that the event has occurred. The user process consisted of an X11 application which displayed the current state of events in the system. Volume, Brightness Level, Internal Pointer Status, and other values were monitored, updated and displayed to the user in real time to provide the capability to track ACPI events remotely.
• Developed a device driver for a network based serial port concentrator that would work in the INTime RTOS environment. This device driver enabled the serial port concentrator to work with Steeplechase Visual Logic Controller (VLC) software commonly used in factory automation applications.
• Developed custom Windows NT, 2000, and XP mouse drivers for using the VNC (Virtual Network Computing) remote display system in conjunction with VMware Workstation. This corrects the problem where the Windows cursor and the VNC cursor get out of sync. This device driver integrates more closely into the Windows/VMware combination and eliminates this problem.
• Added USB 2.0 protocol support as well as device drivers for EHCI USB controllers to an existing USB stack already supporting the USB 1.1 protocol.
• Developed device drivers to support EAPOL (802.1X-2001) for Windows operating system releases not providing native EAPOL support. These device drivers were tested with a variety of different OEM wireless adapters and access points (including Cisco, Agere, Lucent, and others) and then incorporated into a client application that performed authentication with a RADIUS server via a several user configurable authentication protocols.
• Developed a USB 1.1 protocol stack and class drivers for keyboards, mice, and mass storage devices for a major UNIX OEM. The underlying USB architecture was built using the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) technology to meet both portability and high performance goals. This effort included USB device driver development with support for UHCI and OHCI hardware interfaces. In addition to UNIX support, the final stack and drivers were ported to Linux port forming an integral part of a shipping Linux implementation.
• Ported an existing Windows 9x/NT remote control video display driver to be compatible with the mirror display driver capability under Windows XP. Modified an existing remote control wire protocol to handle the new functionality presented by GDI in Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
• Implemented a reference LAN over WAN adapter NDIS driver for Windows 2000 and XP. This driver was developed to be used as a Windows driver reference and example for developers creating WAN drivers and to demonstrate NDIS development concepts. The driver will be available as part of a future Microsoft Windows DDK release.
• Implemented NDIS drivers to support tunneling functionality for Mobile IP support. Created NDIS intermediate and miniport drivers with user API functions for Windows XP and Windows 2000 platforms.
• Created a customized GUI and packaging for a wireless Windows-based LAN/Modem product family to suit the needs of specific European OEMs. The customization was handled by developing a separate DLL to support generating additional OEM-specific product versions with minimal effort and without modifications to the base product code.
• Ported a network bandwidth management application and corresponding device drivers from x86 Linux to Solaris 7 for both Intel and SPARC platforms. This included the in-kernel device driver which measured and managed network bandwidth usage as well as user level management and control applications.
• Developed a printer system Rendering Plug-In allowed us to preserve both the positioning of the text (by keeping the columns and rows aligned regardless of font style or size) and the integrity of the data (by preventing omissions and truncations) to enhance the Generic Text printer driver. The Rendering Plug-In was designed to work under Windows NT4 (with Service Pack 4 or higher), Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
  
  This has recently been productized and is available for general distribution and licensing for both single seat, multiple seat, and OEM applications. For more details and sample output, see the TextPrint page.
• Modified and validated an intelligent terminal server driver for correct and efficient multiprocessor operation under FreeBSD/BSDi 3.x.
• Extended a wireless Windows-based LAN/Modem product to include support for Windows XP and HomeRF 2.0. Work was based on an earlier Windows 2000 port performed by STG with specific changes for Windows XP and additional wireless device support. This resulted in a single merged version of the product supporting all existing environments and devices plus Windows XP and HomeRF 2.0. The merged code includes applications for installation, configuration, and management of wireless Ethernet adapters and gateways. In addition, debugging of NDIS miniport and protocol drivers using WinDbg was performed and modifications were made as needed.
• Created device drivers for a family of high speed WAN interface cards for Solaris 7 and 8 on both the SPARC and Intel platforms plus FreeBSD (using the Netgraph interface). This included support for media such as V.35, T-1, and others.
• Designed and implemented the controlling software for a medical data acquisition card under Solaris 8. Developed and tested the PCI device driver, the control API, and device specific utility applications.
• As part of our participation in Project UDI<, STG developed and maintains the Linux reference implementation of the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) environment for the Redhat, Caldera, Suse and other Linux distributions on Intel, PowerPC, SPARC, and Alpha hardware platforms providing support for both single processor and multiprocessor hardware platforms.

• Debugged and performance tuned in kernel software modules implementing the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) for a major UNIX OEM.
• Developed a USB bar code scanner driver and supporting Windows application for a major retailing systems integrator to support simplified ordering of "multi-optioned" products based on UPC IDs. The system communicates with a back end web-based interface into an existing retail ordering and replenishment system. The application supports multiple simultaneous users and multiple product suppliers. The Windows GUI was supports multiple languages as well as and localization.
• Developed AIX device drivers for a series of PCI-based intelligent encryption coprocessors for use in SMP systems.
• Developed Solaris device drivers for a family of ISA and PCI based serial communication controllers.
• Created UDI-based software drivers for networking applications including the 3Com 3C90x family.
• Developed Windows 95 and Windows 98 device drivers for network based serial communication controllers.
• Developed AIX device drivers for a series of intelligent encryption/decryption coprocessors for both uniprocessor and multiprocessor systems.
• Created PCI and ISA device drivers for WinNT, Linux, and UNIX for a variety of networking cards and devices.
• Development of UNIX printer drivers for a major manufacturer of laser printers. These device drivers eventually covered four distinct product lines supporting over twenty individual printer models on six different UNIX operating systems.
• Development of device drivers and SNMP support for a manufacturer of intelligent, PC-based networking hubs in a Solaris x86 operating system environment.
• Development of a family of UNIX device drivers for a manufacturer of IBM channel connection devices. These device drivers provide very high data rate TCP/IP transfers between IBM mainframes and UNIX servers for Sun Solaris and HP-UX systems. A modular design permits flexible support for a variety of applications and easy extension to new UNIX platforms.
• Development of a WAV driver for Windows for an ATM-based telephony system using custom hardware.
