He works mainly in developing countries where the dominant computer is the cellphone, and the dominant network protocol is SMS, a phenomenon that he calls "the invisible computer revolution."
Dr. Joel Selanikio is the co-founder of the DataDyne Group, and the Director of the open-source EpiSurveyor project. A pediatrician, former Wall Street computer consultant, and former CDC epidemiologist, he has a passion for combining computer science and public health to address health inequities in developing countries, and is a pioneer in the promotion of open-source development for public health.
