5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic laptop
I chose to buy a Samsung laptop because I'm a touch typist and I found their keyboards are the easiest to use as far as laptops go! I also hate touchpads but found the texture of the Samsung not too shiny/slidy, but also without the horrible dimples which made my fingertips sore!

I absolutely love this computer. Part of the bonus is Windows 8 - initially I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Had better
The graphics are really clear and the colours are excellent. The problem is the buttons don't always seem to register when you've touched them and the bar at the side takes a while to go "grey" before you can move onto another part of the screen. It takes a bit of getting use to. I also don't like the fact that it seem to "snap" shut when you close it...

I wished I'd looked at one in person before just buying it online as I'd probably have gone for something else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware Samsung and windows 8, 17 Jan 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung 355V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (AMD A6 4400M 2.7GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8) (Personal Computers)
Samsung Lap Tops
A year of saving for a laptop for my daughter.
We all finally decided on a Samsung as we thought they were a reputable company.
We ordered from Amazon, who have been brilliant all the way through this.
The first laptop had a faulty web cam that barely worked. Amazon told us they would replace it immediately, which they did.
The second lap top arrived a week later. After about a week of using it the problems started. It began to close itself down for no reason. This got continually worse until it would not open up for more than a minute. I tried Samsung support on line, and was told that there was a software conflict, i later found out the the pre installed norton anti virus is conflicting with windows 8. After three attempts to try to fix it on line with the computer closing down the only solution was to call Samsung. So i looked on line for Samsung Greece, all the listed telephone numbers were unattainable! so i called the UK office and was given another number for Greece Samsung , also unattainable!
After recalling Samsung UK and trying to fix the computer from there i was told that it had to be returned.
I contacted Amazon, who again were fantastic! the lap top was sent back the day after.
Today i received a call from Samsung to say that they did not recognize my proof of purchase and cannot authorize the return of the laptop!!!
Not only have i had to return my daughter's Christmas present twice, so now she is again without a Christmas present. Now it looks as though Samsung is trying to get away without refunding the money. We saved all year for this.
They have not apologized in anyway for the problems, what sort of company is this?Samsung 355V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (AMD A6 4400M 2.7GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic laptop, 25 May 2013

I chose to buy a Samsung laptop because I'm a touch typist and I found their keyboards are the easiest to use as far as laptops go! I also hate touchpads but found the texture of the Samsung not too shiny/slidy, but also without the horrible dimples which made my fingertips sore!

I absolutely love this computer. Part of the bonus is Windows 8 - initially I felt completely useless as I didn't even know how to close a program! But Youtube came to the rescue and I got the basics, and having given it a go I am so into it. Initially I thought Windows 8 would only work with touch screens but you pay more for having a touchscreen than you would a laptop with a higher spec otherwise (like this one!) After a bit of research I realised that touch screen laptops aren't that comfortable re ergonomics of leaning forward, and given a bit of a play, it is easy to get around Windows 8. But this isn't a review of that! (Although initially I looked to avoid buying a laptop with Windows 8 so would have missed this one, but soon changed my mind so that I specifically DID look for a laptop with Windows 8.) Samsung programs built in and the easy PC set up is really good, and I know my way around a computer pretty well but I'm not overly technical.

One draw back was I seemed to have somehow knocked off the Ethernet receiver built into this laptop! When I turned the laptop on for initial set up it was brilliant! Everything worked. But after playing around to link my phone to this by Bluetooth, my internet stopped working - Ethernet and wifi! My brother's very technical and between us we realised that the internal internet device had been disabled and we couldn't enable it. I was desperately hoping nothing was wrong with this as I really didn't want to send it back, and after resetting it to factory settings and getting it going again, everything was fine and has been fine since... But just a word of warning, as my brother said - it shouldn't be that easy to accidentally disable the internet system.

Otherwise, this laptop is brilliant! I love the fact it has a numbered keypad which makes spreadsheet and other number input much more useful. It looks incredibly stylish and is so fast to power up. The battery is awesome.

However, this is coming from someone who only owned a laptop once - one bought second hand 9 years ago! So I am comparing this to a relic, for those who regularly upgrade laptops and look for the greatest each month. But this is also coming from someone who regularly uses desktop PCs and normally much prefers them... this laptop has swayed me to rate laptops very favourably now!

Fantastic laptop, very fast and the video quality it produces is excellent.
Most people that seem to dislike this laptop are more concerned with windows 8 than the laptop itself. I'll admit windows 8 is a little bit tricky to begin with but once you get used to it, its fine.
I also found this laptop with windows 7 on Amazon (no longer available) and overall from the reviews it was 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend this laptop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad laptop., 3 Dec 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)

I've been using a Dell Notebook for the last year and outgrew it. So, I bought the Samsung 355V5C and I just love it. It is so much quicker with 6GB of Ram. No freezing of webpages anymore. All my work gets done quite easily now. Watch out for the Samsung bloatware called s.agent, it's a nuisance and the only way to disable it is to go to the task scheduler and disable it...Windows 8 is excellent when you have downloaded Classic shell from sourceforge.net
An all round good laptop and is quite quick.

Above is the early stages of what I come across with the laptop. Since then I have had the unfortunate experience of contacting Samsung for problems with the DVD drive searching every few minutes. I got an email back from them saying "Useless" emails about DVD drive. I don't care for a company that thinks my emails are useless. Needless to say I won't purchase anything from Samsung again as they don't have the right "attitude"

2.0 out of 5 stars Computer failed after 1 day, 9 Aug 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung 355V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (AMD A6 4400M 2.7GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8) (Personal Computers)
The computer stopped completely. Fortunately I have a good knowlege of computers having worked with them since 1955. I managed to re-install the operating system and reset everything that I had installed.

I do not like the preinstalled anti-virus. It is not the best but is high in cost. Microsoft Securities is free and offers an excellent level of protection. There is also far to great a number of apps preset on the start page.

All in all it takes far to long to set this computer up for serious work. As a teenage game machine it may be great, once cleaned and reset it does make a fair bisness machine. However, be prepared to spend a full day or two to get to this level.

If you buy this computer for serious work, be prepared to spend days setting it up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Samsung NP355V5C Laptops, 20 Jan 2013
By
This review is from: Samsung 355V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (AMD A6 4400M 2.7GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8) (Personal Computers)
Generally the Laptop is what you would expect at this price.

My 1 star rating is due to the appalling customer support that Samsung provides. I have emailed their customer support numerous times asking for help with a piece of software that fails every time the laptop starts. The software is Samsung Marker and I have asked them many times what this software does, and how to correct the failure.

Every time they answer with the same stock answer which is to restore the laptop, meaning the loss of all my software and documents, which would also then need to all be restored. I did this the first time but it made no difference. A quick trawl of the internet shows that many others are suffering with the same problem with the same lack of response from Samsung, obviously a defect they don't want to acknowledge.

The most annoying part of their support is that it is impossible to respond to their response but customers have to set up a completely new request for help, even if you have gone to the bother of registering on their site along with registering the laptop. Their customer survey pages do not work, their customer satisfaction link in their responses don't work, so I guess they think they are doing well as they don't get any negative feedback.

My advice would be to not buy a Samsung laptop because if you ever need any help, Samsung won't be bothered or interested.

1.0 out of 5 stars Noisy, slow, keep having to activate Windows, 10 Dec 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung 355V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (AMD A6 4400M 2.7GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8) (Personal Computers)
Was fast until I loaded software into it. Very slow now. In fact, it's slower than my 6 year old Dell laptop running Windows 7 which this was supposed to replace.

Google Chrome doesn't work properly. Seems to be isolated to Samsung preinstalled software. Works much better now I've removed Samsung software update, but not perfectly.
Forums confirm Samsung problem, not Chrome. Chrome sometimes renders pages before assets are loaded. Flash doesn't work.

Arrived with slight dent just above the keyboard.

Asks to validate Windows every week - but can't connect!

External monitor port has no screws so falls out.

Using 2 fingers to scroll horizontally on the mouse pad scrolls in wrong direction. No option to configure the direction. Samsung support isn't good. Told me to find 3rd party solution, after telling me to look in the control panel.

Fan is VERY noisy.
Further it stops and starts all the time which is even more annoying. Consistent noise can be ignored, but not this irregular noise. There's an option to 'reduce' this fan usage but surely wouldn't this cause the machine to overheat? Besides, this option when 'off' strangely increases the fan usage.

Mousepad on keyboard too far to the left, so if you have big hands it's very awkward to use. Cursor keys too small.

Very difficult to boot from USB via BIOS. Can't duel boot Windows 8 & Ubuntu without changing BIOS.

Still it was cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Notebook for a great price, 16 Jan 2013
This review is from: Samsung 355V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (AMD A6 4400M 2.7GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8) (Personal Computers)
Most of the other reviews are giving this laptop a low rating due to the reviewer not liking Windows 8.
Such comments apply to every current PC. So I will try and comment on the laptop itself.

It is a well made, lightweight, attractive laptop. Good keyboard with a numerical keypad. The screen is very sharp and clear with strong colour reproduction and even backlighting. In average use I am getting between 3 and 4 hours battery life between charges.

Technically the AMD A6 processor lags behind the Intel i3 and I5s, but you do not notice this in real world usage.
The AMD graphics chip is also slightly faster than the Intel HD4000. Generally this computer starts up and shuts down quickly, web browsing is smooth and general office programs are very useable.

Overall it is much faster and lighter than my old laptop and the screen is better quality. I got this laptop from Three as a retention deal on my mobile broadband, the cost works out exactly the same as the Amazon price over 24 months. To be honest I am delighted with the hardware for the price paid and think this is another quality Samsung product.
