JAN KEES VIS


Global Director Sustainable Sourcing Development Unilever

Jan Kees Vis was trained as a chemist. He joined Unilever in 1985, at the Unilever Research Laboratory in Vlaardingen. He held several positions there, and then moved to the foods business. For more than 10 years he worked on Environmental Life Cycle Analysis, implementation of Environmental Management Systems, environmental auditing, organizing environmental training courses, environmental reporting and preparation of policy proposals on environmental issues. Since beginning of 2001, he is the responsible for coordinating Unilever's Sustainable Agriculture programme.

ADAM HARRISON


Senior Policy Officer for Food & Agriculture World Wildlife Fund

Adam Harrison is the Senior Policy Officer for Food and Agriculture for WWF UK. Currently, based in Scotland, he has been working for WWF for the last 12 years on a range of rural, agriculture and food based policy areas. For the last 7 years, he has focussed on working with UK-based companies using palm oil and lobbying them to source these commodities sustainably. He has recently taken a lead in WWF on institutional support to the RSPO. Before working for WWF in the UK he was based overseas from the late 1980s working in natural resources management and development in Nepal, Cameroon and Namibia.

EDI SUHARDI

 

Edi Suhardi represents Indonesian Growers as the Director Sustainability of PT Agro Harapan Lestari (A Goodhope Company), a palm oil plantation group company in Indonesia. He joined the company in 2008. He chairs and coordinates the Indonesian Growers Caucus of RSPO member palm oil companies. He was trained in forestry and natural resource management and had been working in various organizations, i.e., social and environmental NGOs, private sector as well as public sector in the last 22 years. He is also Chairman of an Education Foundation and Board member in a number of organizations.

KHAIRUDIN HASHIM


Head of Group Sustainability and Quality Management, Sime Darby Berhad
 

Khairudin Hashim worked with R&D Center of Sime Darby Berhad as an agricultural scientist on oil palm, rubber, cocoa and fruits for 16 years. Subsequently he served as the Group Quality and Environment Manager for the next 9 years at Head Office. This was followed with a stint as the Head of Sime Darby Plantation R&D Center for 8 years prior to his appointment as Head of Group Sustainability and Quality Management beginning November 2011. His qualifications include a Bachelor in Agricultural Science, Masters in Agricultural Science (Plant Pathology) and Masters in Management (Total Quality Management).

DR SIMON LORD


Group Director for Sustainability for New Britain Palm Oil Ltd (NBPOL)
 

Simon has 25 years’ experience in the oil palm industry and has worked in S.E. Asia and the pacific. He started his career in research and as Head of Research for Dami Oil Palm Research Station led multi disciplined teams in Agronomy, Precision Agriculture, Biotechnology, Breeding and Environmental Science. He was one of the original 8 member Technical group that set the TOR for the RSPO multi-stakeholder model in 2002. He has since served the RSPO as an executive Board (EB) member and Vice President representing growers from the "Rest of the World" category. He has chaired the standards and certification subgroup of the EB and been an active member on the Criteria, Verification, Smallholder, GHG and Dispute Settlement Facility working groups. He has facilitated the National Interpretation of the RSPO standard in PNG and the Solomon Islands and served as technical advisor for these processes in Malaysia, Ghana and Thailand. He holds a degree in Crop protection and a Doctorate in Environmental Microbiology from Bath University. He is a Director of the NBPOL Foundation which seeks to improve the quality of life for communities in PNG.

TIM STEPHENSON


Director, Finance and Global Trading at AAK

Tim Stephenson is Director, Finance and Global Trading at AarhusKarlshamn AB ("AAK"), a major palm oil processor and trader with refineries in northern Europe and the Americas. As the leader in promoting sustainable palm oil, AAK is a founding member of the RSPO, and also the founder of GreenPalm, the RSPO certificate trading system. AAK is the first to import sustainable palm oil to Europe. Tim has represented AAK as an alternate or full member of the RSPO Executive Board since its inception. Prior to joining AAK in 1995, Tim had an international career with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Tim has an MA (Oxon) in Mathematics, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.

An experienced manager educated to post-graduate level, specialising in developing sustainable supply chains within complex fast moving FMCG environments. His areas of expertise lie in the fields of sustainable Supply Chains, Supply Chain Management and Strategy, Business Relationship Management, and Ethical Sourcing Producer development. Prior to joining Kraftfoods, Neil was at GREEN AND BLACK'S. He has extensive experience of managing various aspects of global supply chains; ranging from management of large agricultural plantations in Africa exporting to Europe and the Far East, management of procurement and logistics operations from South America, Europe and Australia for a UK fruit distributor to his current position as Head of Supply Chain for Green & Black’s.

BELINDA HOWELL


Retailers’ Palm Oil Group
 

Representative for the Retailers’ Palm Oil Group. The group’s members are: Aldi-Sued Group; Asda (part of Wal-Mart Stores); Boots UK; Coles Supermarkets; Coop Switzerland; Delhaize Group; Federation of Migros Cooperatives; J Sainsbury; Marks & Spencer; Royal Ahold; Tesco Stores; The Body Shop International; The Co-operative Group; and Waitrose. Belinda Howell has extensive experience in business on sustainability and climate change. She has worked in-house for Boots; as Director of Business in the Environment; and as European Director of Sustainable Solutions for URS Corporation. She was CEO of a carbon management company from start up and founded her own company, Decarbonize, to advise international companies on sustainability strategy and early stage cleantech on corporate development. She started her career as a research & product development biochemist for the Overseas Development Natural Resources Institute and for Biocompatibles. Belinda’s qualifications include a first class MBA and she is a member of Scottish Power's Environment Forum.

HIDDE-VAN KERSEN


Sustainability Director, IOI Loders Croklaan

Responsible for developing and executing CSR and sustainability policies, including RSPO certification of all IOI plantations. Prior to joining Loders Croklaan in March 2011, he was director of the Waddenvereniging (2005-2011), a Dutch based nature conservation NGO that focused on the protection of Europe's largest tidal wetlands, the WaddenSea. Before that, he worked as a corporate communications consultant and issues specialist with MS&L (1998-2005) in The Netherlands and as sustainability officer with Shell UK (1996-1998) in Scotland. Mr Van Kersen holds a master degree in Public Administration (Leiden, Netherlands), a MBA degree (Edinburgh, UK) and is an executive member of RSPO.

MOHD NOR KAILANY


Deputy Director General of Plantations for FELDA
 

Mohd Nor Kailany began his career in FELDA in 1975, and is now a well respected member of the FELDA and sustainable palm oil community. He also represents various groups and is an active member of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), President of Director, Koperasi Kakitangan Felda Berhad (FELKOP), Board of Director, Felda Farm Products Sdn Bhd, Board of Director, Ladang Tai Tak (Kota Tinggi) Sdn Bhd, Board of Director, Felda Global Venture (Perlis) Sdn Bhd, Board of Director, and Felda Plantations Sdn Bhd to name a few. He graduated from Universiti Pertainian Malaysia (UPM) and has two qualifications from the UPM, Diploma of Agriculture and a Bachelor of Science, in Agribusiness. Aside from this he also garnered a Diploma of Information Technology from INTAN.

GERALDINE LIM


Managing Director, Relationship Management of Rabobank International
 

Ms. Geraldine Lim is Managing Director, Relationship Management of Rabobank International and is based in Singapore. She is currently a Senior Relationship Banker where she manages relationships with the bank’s key clients within Rabobank’s wholesale client portfolio in South East Asia. In addition to her relationship management duties, Geraldine is the Regional Sector Head for the Grains & Oilseeds sector in Asia, where she is responsible for the overall strategy of the Grains & Oilseeds sector in Asia. She actively follows the developments of importance happening in the Grains & Oilseeds sector in Asia, working closely with the bank’s relevant product departments and Food & Agribusiness Research department and ensures that Rabobank’s knowledge is shared with various stakeholders and clients in the Grains & Oilseeds sector. Geraldine joined Rabobank in Singapore in 2010, having spent 11 years in ABN AMRO Bank/RBS Bank and 10 years with First National Bank of Boston in Singapore, where she managed relationship development with large corporates.

ONG ENG MUN


Area Director East Malaysia

Ong Eng Mun is the Area Director East Malaysia of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad. He assumed the role in March 2010 and currently oversees eight (8) HSBC branches in East Malaysia. Beside his focus on executing strategic initiatives to drive both the Retail Banking Wealth Management (RBWM) and Commercial Banking (CMB) business in East Malaysia, he also heads the Commercial Banking of the East Malaysia Region with major responsibilities in managing large and diversified business portfolio and client relationships. Mr Ong first joined HSBC Bank Malaysia in May 1982 as a Management Trainee. He went on to hold various managerial positions in several branches, Operations, Trade & Supply Chain (previously known as Trade Services) and Area Director for the Klang Valley region. In his last role as Head of Service Transformation, Mr Ong’s contribution was key in driving change management as well as increasing productivity and efficiency in work processes within the Bank. Mr Ong’s 29 years with the HSBC Group has equipped him with extensive knowledge and experience in the banking and financial industry.

JOHAN VERBURG


Coordinator Private Sector, Oxfam Novib

Johan Verburg is responsible for the corporate contacts that Oxfam Novib, the Dutch affiliate of the poverty alleviation confederation Oxfam, has with multinationals on issues such as sustainable value chains and responsible investments. He has a background in consultancy on management and sustainability in Southern Africa and the Netherlands. His role in the RSPO is to represent social/development NGOs in the multi-stakeholder Executive Board, in alliance with local and international NGOs and with an international Oxfam mandate; Johan believes that Oxfam's balanced negotiation and well-embedded brokering serve a long-run strategic approach to transform this international commodity sector, which deals with large-scale resource constraint challenges (i.e. deforestation, land grabbing).

ANDRE GUIMARAES


Mr. Guimarães graduated in agronomy from the University of Brasília (UnB) and has a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Cornell University (USA). He began his career at Imazon (Amazon Institute for Mankind and the Environment), where he served as senior researcher (1992-1993) and Executive Director (1994-1995), and is currently the vice-chairman of the board. More recently (2009-2011) he served as the CEO of Brazil Forests, a company focused on forest management aimed at the conservation and restoration of natural resources. Between 2002 and 2009, he was the executive director of the Instituto BioAtlântica (IBio), where he also coordinated the Sustainable Drainage Basins Program. He has also worked as project manager on the Pilot Program for the Protection of Brazil’s Tropical Forests (PPG7) and as an executive for the Prototype Carbon Fund (PCF), which are both World Bank posts. Mr. Guimarães has also been a director at A2R Fundos Ambientais, a venture capital firm, where he developed the Clean Tech Venture Capital Fund – CTF. He is currently the Executive Director of Conservation International, Brazil.

PAUL WOLVEKAMP


Paul Wolvekamp joined Both ENDS in 1989 and is currently its Deputy Director. He is vice-chairman of the Asia based NFTP (non-timber forest products) Exchange Program, member of the Dutch Advisory Commission on Sustainable Biomass. He served in various advisory capacities, e.g. on CIFOR’s certification research programme, and undertook assignments for private foundations, Dutch government and European Commission, including the development of an Indian-Dutch Environmental Fund, evaluating the European Commission’s contribution to dry land management and the 'Africa Regreening Initiative’. He initiated and moderated the RSPO Dispute Settlement Facility working group. Paul obtained his BA in law, MA political sciences and diploma in environmental sciences at Leyden University.
