She spent much of her time in Girls Aloud dressed in bright colours and sequins.

But Cheryl Cole proved that her own style is a lot more understated as she headed through LAX airport on Wednesday dressed from head-to-toe in black.

Looking like she'd embraced her inner goth, the 30-year-old matched a black leather jacket with slim-fit cigarette pants and pointed boots.

The star seemed relaxed as she made her way out of the Los Angeles airport following a long haul flight from London.

Instead of opting for comfort over style for the journey, Cheryl was clearly out to make an impression as she tried her hand at laid-back cool.

Not looking like she'd just spent 12 hours cramped on an airplane, the Parachute singer looked fresh-faced and her mane of dark hair was perfectly coiffed.

Her tight-fitting trousers, which had an elasticated leather waistband, were paired with a baggy black top, which seemed to be half tucked in and half tucked out.

She added her cropped leather jacket over the top and seemed comfortable in her metal-capped pointed ankle boots.

Seemingly like she was completely at ease, Cheryl thrust her hands in her pockets as she made her way through arrivals and out to her waiting car, while a member of staff pushed her baggage trolley.

Although Cheryl announced that she was taking a break from work back in March, she sparked speculation that she was recording again last month when she posted a picture of a recording studio.

And while rumours circulated that she might be about to join The Voice as a judge following the departure of some of the panel, it seems that she has recently been rules out.

According to The Sun, BBC producers decided that Cheryl was too closely affiliated with ITV's The X Factor, despite a pleas from her best pal Will.i.am.

'Cheryl has been very successful on music talent shows in the past. She is great with the contestants and really gives everything to them,' said the Black Eyed Peas frontman last month.
