Lindsay Lohan on 'Oprah's Next Chapter': Eight 'Really now?!' moments

The problem with interviewing an addict four days out of rehab is that s— really hasn’t had a chance to hit the fan yet. The problem with entertainment enabler Oprah Winfrey interviewing habitual screw-up Lindsay Lohan four days out of rehab is that the starlet has made a lifestyle out of ensuring that s— will hit the fan. Lohan admitted in her Oprah’s Next Chapter sit-down that she’s addicted to chaos: “There’s something to be said about me learning to be comfortable with things just being okay.”

Without a trace of cynicism or sarcasm, I really would like to see Lohan accept an “okay” life. But — as she’s shown through six rehab stints, one (reduced) jail sentence, and an overarching attitude of self-sabotage during the last six years — being an active member of recovery is a lot more difficult than reciting platitudes from Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions or kumbaya-ing over the Manhattan skyline. Alas, that’s exactly what Lohan did during her interview with Oprah. Why? Because she’s just not there yet. What she is — or claims to be — is “present.” Suffice it to say, this isn’t the first time the star has performed this very song and dance. The question is: Can someone like Lohan truly be “present” but also have perspective? She seems confident she can. Below, I list eight reasons I’m not placing any bets.

Shailene Woodley chops her hair for 'Fault in Our Stars' (and a good cause) -- PHOTO

Starting with her breakthrough role in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Shailene Woodley has been known for her long, brunet locks. For her Golden Globe-nominated performance in The Descendants, her flowing hair was nearly its own character, as she whipped it to and fro to drive home her teenage angst.

But for her upcoming lead role in the movie adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars, her mane had to go — and she made the most of the big change by donating her trademark tresses to the nonprofit Children With Hair Loss, which will create a wig for someone in need. Her new bob made its debut on Twitter, and though she looks a little apprehensive about the adjustment, calling it a “work in progress,” she also notes “#itgrowsback.”

Kristin Bauer van Straten takes EW's Pop Culture Personality Test

ew-personality-test-kristin-bauer-van-straten.jpg

True Blood wraps up its 6 (million?)th season this Sunday and while there will no doubt be some bloodshed, we’re hoping our favorite quip-queen Pam remains among the (sorta) living. Why? Because any character whose portrayer admits to being a loyal quoter of About a Boy is a friend of ours.

That’s right, the latter is among the admissions Kristin Bauer van Straten made when she stopped by EW HQ to take our Pop Culture Personality Test. She did pretty well, if you ask us. Now, if only Pam was as good at keeping Eric by her side as Kristin is at taking random quizzes, all would be well in the world!

Opinion: So, just how racist is Fox's 'Dads'?

Seth MacFarlane makes cartoons about dumb guys. That’s his job, and he’s done it so well with clueless buffoons like Peter Griffin that Family Guy has become one of the top-rated shows on Fox. So why is his latest pilot, Dads, which he created alongside fellow Family Guy producers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, inspiring so much outrage over its “racist” humor that one watchdog group is calling for Fox to reshoot the pilot?

Has it ever crossed your mind to take Kim Kardashian’s side in a celebrity feud? Thanks to an Instagram photo uploaded by Kardashian, it might.

Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley want you to turn off your phone at the movies -- VIDEO

You’re sitting in a dark movie theater, enjoying your time away from the real world with a popcorn that is definitely too large to be considered a small and a slushie that will give you several brain freezes but you order it anyway. And then it happens. A slight buzz. So you reach for your phone to check a clearly life-threatening text –

Don’t do it. According to actors Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley, “answering texts is a very serious choice” and you have to ask yourself “Am I being a d–k?” The two young hotshots are currently starring in the critically acclaimed The Spectacular Now and recently filmed a Don’t Talk PSA for the Alamo Drafthouse. Check out the funny spot below and don’t forget — don’t talk, or Miles Teller will ruin you:

Donald Glover short film is weird and thought-provoking

clapping-for-the-wrong-reasons.jpg

Is there anything Donald Glover can’t do?

The Community star, 30 Rock writer and Childish Gambino rapper (and, don’t forget, onetime Girls‘ boyfriend) tried his hand at writing a short film, Clapping For The Wrong Reasons, and the result is…. intriguing and disturbing? But in a good way.

It’s a day-in-the-life 25-minute exploration that Glover also stars in, and the quiet, somber tone is quite different than his role as Troy on Community. Directed by Hiro Murai, the film gets points for its extremely unexpected cast of characters, with everyone from Danielle Fishel (Yup, Topanga!) to Chance the Rapper and Trinidad Jame$ making an appearance.

Check it out  — and note the disturbing, bloody turn the movie takes at 17:50 — below: READ FULL STORY

Fall TV Wish List: Where should 'New Girl' go next?

Here at EW, Fall TV Wish List is a new weekly series in which our TV critics Melissa Maerz and Jeff Jensen weigh in on what they hope the coming season will bring for some of their favorite shows. This week: Fox’s New Girl, which premieres its third season on Sept. 17 at 9 p.m.

WHERE WE LEFT OFF
At the end of season 2, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) got their big, John Hughes-finale moment and made out in a parking lot to the strains of a dramatic love song; Cece (Hannah Simone) dumped Shivrang (Satya Bhabha) at the altar; Elizabeth (Merritt Wever) and Cece forced Schmidt (Max Greenfield) to choose between them; and poor, lonely Taylor Swift ran off with her sweet Shivvy so she’d never have to cry into her journal again.

WHAT WE LOVED ABOUT LAST SEASON
Melissa: So many things. Great physical comedy. One-liners that capture Schmidt’s “bromain” so well, you could screen-print them on a freshly ironed muscle tank top. (The best: “They make shoes for your penis. They’re called pants.”) The very funny “Virgins” episode, which added depth to characters that don’t normally get much screen time (Lamorne Morris’ Winston!) and finally — finally — gave us that elevator-door-jammingly urgent hook-up between Nick and Jess. Also: Nick’s tortured face when that random Asian man cuddles him. Elizabeth embarrassing Schmidt with her favorite kitten t-shirt. And all the other times that this self-aware show acknowledged that even fans of cuteness can only take so much of it before they cringe.
Jeff: What Melissa said. New Girl continued to be a welcome guest in the TV queue, thanks mostly to the comic chemistry and camaraderie of the cast. It feels like the actors can tackle anything the writers throw at them, from zombie Woody Allen impressions and to hallucinatory wrestling matches with invisible trolls. Episodes like “Halloween” and “Virgins” brilliantly synthesized slapstick, cracked-ribald laugh lines (“It was like a wind-sock on a windless day”), and character-driven storytelling. And the Jess-Nick hook-up was well-mounted (so to speak) and almost everything I hoped it would be (sorry). What Max Greenfield was to the show in season 1, Jake Johnson was to the show in season 2: an inspired breakout performance that deserved an Emmy nod. Robbed!

John Oliver bids farewell to 'Daily Show' hosting gig -- how'd he do? VIDEO

Can The Daily Show with Jon Stewart survive even without Jon Stewart?

After this summer’s Great Oliver Experiment, it’s safe to answer that question with a “yes.” Sure, it took a few weeks for John Oliver to get comfortable in the anchor’s chair. Once he did, though, the Brit proved that he’s got enough affable charm to ably fill Stewart’s formidable shoes — as well as a winning, self-deprecating attitude that automatically made viewers want to root for his success.

Throughout the summer, Oliver worked hard to keep reminding us that his hosting stint would only be temporary. (See, for example, the lies about Stewart’s whereabouts that opened every single Oliver episode; he never let the audience forget that he was just filling in for the show’s real host.) But if there’s any justice, Oliver won’t have to say a second stringer for long. Over the past three months, he demonstrated that he’s ready and able to carry his own show — or to take over for Stewart permanently if and when the longtime Daily Show host decides to step down from the perch he’s held for the past 14 years.

It helped, of course, that Oliver happened to luck into a summer filled with juicy stories including the search for Edward Snowden, Paula Deen’s racism snafu, and the United Kingdom’s royal baby. When you see each of them mentioned in quick succession, it’s kind of hard to believe that just three months could hold this much ridiculosity:
