Guide to Choosing Laptops & Notebooks
There are hundreds of laptop and notebook computers on the market, when debating which laptop to purchase, examine these key features:
Decide which features are most important to you, and then use our database to filter for computers with those features.
With 1,363 laptops & notebooks to choose from, we can help you find the best one for your needs.
- Laptop category: To get an idea of the type of notebook computer you need, determine how you will use the computer and for what tasks. Is this computer going to be used on the go, or will it primarily stay at home? The frequent traveler should look at thin and light models, while at-home users will get the best bang for their buck with a desktop replacement computer. Avid gamers should spring for gaming laptops, while all-purpose and even budget notebooks should suffice for the casual user.
- Display size: Laptop screen sizes vary from netbook-size 11” screens to desktop replacement 17” displays. If your work (or play) is graphics-heavy, a larger high-resolution display will be best for your games, movies and media. But for mobile users, a smaller screen size can mean better portability.
- Hard drive capacity: Consider how many gigabytes of files, photos, movies, music and other media you plan to store on your computer or download in the future. If you have a large media library or very intensive programs, make sure to buy a notebook with sufficient internal storage capacity.

What to Watch for in Laptops & Notebooks
• Avoid spending over $1000 dollars if you use your computer for the basics. If the majority of tasks and programs you run are simple, you do not need to spend the extra money for high performance features, such as a processor with over 3 GHz of speed.
• Internal storage should not be the biggest factor in your purchase. There are many external hard drive options available, as well as online data storage systems, that can be used to supplement internal storage.
