Panasonic CF-35

Panasonic CF-35

If you're watching your travel weight, you'll appreciate the slim build of the Panasonic CF-35, part of the new trend toward thinner and lighter notebooks. At a wispy 6.6 pounds, it's the lightest unit we saw in May by a pound. Its 1.5-inch thickness makes it thinner than standard 2-inch notebooks. To complete the travel package, the battery lasted for a very good 7.25 hours before calling it a night. You also get an extra-long power cord when you need to plug in. But if you're looking for the fastest possible processor in a travel notebook, the Panasonic is not for you. You can find more performance for the money in other notebooks on May's power chart. The CF-35 missed the chart also because Panasonic limits weekday technical support hours to 12 hours and offers no support on the weekend.

Lightweight, thin. No modem. $3159; 98 PC WorldBench 98 score, Pentium MMX-200, 32MB RAM, 256KB secondary cache, 3GB hard drive, 6X-11.5X CD-ROM drive, 12.1-inch active-matrix screen, 6.6-pound traveling weight, 7.25-hour battery life.Panasonic800/662-3537www.panasonic.com
