I haven’t shown you a craft for a long time. I actually removed crafts from my title as I am not doing them that often. Oh to find the time to do it all. Amber on the other hand is down in the craft room a lot. I recently bought her some oven bake clay and she transformed it into all sorts of food items. I thought I would share these with you today. They are so cute and amazing as they are so small.

Amber loves being down in the craft room with a friend or just by herself. She recently made all the Harry Potter figures out of clay too!

12 Days of Christmas-Christmas Ball Wreath

My lovely friend Nan gave me a gorgeous wreath of vintage Christmas balls. I love it so much and I am thrilled to see it come out every year at Christmas. This is a project that can take you a long time to hunt down vintage Christmas balls but if you are not in a hurry you can scout them out at garage sales or antique markets.

On the flip side you can get balls on sale very soon and build this wreath like the one I made. I went with a specific color scheme and collected them over a few years when I saw them on sale and the right color but you can find loads of them at any large retail store in abundant colors. Buy extra and keep them with the wreath so that it you have an accident it is a quick fix.

You will need:

A Vine Wreath
Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Various sized Christmas balls

Start to glue large balls onto the wreath filling in with smaller ones. Don’t forget to save a few for accidents over the years. Hang on a wreath hanger on a door that is not used very often or onto a wall.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece/Glittering Gourds

Here is an easy craft for you that you still have lots of time to create. I had been given by my friend Nan a glittering kit by Martha Stewart a couple of years back. I would unpack it at this time of year but with working, hosting Thanksgiving and getting ramped up for our big Halloween party sadly my glittering kit would get put back into my boxes and stored away for another year. When I pulled it out this year I said I am going to use this and glitter some gourds. It is an easy quick craft that your children can help you with. Amber did half of these.

You don’t need the fancy kit to do glittering, you can purchase the glue and glitter at any craft store. It is a thick pasty glue that comes with a brush that you simply brush on thinly and sprinkle the glitter on and shake to remove the excess. Do the gourd in sections letting it dry between applications so it is easily handled. All the rest I had around the house. The candles, leaves, pears and tray are all just pulled together. Get creative and come up with one of your own for your Thanksgiving table.

Duct Tape Slippers

I am going to try hard to bring a craft onto the blog at least once a month. Amber is constantly crafting and making things and I will share her little projects with you.

When I came back from Las Vegas a few months ago I found these slippers in Amber’s room. She had been making them while I was gone. I thought they were so cute. She does things with no guidance, making crafts on her own. She saw a friend at school had made some so off she went to make some for herself. Here is a step by step guide to what she did.
Take a plastic Ziplock bag and cut it in half.
Slice the bottom of the bag open.
Line the bag with duct tape
Fold the back up onto your heel.
Now fold the back into your foot.
Fold the sides towards the center of your foot.
Overlap the two sides.
Tape under the foot making it as tight or as loose as you like.
Fold the top over or trim if too long.
Tape the top down.
Continue taping entire shoe.
When completely taped cut a “v” to let your foot out.
Create your own designs.
Mismatch colors.
Make them your own.

Terrarium

I love to watch The Chew everyday and I am totally smitten with Michael Symon. I always have it PVR’d, so not to miss an episode. Ken has to endure listening to me go on and on about Michael. For the most part I don’t think he really minds as they have some great ideas and delicious food. Amber pops in once in a while and watches to. What she does like is Clinton’s Craft Corner (you have to sing it and do jazz hands). Anyway one day she say the bunch of them making little terrariums and she really wanted to make one. I had bought the jars that you see below in a case to make pickles in and they have become very handy for so many things. They are a nice big size for poppycock or cookie mix or a terrarium. First you start off with some rocks, nice ones if you have them. Then Clinton suggested charcoal if you are going to seal the jar to keep mold away. Then a nice layer of potting soil and the plant of your choosing. Amber thought the hens and chicks were cool so we went with them. They may not be the best choice as they don’t like it too moist so we are keeping the lid off for most of the time. If you go to your local greenhouse I am sure they can suggest a bunch of plants that would work well in a terrarium setting. This is a fun and easy craft for kids to do and then they can watch it grow and maintain it. Try this one today!!
