Jim Houfek

Jim was named to his current position in 1998. He joined OCLC in 1993 as Senior Attorney and became Director of Legal Affairs and General Counsel in 1997. Prior to joining OCLC, he was Vice President and General Counsel for the Newtowne Companies from 1990 to 1993. He was Chairman and General Counsel for the Oakhurst Company from 1983 to 1990. Prior to this, Jim was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio, as well as a partner in the law firm of Bailey, Houfek & Hoover in Worthington, Ohio, where he was engaged in the general practice of law.

Jim has served as a board member of the Godman Guild Association, a nonprofit social services agency that promotes strong families and strong communities through youth services and employment training. He also has been a board member of the South Side Settlement House, which provides a range of social services for children, youth and adults, including after-school programs, summer camps, preschool and day care for 3–5 year olds, and job-search and employment assistance.

A practicing attorney since 1969, Jim received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, and a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University.
