Armstrong Cemetery

Milton Twp.
Sec. 7 Twp. 3N Range 12E

by Bob Scott

Capt. John Armstrong contributed the money for the founding of nearby Armstrong Chapel, a Methodist Church that was founded between 1832 and 1843. Land for the church was deeded to trustees in Section 7 in 1848. When a shift in the Ohio River made the church inaccessible, it was abandoned, and Morris Chapel was founded either in 1856 or 1859. Armstrong was a trustee there. His title is apparently from his role as a river-boat captain. This is apparently the cemetery shown on the Jefferson County road map as being at the end of Scott Road, upstream from Brooksburg, and just east of where Lost Fork enters the Ohio River.
