Cops Hunt Second Man Believed to Be Involved in Congresswoman Giffords Shooting

Police suspect a second gunman due to the spread of the firing on the ground and the number of victims.

Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Rich Kastigar told reporters that a rifle with an extended magazine was found at the scene of the shooting spree.

Cops Hunt Second Man Believed to Be Involved in Congresswoman Giffords Shooting


"We are not convinced that [the gunman in custody] acted alone, there is some reason to believe he came to this location with another individual, and that individual is involved," Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said.

Dupnik declined to provide more information on the second individual who he would only describe as "white" and "in his 50s." Authorities have photographs of the person of interest and are "actively pursuing him," the sheriff said.

US gunman may not have acted alone

The Arizona sheriff helping investigate the shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and others says the gunman may not have acted alone.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said at a news conference in Tucson on Saturday that authorities may have a photo of another suspect.

Dupnik says officials believe a suspect in custody may have come to the grocery store parking lot with another person, and that person was in some way involved.

Dupnik would offer no other information.

A discontented 22-year old US Army soldier on duty in Baghdad, Bradley Manning, a low-grade US Army intelligence analyst, described as a loner, a gay in the military, a disgruntled “computer geek,” sifts through classified information at Forward Operating Base Hammer. He decides to secretly download US State Department email communications from the entire world over a period of eight months for hours a day, onto his blank CDs while pretending to be listening to Lady Gaga. In addition to diplomatic cables, Manning is believed to have provided WikiLeaks with helicopter gun camera video of an errant US attack in Baghdad on unarmed journalists, and with war logs from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jared Loughner is in custody after a shooting in Tucson today that killed 4 thus far [Ed. note: 5 or 6 now depending on the news conference by the Sheriff] including a small child and a Federal judge.  Seriously wounded is a member of congress, Gabrielle Giffords, who is expected to survive.

News reports from Fox and other networks that Loughner is a US Army combat veteran of the war in Afghanistan are false.  That such information, easily verified in seconds, was released to the world, was extremely irresponsible and highly prejudicial to veterans.  Veterans Today finds this type of journalism despicable.

The weapon, reportedly a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an extended “hi-capacity” magazine was recovered at the scene.  Thus far 18 are reported wounded or dead.

News reports that say Loughner is a military veteran are false.  By his own admission, he was in recruit processing in Phoenix, part of a controversial program meant to bring substandard inductees into the military.
