It's hard to imagine how Victoria Beckham could cycle in her trademark high heels.

And sadly fans won't get the chance to find out - after thieves stole her bicycle from a New York sidewalk.

The pop star turned fashion designer tweeted a picture of her abandoned wheel, with a lock ineffectually securing it to a lamppost.

'So I won't be riding home tonight then!' she tweeted.

Posh and bike-less! Victoria Beckham tweeted a picture of her wheel after a thief took her bike in New York on Wednesday, writing 'So I won't be riding home tonight then!'

A follow up post she showed the police response to the theft with a small NYPD response vehicle at the scene.

'Searching for the missing bike!' Victoria wrote.

While it may be hard to imagine Posh Spice astride a bicycle, it would certainly be a sensible way to nip between shows during New York Fashion Week.

With fashion lovers darting around traffic-clogged Manhattan it can be hard to make it to the front row on time - giving cyclists a distinct advantage.

It's long gone! Victoria posted a photo of the police response to her call about the theft, writing 'Searching for the missing bike!'

After finding fame with the Spice Girls the 39-year-old mother-of-four turned her talents to designing, showing her first collection at NYFW back in 2008.

Since then she has found wide recognition as a designer, and is in town to show her newest collection.

According to the Daily Star, Beckham is even a 'front-runner' to design the costumes for Universal Pictures adaptation of E.L. James' racy novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

While Victoria and her daughter Harper, two, are in New York, her husband David and their sons have remained in Britain.

It's NOT her bike people!! She was joking! She has chauffeur driven limos, she doesn't bike! No one with a will to live would bike in NYC.

I bet she has never ridden a bike in her life - not like her husband.

if anyone really believes that was her bike you have got to be kidding me ? If that was her bike she would have had a security guard stand there and watch the bike or something close to this. NO WAY , she just happens to snap a pix of a bike tire chained to a bike rack and thats it ...

You know that sound "whoosh" when a joke goes right over your head? Come on now. I really thought DM readers as a whole were smarter than this... obviously not the columnists who wouldn't know a joke if it hit them in the face... but the readers. SHE IS JOKING YOU FOOLS!!!

Bikes get stolen all the time in NY. Her's was probably worth thousands of dollars and she was stupid to leave it on the streets in NY. It was probably gone as soon as she turned her back.
